Kinaxis and Ottawa Senators Renew Partnership, Uniting National Capital Region
OTTAWA, Ontario--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Kinaxis® (TSX:KXS), a global leader in end-to-end supply chain orchestration, is proud to announce a renewed three-year partnership with the Ottawa Senators and their AHL affiliate, the Belleville Senators. This collaboration is designed to amplify Kinaxis' brand visibility, deepen community roots, and create unforgettable experiences for customers, prospects, and employees.
'At Kinaxis, we believe in the power of community and the importance of showing up where it matters most,' said Megan Paterson, chief operating officer at Kinaxis.
As two proud Ottawa-based organizations, Kinaxis and the Senators will come together again to celebrate local talent, foster youth development, and drive meaningful community engagement. The partnership will also spotlight the Kinaxis brand across high-visibility platforms—including center ice at Canadian Tire Centre, LED rings, and digital dashboards during home and away games—ensuring a powerful presence throughout the NHL season.
'At Kinaxis, we believe in the power of community and the importance of showing up where it matters most,' said Megan Paterson, chief operating officer at Kinaxis. 'This partnership is more than just branding - it's about connecting with people, supporting local causes, and creating a culture of pride and purpose for our employees, our customers, and the broader Ottawa community.'
As part of its commitment to community impact, Kinaxis will support two of the Senators' most meaningful philanthropic initiatives:
Together We Ignite Hope Telethon – A region-wide fundraising campaign that supports youth-focused charities and grassroots programs across the National Capital Region. Funds raised go toward mental health services, education access, food security, and recreational opportunities for underserved youth.
Ottawa Senators Gala – The team's premier annual fundraising event, bringing together business and community leaders to raise funds for youth empowerment through sport, education, and wellness. Kinaxis' involvement helps expand the reach and impact of these programs, ensuring more young people have access to the tools and support they need to thrive.
These initiatives align with Kinaxis' broader social impact strategy, which includes long-standing partnerships with organizations such as Interval House of Ottawa (supporting women and children fleeing violence), Quickstart Early Intervention for Autism, and The Ellen MacArthur Foundation (advancing circular economy education). Kinaxis also invests in the next generation of talent through its award-winning co-op program and has been recognized as one of Canada's Top 100 Employers and a Top Employer for Young People.
The renewed partnership also brings employees, customers, and prospects closer to the action, with exclusive access to Senators games, community skate events at Canadian Tire Centre, and behind-the-scenes experiences that foster lasting connections within the community.
'This collaboration is a celebration of shared values—excellence, innovation, and community,' said Cyril Leeder, president and CEO of the Ottawa Senators. 'Fresh off a playoff run that ignited our fans and our community, we're excited to have Kinaxis – a leader in Ottawa's tech community – in our Senators family to further the momentum from last season and look forward to continuing to build something truly special together.'
As Kinaxis continues to grow its global footprint, this partnership reinforces its identity as a purpose-driven brand rooted in community, innovation, and Canadian pride. For more information about Kinaxis visit kinaxis.com.

Nike profits sink but company says it is turning a corner
Nike reported sharply lower quarterly profits Thursday, but signaled it was past the worst stage of a corporate retooling as it implements "surgical" US price increases to defray tariff costs. The Oregon-based sportswear company, beset with oversupply of merchandise that fell flat with consumers, reported profits of $211 million in its fiscal fourth quarter, down 86 percent from the year-ago period. Revenues fell 12 percent to $11.1 billion, with the steepest declines in Nike's Greater China region. The company had previously telegraphed that Thursday's results would be poor as it implements the "Win Now" initiative to revamp the organization, promote innovation and improve relations with wholesalers. "The fourth quarter reflected the largest financial impact from our Win Now actions, and we expect the headwinds to moderate from here," said Chief Financial Officer Matthew Friend. Friend estimated a gross impact of $1 billion in costs from the US tariffs in place right now. The company aims to lower its share of footwear imported from China to the United States to nine percent from the current 16 percent by the end of its fiscal 2026, Friend said. Nike has also begun "a surgical price increase" in the United States, with "phased implementation" beginning in the fall, said Friend, who added that the company is working with retail and suppliers to minimize the impact on consumers. The comments elaborated on Nike's May 21 announcement of the price increase due to tariffs. The biggest hit to earnings from tariffs will be in the upcoming quarter, the first of Nike's fiscal 2026, Friend said. "We're confident in our ability to fully mitigate these over time," he said. Chief Executive Elliott Hill said recent collaborations with wholesalers Dick's Sporting Goods and JD Sports had resulted in improved sales. "Momentum and confidence are building in North America and EMEA (Europe Middle East Africa)," said Hill, who described progress in some other countries as slower. "China will take longer," he said. Shares of Nike rose 4.7 percent in after-hours trading. jmb/ksb/dw Error in retrieving data Sign in to access your portfolio Error in retrieving data Error in retrieving data Error in retrieving data Error in retrieving data

City leaders offer condolences following Fred Smith's death
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Community leaders, lawmakers and organizations are reacting after Memphis-based FedEx Founder, Fred Smith, passed away. The 80-year-old founded Federal Express in the 1970s, making it a global shipping giant. 'He was genuinely a good guy and had a big impact on Memphis, a big impact on me,' Fred Jones Jr. said. Jones, who leads the Southern Heritage Classic, said the impact Fred Smith had on Memphis will continue for generations. He said while the shipping giant helped put Memphis on the world stage, Jones remembers Smith as a humble man, citing the moment he was able to secure Smith as a guest speaker back in the early 2000s. FedEx founder Fred Smith dies, sources confirm 'We had a long conversation about what he was going to talk about, and for somebody who had that kind of influence when he came to the event – he was just a regular guy,' Jones said. Smith was a student at Yale back in the 1960s when he wrote a term paper calling for a better way to ship time-sensitive material. After serving two tours of duty in Vietnam, the Marine Corps veteran would go on to start Federal Express, which launched its operation here in the Bluff City back in 1973. 'Trade is what's made America great over the years. About 27 percent of our entire economy is related to trade, either imports or exports,' Smith said back in 2017. 'The average American family benefits to the tune of about $13,000 in lower-priced goods than would otherwise be the case.' After the news of Smith's passing, several state lawmakers took to social media to offer their condolences. Congressman Steve Cohen said in a post on X, 'Memphis has lost its most important citizen.' 'Toxic Tour' highlights efforts to clean polluted areas in North Memphis Across the aisle, Senator Marsha Blackburn said in part, 'As the founder of FedEx, his leadership and innovation transformed global commerce, and he will be remembered for his relentless drive, patriotism, and commitment to service. His legacy will endure not only through the company he built but through the countless lives he touched.' Outside of giving back, Smith has had an influence in other organizations like the Memphis Zoo, which said Smith helped with expanding exhibits and 'championed animal care, education and community connection.' The University of Memphis also reacted, praising Smith for his work in higher education. Its statement reads in part, 'Through the learning inspired by [the] FedEx [life] program, Fred Smith gave his employees the opportunity to acquire college degrees at the UofM.' Fred Jones said that Smith's story is a great inspiration for younger generations. 'My advice to young people is that you have these ideas, but you stay with it,' Jones said. 'Work with it because you never know the impact it's going to have.' Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Netflix taps Airbnb CFO Mertz for board
This story was originally published on CFO Dive. To receive daily news and insights, subscribe to our free daily CFO Dive newsletter. Netflix has appointed Airbnb CFO Ellie Mertz to serve on its board of directors, the streaming giant said Tuesday. 'Ellie's tenure at Airbnb, combined with her deep understanding of Netflix, makes her uniquely positioned to contribute to our strategic vision,' Netflix co-CEOs Ted Sarandos and Greg Peters, said in a press release. 'Her experience as a public company finance professional and leader will be invaluable as we accelerate innovation and continue to entertain the world.' Mertz previously served in various finance roles at Netflix from 2006 to 2013. She currently serves on the boards of DoorDash and Faire Wholesale. The news comes amid a broader leadership shakeup at the Los Gatos, California-based streaming company. Netflix announced in January 2023 that its founder, Reed Hastings, was stepping down as co-CEO and would serve as executive chairman instead. Peters was promoted from chief operating officer to become a co-CEO with Sarandos. 'Our board has been discussing succession planning for many years (even founders need to evolve!),' Hastings said in a statement at the time. About two months ago, Hastings pulled back further from his Netflix role, transitioning to non-executive chairman of the board. At the time, the company said the change was 'part of the natural evolution of our leadership structure and succession planning.' Mertz was appointed to the Netflix board on June 22 effective immediately for a term expiring at the company's 2026 annual meeting of stockholders, 'or until her earlier resignation or removal,' according to a Tuesday securities filing. Like other non-employee directors, she will receive stock options pursuant to the company's director equity compensation plan, the filing said. Mertz has spent the past 12 years at Airbnb, according to her LinkedIn page. She became CFO in March 2024 after serving as vice president of finance and head of global financial planning and analysis. Prior to joining Airbnb, she spent seven years at Netflix, serving in various finance roles, including vice president of finance.
