Umno must regain dominance in next GE
BAGAN DATUK: Umno must regain its dominance by securing the highest number of parliamentary seats among all political parties in the next general election, said president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
The Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman said there are clear signs the party can achieve this goal, as shown by its candidates' victories in a string of recent by-elections.
The most recent example was Umno's win in the Ayer Kuning state by-election, said the Bagan Datuk MP.
"… and we have celebrated the victories of our friends who stood as candidates in these by-elections," he said at the 2025 Bagan Datuk Umno Branches Conference at the Umno Complex in Sungai Sumun near here today.
The event was launched by Datuk Megat Zulkarnain Omardin, political secretary to the Deputy Prime Minister.

Zahid: Don't use Malay unity as political gimmick
The Malay unity agenda should not be used as a political gimmick, especially after experiencing election failure, said Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. GRS leader says Bung's call for contest with BN ‘should be honoured'
GRS leader Armizan Mohd Ali (left) said he personally supports Bung Moktar Radin's proposal that discussions on cooperation should wait until after the state election. PETALING JAYA : Gabungan Rakyat Sabah deputy secretary-general Armizan Mohd Ali has backed Sabah Umno chief Bung Moktar Radin's call for GRS to face off against Barisan Nasional in the upcoming Sabah state election. Armizan said Bung's wish for GRS-BN cooperation to be considered only after the state election was 'reasonable' and should be honoured. 'Only by going head-to-head can we put to rest the issue of who betrayed whom and who actually commands support,' he said in a statement today. 'There'll be no more accusations that a candidate from Party A only won because of Party B's backing, and vice versa.' Armizan, who is also the domestic trade and cost of living minister, said this was his personal view and not an official GRS position. He was responding to Bung's remarks on June 3 that discussions on electoral cooperation should wait until after the state election. Armizan said GRS, in principle, remains open to working with Pakatan Harapan, its current partner in the Sabah government. He also credited PH for prioritising political stability by rejecting the 'Kinabalu Move' and choosing to support Hajiji Noor to remain as chief minister. 'I believe the current state government is functioning well under the existing cooperation. Based on the voices and sentiments of GRS grassroots leaders and supporters, they seem keen to face BN directly,' he said. Armizan also said the formation of the federal unity government should not be seen as a barrier to state-level contests.
