Taarek Refaat
The General Authority of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) began high-level discussions with Abu Dhabi Ports Group, aiming to support global supply chains and localize industry in the region, in a strategic move to enhance regional logistics integration and expand cooperation in the ports and digital services sector.
This came during the second day of the SCZone's delegation official visit to the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi.
Walid Gamal El Din, Chairman of the SCZone met with Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi, CEO of Abu Dhabi Ports Group to discuss opportunities for joint cooperation and exchange of expertise.
During the meeting, both sides emphasized the importance of integration between two of the region's most prominent economic entities, in light of the strategic directions of both Egypt and the UAE to enhance regional economic cooperation, particularly in the areas of port development, transportation technology, and digital services.
Abu Dhabi Ports officials reviewed the group's key activities, which span five key sectors: digital services, economic cities and free zones, logistics, shipping and maritime services, and port management. The group currently operates approximately 10 marine terminals, and its free zones cover an area exceeding 550 km², serving more than 1,500 local and international customers.
Following the meeting, the delegation toured the group's digital services complex and visited the headquarters of Maqta Technologies, the group's technology arm. They were briefed on the latest digital transformation solutions implemented in the ports and logistics sectors, including the one-stop shop system, the smart port management platform, the transport control system, and customs automation and risk monitoring systems.
Gamal El Din emphasized the Authority's commitment to deepening its strategic partnership with Abu Dhabi Ports Group, particularly in the Sokhna and East Port Said port projects, as well as the Authority's industrial zone. He noted that the Authority seeks to localize industry and enhance its role in global supply chains, particularly in light of the current geopolitical challenges impacting international trade.
On his part, Al Shamsi welcomed the expansion of cooperation with the Suez Canal Economic Zone, highlighting the group's successes in various business sectors. He emphasized that cooperation between the two parties will contribute to achieving mutual benefits across the region.
He also noted that the group recently received an A1 credit rating from Moody's with a stable outlook, reflecting the strength of its financial performance and its ability to expand sustainably.

Gold Prices Steady Locally Amid Anticipation of U.S. Inflation Data and U.S.-China Trade Talks
Waleed Farouk Gold prices in the local market remained relatively stable during Tuesday's trading session, coinciding with a slight increase in global spot prices, as markets closely monitor upcoming U.S. inflation data and developments in trade negotiations between the United States and China. The price of 21-karat gold held steady at EGP 4,670 per gram, showing little change from Monday's closing, while the global ounce price rose by $12 to reach $3,339. The 24-karat gold was recorded at EGP 5,337 per gram, while 18-karat gold stood at EGP 4,003. The 14-karat gold price reached EGP 3,114 per gram, and the gold pound was priced at EGP 37,360. Gold prices in local markets had increased by EGP 10 during Monday's trading, as the 21-karat gram opened at EGP 4,660, climbed to a peak of EGP 4,780, and closed at EGP 4,670. Globally, the ounce rose by $17, opening at $3,310 and ending the session at $3,327. Monday's trading witnessed notable volatility, with the 21-karat gram jumping from EGP 4,660 to EGP 4,780 before retreating to EGP 4,670. The global ounce saw an upward move from $3,310 to $3,327, marking a $17 increase. These limited price movements come amid heightened anticipation ahead of the U.S. Consumer Price Index (CPI) report, scheduled for release on Wednesday. The CPI is one of the key indicators used by the Federal Reserve to guide its monetary policy, with the next Fed meeting set for June 17–18. Higher-than-expected inflation could reduce the likelihood of interest rate cuts, putting pressure on gold prices. Conversely, a weaker CPI reading may support gold as a hedge against potential monetary easing. Analysts expect the Federal Reserve to keep interest rates unchanged at its upcoming meeting. However, current economic indicators suggest a potential 50 basis point rate cut by the end of the year. Meanwhile, the report highlighted that U.S.-China trade talks are continuing for a second day in London, in an effort to ease tensions that began with reciprocal tariffs and have since expanded to include restrictions on rare earth exports. The two countries had imposed tariffs on each other in April, before agreeing to a temporary truce in May, which helped calm global market concerns. Expectations indicate that these negotiations may have a direct impact on gold and dollar movements in the coming days, as investors evaluate the prospects of reaching agreements that could improve the investment climate and ease inflationary pressures. read more CBE: Deposits in Local Currency Hit EGP 5.25 Trillion Morocco Plans to Spend $1 Billion to Mitigate Drought Effect Gov't Approves Final Version of State Ownership Policy Document Egypt's Economy Expected to Grow 5% by the end of 2022/23- Minister Qatar Agrees to Supply Germany with LNG for 15 Years Business Oil Prices Descend amid Anticipation of Additional US Strategic Petroleum Reserves Business Suez Canal Records $704 Million, Historically Highest Monthly Revenue Business Egypt's Stock Exchange Earns EGP 4.9 Billion on Tuesday Business Wheat delivery season commences on April 15 News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt News Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly Inaugurates Two Indian Companies Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream Technology 50-Year Soviet Spacecraft 'Kosmos 482' Crashes into Indian Ocean

Ain Sokhna Port welcomes AROYA cruise ship with over 2,300 tourists
The Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) announced on Monday that Ain Sokhna Port has received the AROYA cruise ship, arriving from Safaga. The vessel docked at 8:00 AM, carrying 2,351 tourists of various nationalities, along with a crew of 1,500. Sailing under the Maltese flag, the AROYA measures 303 meters in length with a draft of 8.5 meters. It is scheduled to depart on Tuesday, 10 June, bound for Jeddah. The ship's arrival supports SCZONE's ongoing strategy to position its ports as a regional hub for tourism, maritime services, and logistics. This strategy leverages the zone's unique geographic location along the Red Sea and Mediterranean, coupled with continuous infrastructure enhancements aimed at boosting operational efficiency and global competitiveness. The timing of the AROYA's reception during the Eid Al-Adha holiday highlights the port's readiness and capacity to operate efficiently during peak travel seasons and public holidays. The cruise's arrival also aligns with Egypt's broader national efforts to revitalize marine tourism. The government has launched a comprehensive strategy to establish the country as a key destination for cruise and yacht travel, including major upgrades to port facilities in Ain Sokhna, Hurghada, and Sharm El-Sheikh. Key initiatives include the development of modern marinas, the implementation of a unified digital platform to streamline yacht entry procedures, and international partnerships—such as with AD Ports Group—to manage and develop cruise terminals. These efforts form part of Egypt's long-term vision to integrate marine tourism into the national economy and promote sustainable growth within the blue economy.
