Police detain Proton X50 driver for using motorcycle lane on Penang bridge
NIBONG TEBAL, June 22 — Police have detained an elderly woman for driving a car in the motorcycle lane on the Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah Bridge (JSAHMS) here yesterday.
Seberang Perai Selatan (SPS) Police Chief Supt Jay January Siowou said preliminary police investigations found that the incident occurred at Kilometre 8.6 of JSAHMS from Batu Kawan heading towards Batu Maung, at around 1.30pm.
'Acting on information, the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division of the SPS District Police Headquarters (IPD) managed to identify the 70-year-old female driver and brought her to the SPS IPD for further action.
'The police have also opened an investigation paper for driving in a prohibited lane, and further investigation is underway,' he said in a statement today.
Members of the public with additional information on the incident are urged to contact the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division of the SPS IPD at 04-5858222 to assist with the investigation.
Earlier, a six-second video went viral on social media showing the woman driving a Proton X50 in the motorcycle lane on the bridge. — Bernama

KOTA BARU, June 22 — The Sessions Court here today sentenced four traditional medicine practitioners to three years in prison after finding them guilty of assaulting a lecturer and causing permanent blindness in his left eye four years ago. Judge Mohd Zul Zaqikudin Zulkifli delivered the verdict after the prosecution successfully proved their case beyond reasonable doubt against Mohd Shamsul Izwan Midin, 37, known as 'Wae Selamos'; Muhammad Firdaus Mohd Adnan, 37, known as Tok Singa; Idrees Ishak, 46; and Mohd Eric Mohd Ramli, 39, at the end of the trial. The four men were charged under Section 325 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same code, with intentionally inflicted severe injuries that led to the permanent loss of vision in the left eye of the victim, Ahmad Shahrill 'Ariff Zainol, 43, at 4 am, Aug 5, 2021, at a homestay on Jalan Sultan Yahya Petra. The judge allowed a request from lawyer Mohd Azrul Hasyimi, who represented all four men, to stay the sentence pending the outcome of their appeal. Man caught at KLIA trying to smuggle four gibbons to India
PUTRAJAYA, June 22 — A local man was detained at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 for attempting to smuggle four exotic animals, believed to be black-handed gibbons worth around RM30,000. The Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) said in a statement today that the animals were found inside the 34-year-old suspect's luggage. He was a passenger on a Batik Air flight bound for Mumbai, India, scheduled to depart Friday night. 'The suspect was detained on the spot and taken to the Aeropolis police headquarters for further action,' the statement said. AKPS said the gibbons have been handed over to the Department of Wildlife and National Parks of Peninsular Malaysia (Perhilitan) for investigation and further action. The case is being investigated under the Wildlife Conservation Act 2010 and the International Trade in Endangered Species Act 2008. The arrest was part of enhanced integrated checks launched this month in collaboration with Aviation Security (AVSEC) and Perhilitan, targeting wildlife smuggling through high-risk aviation entry points.
