NIA questions Kolkata travel agency owner in Pakistan espionage probe
Sleuths of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday questioned the owner of a Kolkata-based travel agency in connection with a Pakistan espionage case, an official said.
Mohammed Masood Alam, owner of the travel agency, was questioned by the NIA about some suspicious money transactions made through his office on three occasions, he said.
The central agency on Saturday conducted searches at the travel agency's office in Kidderpore area, apart from a hotel in Park Circus and a shop in the Alipore area of the city.
"He was questioned regarding the three transactions made through his agency, especially the one made on April 3, 2024. His statements were recorded," he added.
The NIA sleuths conducted the searches in connection with the arrest of CRPF personnel Moti Ram Jat in Delhi for his alleged links in leaking of classified information to Pakistani intelligence operatives in lieu of money, he said.
"These raids were linked to the espionage case. We had seized a few documents during the searches. We had summoned the owner of the travel agency for questioning on Monday," the officer said.
The travel agency was used for some money transactions. There were at least three transactions made via this travel agency, he said.
Apart from Kolkata, the NIA conducted search operations in Delhi, Haryana, UP, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, and Assam in connection with the case.

Chargesheet filed against Boby Chemmanur for obscene remarks on actor
Kochi: Kochi city police filed a chargesheet against Thrissur-based businessman Boby Chemmanur for allegedly making sexually coloured and derogatory remarks against a prominent actor on social media. The chargesheet was submitted to the Ernakulam magistrate court on Wednesday, following an extensive investigation. According to the chargesheet, Chemmanur made the remarks with the intent to humiliate the actor. Police said they collected evidence of him making offensive comments against several individuals online. The chargesheet includes video clips from interviews and the confidential statement provided by the actor. Chemmanur is expected to be produced before the court in the coming days. Meanwhile, police are investigating a separate complaint filed by the actor against 30 other individuals who allegedly posted sexually explicit and abusive comments on her social media posts. The case against Chemmanur was initially registered at the Ernakulam central police station on Jan 7 after the actor submitted a formal complaint. She alleged that Chemmanur made obscene remarks against her on social media platforms and humiliated her in public during the inauguration of a jewellery showroom. Acting swiftly, the police arrested the 62-year-old businessman from a resort in Wayanad within 24 hours of the complaint. He was charged under non-bailable offences, including Section 75(4) of the BNS, which pertains to making sexually coloured remarks as a form of sexual harassment and Section 67 of the Information Technology Act, which prohibits publishing or transmitting obscene material electronically. Chemmanur, known for being the director of Chemmanur International Jewellers and founder of Life Vision Charitable Trust, rose to fame in 2012 after signing football legend Diego Maradona as brand ambassador and bringing him to Kannur.

Who Is Jasbir Singh, YouTuber Arrested In Punjab For Spying For Pakistan
The Punjab Police have arrested YouTuber Jasbir Singh for his alleged involvement in a Pakistan-backed espionage network. Mr Singh, who runs the popular YouTube channel JaanMahal Video, was picked up by the State Special Operations Cell (SSOC) in Mohali on Wednesday following intelligence inputs. According to the police, Mr Singh was in direct contact with a Pakistani intelligence officer identified as Shakir, alias Jutt Randhawa, who is believed to be part of a terror-linked spy network operated by Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). Investigators said Mr Singh passed on sensitive information about Indian security force movements. Who Is Jasbir Singh? Jasbir Singh is a 41-year-old YouTuber from Mahlan village in Ropar district, Punjab. He currently lives in Rupnagar, Punjab. His Facebook picture contains the tag, "I support farmers." He runs a popular YouTube channel called JaanMahal Video, which has over 1.1 million subscribers. His content mainly includes travel videos documenting his trips to countries like Malaysia, Maldives, Thailand and others. On Instagram, Jasbir Singh has close to 42,000 followers. His Instagram bio describes him as a food vlogger. His last Instagram post, uploaded two days ago, featured a video of his son celebrating Punjab Kings' win over Mumbai Indians in the IPL semi final. A cricket enthusiast, Mr Singh frequently attends matches at stadiums and appears to be involved with his local cricket club, as seen in several of his Instagram videos. Why Was Jasbir Singh Arrested? Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav confirmed that Mr Singh maintained ties with Jyoti Malhotra, a Haryana-based YouTuber, who was arrested on May 15 in a similar espionage case. Investigators accused Ms Malhotra of spying for Pakistan and reported her links to the same network. According to Punjab Police, Jasbir Singh visited Pakistan three times, around the same time Jyoti Malhotra travelled there. Mr Singh was arrested in Rupnagar, and forensic teams are currently examining multiple Pakistani phone numbers found on his devices. Authorities also revealed that Mr Singh attended the Pakistan National Day event at the Pakistani Embassy in Delhi, where Pakistan High Commission official Ehsan-ur-Rahim, alias Danish, invited him. Indian authorities later expelled Danish from the country.
