Apple Test-Drives Big-Screen Movie Strategy With F1

Forty-eight hours before Formula One's Grand Prix took to the streets of Monaco in late May, Apple Inc. screened its upcoming F1 film for the real-life drivers and team managers competing at the pinnacle of motorsport. It was crucial to Apple's services boss, Eddy Cue, that the company get it right. Not only is Cue himself a lifelong racing fan who sits on the board of Ferrari NV, but the movie is among Apple's most expensive pictures to date, with a budget of more than $200 million. Raising the stakes even higher, it marks the tech giant's return to theaters since dialing back its earlier big-screen ambitions. To capture the feel of sitting in a cockpit hurtling forward at 233 mph (375 kph), Apple mounted dozens of iPhone cameras on cars zooming through actual F1 events. In fact, the setup produced scenes so dramatic that the company has entered talks with Formula One to permanently affix its miniature lenses onto each car's fuselage, which would change how the sport is televised to roughly 70 million global viewers per race.

2025 Lotus Emira Adds Fuel to the Lotus Lineup, with 4 or 6 Cylinders

"Hearst Magazines and Yahoo may earn commission or revenue on some items through these links." Lotus is making a massive push for its battery-electric powertrains, with the vast majority of its lineup eschewing internal combustion. But there is still one ICE-powered Lotus in the portfolio that carries the name Emira. Taking what the brand has learned from its Elise, Exige, and Evora, the Emira sticks with the brand's sports car ethos. Powering the Emira is either a supercharged 3.5-liter V6 or a turbocharged 2.0-liter I4. Despite the difference in cylinders, both engines advertise 400 hp. If you want to row your own gears, you'll have to look at the V6. On this episode of Quick Spin, Autoweek's Mark Vaughn hops behind the wheel of the 2025 Lotus Emira, puts it through its paces, takes you on a guided tour of the coupe, and highlights some of his favorite features. Later, Vaughn takes you along for a live drive review of this Lotus, then chats with host Wesley Wren about the Emira, Lotus' electric endeavors, and more. Closing the show, the pair breaks down what makes the Emira special. Tune in below, on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, or wherever podcasts are played.

Ferrari Branches Out Into Sailing With Engine-Free Racing Yacht

Ferrari NV unveiled a prototype racing yacht that will hit the ocean next year as the supercar maker branches out into sailing. The Italian manufacturer's 100-foot monohull vessel will serve as a research platform for technologies that could be applied to future road cars and motor-sport projects, Ferrari said Wednesday. All the on-board systems are to be powered by renewable energy generated by sail, with no combustion engine.
