WASHINGTON, D.C. (KNWA/KFTA) — On Wednesday night, two Israeli embassy employees were murdered outside the Capital Jewish Museum. Arkansas officials have condemned the murders in statements on Thursday morning.
Officials say that there is no threat to the community. Authorities are investigating the shooting as a hate crime and possible terrorism.

Senator Tom Cotton called the murders antisemitic and terroristic in a post on X.
'On behalf of Arkansans, I extend deepest condolences for the tragic loss of Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Lynn Milgrim to their families and our Israeli friends. I condemn these antisemitic murders—and the wave of depraved antisemitic incitement that contributed to this atrocity. This terrorist attack mere blocks from the Capitol is what they mean when they chant 'globalize the intifada.' We must not only get justice for these murders, but also oppose—bravely, strongly, and consistently—antisemitism in all its forms.'
Representative Steve Womack said the following in an X statement:
'The heartbreaking murder of two Israeli embassy staff members in our nation's capital is a punch to the gut. Antisemitism, violence, and hatred have no place in our country. I stand with Israel and extend my deepest prayers to the families and loved ones of these young victims.'

Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders said in an X statement:
'Terrorism and antisemitism are evil and have no place in America or anywhere else. We are praying for every Israeli and every Jew across the world tonight. America stands with you.'
Mike Huckabee, former Arkansas governor and current U.S. Ambassador to Israel, said in an X statement:
'Horrific act of terror that the people of Israel are waking up to this morning. AG Pam Bondi called to let me know and was at the scene. 2 dead in shooting targeting Israeli embassy staffers outside Jewish Museum in Washington D.C.'
Senator John Boozman said in an X statement:
'Antisemitic violence and hate have no place in our country. Lifting up the victims of this tragic, cowardly act as well as Jewish Americans living in fear amid the unthinkable and growing threats to their safety. We stand with you.'

Thousands demand respect at annual gay pride parade in Jerusalem

Thousands of people took part in the annual Pride Parade in Jerusalem on Thursday amidst very strict security measures. They demonstrated for the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer people (LGBTQ) and waved rainbow flags. According to the organizers, the parade is primarily about demanding equality, respect and tolerance. The Pride Parade in Jerusalem has to be protected by a massive police presence every year. Jerusalem is home to many conservative and strictly religious Jews, Muslims and Christians who deny same-sex relationships as a violation of their religious commandments. Ten years ago, an ultra-Orthodox Jew stabbed 16-year-old Shira Banki to death during the parade. Participants observed a minute's silence at the spot where Banki was killed in 2015. Israeli President Isaac Herzog, who was at the event, said: "We demand love, respect and equality – including for the LGBTQ community, which is an integral part of Israeli society." According to the news site ynet, Herzog is the first president to take part in the Pride Parade in Jerusalem. The chairwoman of the organizer Jerusalem Open House, Hadas Bloemendal Kerem, said: "The Pride Parade in Jerusalem is a ray of light that has illuminated the city for over two decades and reminds us that we can live here together – with equality, tolerance and respect." Clashes broke out between demonstrators and the police on the fringes of the parade, according to media reports. Next week, large crowds are expected to attend the well-known Gay Pride Parade in Tel Aviv. The liberal coastal metropolis is considered a stronghold of the gay scene in Israel and the LGBTQ capital of the Middle East.

Israel strikes Beirut's suburbs to target what it says is Hezbollah drone production

BEIRUT (AP) — The Israeli military struck several sites in Beirut's southern suburbs that it said held underground facilities used by Hezbollah for drone production Thursday, on the eve of the Eid al-Adha holiday. The strikes marked the first time in more than a month that Israel had struck on the outskirts of the capital and the fourth time since a US-brokered ceasefire agreement ended the latest war between Israel and the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah in November. Israel posted a warning ahead of the strikes on X, formerly known as Twitter, announcing that it would hit eight buildings at four locations. Israel has continued to carry out near-daily strikes in southern and eastern Lebanon since the ceasefire, which Lebanon has said are in violation of the agreement. Israeli officials say the strikes are intended to prevent Hezbollah from regrouping after a war that took out much of its senior leadership and arsenal. The Israeli army said in a statement that Hezbollah was 'working to produce thousands of drones under the guidance and financing of Iranian terrorist groups.' Hezbollah 'used drones extensively in its attacks against the State of Israel and is working to expand its drone industry and production in preparation for the next war,' the army statement said. There was no immediate statement from Hezbollah. A Hezbollah official who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to comment publicly denied that there were drone production facilities at the targeted locations. 'In the (ceasefire) agreement, there is a mechanism for investigating if there is a complaint,' the official said. 'Israel in general, and Netanyahu in particular, wants to continue the war in the region.' The conflict killed more than 4,000 people in Lebanon, including hundreds of civilians, while the Lebanese government said in April that Israeli strikes had killed another 190 people and wounded 485 wounded since the ceasefire. There has been increasing pressure on Hezbollah - both domestic and international - to give up its remaining arsenal, but officials with the group have said they will not do so until Israel stops its airstrikes and withdraws from five points it is still occupying along the border in southern Lebanon.
