'Performed very efficiently recently': Russia says India to get remaining S-400 systems by 2026
ANI photo NEW DELHI: Russia will deliver the remaining units of S-400 air defence systems to India by 2025-2026, in accordance with the deal, Russian authorities confirmed on Monday. The deputy chief of Russian mission in India, Roman Babushkin confirmed that the contract was on track. The official also noted that the system performed well during Operation Sindoor. "We heard that the S-400 performed very efficiently during the recent clashes between India and Pakistan. The air defence systems, according to what we are experiencing, the situation in Europe and here, this is one of the promising topics of our partnership in defence preparation in general," Babushkin told PTI . Babushkin also hinted at expanding bilateral cooperation with India in air defence and anti-drone systems while hailing the age-old partnership between India and Russia. "We have a long history of collaboration. We are open for promotion of this partnership for the discussion of the expansion of dialogue on air defence systems," he said. Talking about Russia's own experience of dealing with drone attacks, the official said that Russian defence systems were being upgraded . The deal was signed in 2018 worth $5.43 billion. India had defied US threat against dealing with Russia in the wake of sanctions on Moscow. Developed by Russia's Almaz-Antey, the S-400 is among the most advanced long-range surface-to-air missile systems in the world. The S-400 can engage aerial targets at ranges of up to 400 km and detect threats as far as 600 km away. It supports four different types of missiles, enabling it to target everything from aircraft and drones to cruise and ballistic missiles. Equipped with sophisticated phased-array radar, the system can track over 100 targets simultaneously and is mounted on mobile launchers for rapid repositioning.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair a meeting of the Union Council of Ministers on Wednesday, the first after India's punitive military action against Pakistan under Operation Sindoor, launched in response to the Pahalgam terror attack. According to PTI, the ministers are likely to be given details of the operation, which is also expected to figure in the ruling BJP's programmes starting next week to mark the first anniversary of the Modi government in its third term. Besides speaking on Operation Sindoor, the prime minister may give an overall highlight of his governance thrust in the council meeting as the ministers prepare to communicate with people across the country during the anniversary events. India's precise strikes on nine terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, followed by its counterattack on the neighbouring country's military facilities, especially air bases, have been a highlight of Prime Minister Modi's recent speeches. He has affirmed that Operation Sindoor has marked India's "new normal" in punishing terror acts linked to Pakistan and vowed to go after terrorists and their sponsors with equal ferocity in case of any future terror incidents on Indian soil. The Council of Ministers, which generally meets in a few months but has no fixed frequency, unlike the Union Cabinet, and key government policies are discussed threadbare in the presence of top bureaucrats. On April 22, terrorists shot down 26 civilians in the popular Kashmir destination, igniting nationwide outrage and calls for retribution.

PM Modi To Meet All-Party Outreach Delegations On Op Sindoor
New Delhi: The all-party delegations sent across the world to explain Operation Sindoor are on way home and the first delegation led by Jay Panda, lands in Delhi tomorrow. Sources said Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet the members of all the delegations once they return. The meeting could be held on June 9 or 10, sources said. The delegations, sources added, will brief PM Modi about the discussions they held with the world leaders. Before that, the delegations will meet External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. The meeting with the team led by Baijayant Panda will be held at 2.30 pm. Mr Panda's team had visited Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Algeria. Shrikant Shinde's delegation will meet Jaishankar on June 5 at 10.30 am. The delegation headed by Sanjay Jha will reach Delhi on June 3 at 9.30 pm, the one led by Shrikant Shinde will reach the next morning. Seven delegations were sent around the world in the wake of Operation Sindoor - India's retaliation to the April 22 terror attack on Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam on April 22 that cost 26 lives and the subsequent Pakistani aggression on Indian cities and the border areas. For four days - May 7 to May 10- Pakistan had rained drones and missiles, all of which were successfully intercepted by India's multi-layered air defence system. It was one of the worst clashes in decades, with both sides trading air, drone and missile strikes, as well as artillery and small arms fire along the border. On May 31, the armed forces had acknowledged for the first time that they had lost an unspecified number of fighter jets in the clash. Chief of Defence Staff Anil Chauhan, however, rubbished Pakistan's claims that it had down six Indian fighter jets. Shortly after, India sent seven delegations of leaders cutting across party lines to explain Operation Sindoor and India's stance on terror activities backed by Pakistan.
