Edmonton Elks' Mark Korte signs deal to remain in green and gold for 3 more seasons
Edmonton Elks' All-Star offensive lineman Mark Korte has signed a three-year contract extension with the football club which will run to the end of the 2027 CFL season.
Korte was drafted fourth overall by the Ottawa Redblacks in 2018. He signed with the Elks in 2022 and is entering his fourth season in green and gold.
Korte said he believes in the new vision of the organization led by president and CEO Chris Morris along with general manager and vice-president of football operations Ed Hervey and head coach Mark Kilam.
'It's been a very good picture of a vision from the top and working its way through the whole organization,' Korte said. 'You've seen the hype throughout the city and the people are loving it.

In 2024, Korte was named a West Division All-Star after leading an offensive line unit to the fewest sacks in the CFL (29) and the most rushing yards (2,365).
Korte played the last two-and-a-half seasons at centre. He will move over to left guard for the returning David Beard who signed a deal to rejoin the Elks in the off-season after spending parts of three seasons with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
The Elks will hold Fan Day on Saturday at the Emerald Hills Sports Pavilion in Sherwood Park from 10 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.
The Elks will play their first pre-season game on May 24 on the road against the Calgary Stampeders.

Thunder embraced their moments of adversity this season. It paid off in Game 4 of the NBA Finals
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The book is called 'The Obstacle Is the Way.' It's a gift that Oklahoma City coach Mark Daigneault gave to Thunder center Isaiah Hartenstein during a trying time this season, knowing the voracious reader would figure out the meaning. Message delivered. 'I read it and remembered that everything happens for a reason,' Hartenstein said. 'And after that, everything worked out great.' Such has been the story of the Thunder season. Such was the story of Game 4 of the NBA Finals. Faced with the biggest challenge of their season — a 10-point deficit in the second half, staring at a very real chance of the Indiana Pacers grabbing the almost-insurmountable 3-1 lead in the title round — the Thunder, once again, came away saying everything worked out great. Led by a dazzling and frantic finish from the reigning MVP and scoring champion Shai Gilgeous-Alexander — who had 15 of his 35 points in the final five minutes or so — the Thunder rallied in the fourth quarter to beat Indiana 111-104 on Friday night. The series is now tied 2-2, heading back to Oklahoma City for Game 5 on Monday night, and it's the Thunder who have home-court advantage again. 'That was an uphill game against a great team,' Daigneault said after Game 4 in Indianapolis, simultaneously lauding his team while also raving about the Pacers. 'This is one of the best teams in the league in the last couple months, since All-Star break. They're a hard team to beat here. They're a hard team to beat, period. I thought we gutted it out on a night when we didn't have a lot going, especially offensively.' It was a night when the Thunder made only three 3-pointers and were shooting 45% with about five minutes left before Gilgeous-Alexander got going. He took 11 shots in the final 4:40 — three field-goal attempts, one of them a 3-point try, and eight free throws — and made them all. A perfect finish, on a night when little had gone to plan. 'It's unbelievable,' Daigneault said. 'He really didn't have it going a lot of the night. He was laboring. We had a hard time shaking him free. For him to be able to flip the switch like that and get the rhythm he got just speaks to how great of a player he is.' It might not have seemed so to the outside world — those who fixated on things like Oklahoma City's 68-14 franchise-best record, its 16-game lead over its nearest challenger in the Western Conference standings, a record number of double-digit wins and how all of it was led by the MVP and scoring champion in Gilgeous-Alexander. But the Thunder did, in fact, face some adversity this season. They played without Chet Holmgren and Hartenstein for a while during the year. There was some flux to the lineup at times. Everybody probably had some sort of mini-slump along the way. There was a Game 1 loss in the second round to Denver. And Daigneault embraced every bit of that pain, knowing that for the Thunder to get to where they want to go adversity was going to present itself. Like the being-down-10, late-third-quarter sort of adversity that came up in Game 4. Just like Hartenstein was led to believe by the book, everything worked out great. 'We haven't really had to show it a lot this year, with the success we had in the regular season,' guard Jalen Williams said shortly before the team left for the flight back to Oklahoma City, where a huge crowd showed up in the middle of the night to greet the team at the airport — as they often do. 'We've had a lot of ups and downs during the playoffs. We've just learned from those experiences. That is something Mark is really big on; every game you should be able to learn, then the next game you should be able to apply something and get better at it. That's what we're trying to do every time.' The series is far from over and the Thunder know it. Indiana already has won once at Oklahoma City in these finals; surely, the Pacers think they can do it again. And even though the teams finished 18 wins apart in the final standings — OKC won 68 times, Indiana won 50 — it doesn't seem like 18 wins worth of disparity between the clubs right now. Indiana stole Game 1 at the end. Oklahoma City stole Game 4 at the end, albeit not as dramatically as the Pacers took the opener. Game 2 was pretty much controlled by the Thunder throughout; the Pacers had the best of the play for the majority of Game 3. Arrives a few hours prior to puck drop. Add it up, and it looks exactly like what it is — a 2-2 series going into Game 5. 'I still feel like we have so much work to do,' Gilgeous-Alexander said. Montreal (2-0-0) extended its winning streak at TD Place to 11 games. Matt Shiltz, who got the start for the injured Dru Brown at quarterback for Ottawa, was 22-for-32 for 205 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions. Redblacks receiver Eugene Lewis's streak of consecutive games with a touchdown came to an end, ending his bid to tie Terry Evanshen's record of 10 straight games. The Alouettes started the fourth quarter with a 50-yard field goal early in the fourth, but it was a Wesley Sutton interception on the ensuing play that he ran back for a 45-yard touchdown that put the game out of reach, 36-18. Jose Maltos added a 19-yard field goal to close out the scoring. Ottawa (0-2-0) did its best to keep pace in the second half but struggled. It started the half well with CJ Coldon intercepting Alexander, setting the Redblacks up at the 36-yard line. Three plays later, Dustin Crum punched it in from the one to cut the deficit to 19-10. Montreal conceded a rouge on the ensuing kickoff, making it 19-11. The Alouettes answered midway through the third, as Alexander connected with James Letcher Jr. for a 23-yard touchdown to extend the lead to 26-11. But Ottawa kept fighting. Shiltz found Bralon Addison in the end zone for a nine-yard score late in the quarter, narrowing the gap to 26-18. Montreal took a commanding 19-3 lead into halftime. Montreal opened the scoring with a field goal on its first drive, and kicker Maltos stayed perfect, hitting four in total — from 30, 16, 27 and 49 yards — including one on the final play of the half. Ottawa had a golden opportunity early after recovering a Montreal fumble at the 26-yard line. The Redblacks drove to the one but were stuffed twice and turned the ball over on downs. Lewis Ward hit a 25-yard field goal to make it 6-3, but Montreal responded immediately. Alexander connected with Tyler Snead for a 69-yard gain, and a major foul by Robert Priester set up Caleb Evans for a one-yard quarterback sneak. After the Argos began their Grey Cup title defence with a 28-10 road loss in Montreal last week, McManis welcomes the return to BMO Field, where the club is 16-2 the last two seasons. 'Just the love we get from Argos Nation, their energy, their passion,' McManis said in explaining Toronto's home-field record. 'We see them all the time at practice and when they show up at the game, you feel like they're stepping on to the field. 'I think that adds a little something to us and we always come with a little more juice.' Toronto has excelled at BMO Field under Ryan Dinwiddie, who's in his fifth season as head coach and has led the Argos to a 27-7 home mark. 'Obviously you want to do that for your fans and play exciting football for them,' Dinwiddie said. 'But if we win all of our home games there's a good chance we're going to make the playoffs. 'We still have to win on the road, that's an emphasis as well. But when we're at home I think guys are excited to go out there and play in front of our great fans.' The rushing attack figured prominently in Calgary's season-opening 38-26 win over Hamilton last week as the Stamps had 158 yards on 31 attempts (5.1-yard average) with Dedrick Mills accounting for 94 yards and three touchdowns. 'It (stopping run) is always the most important thing, that's always your first goal,' said McManis, who had nine tackles against Montreal. 'Mills is a great back, he does a good job of reading and breaking a lot of tackles so we have to make sure we swarm to the ball and tackle with all 12 hats.' Then again, Calgary's offensive co-ordinator Pat DelMonaco is also its offensive-line coach. 'Pat is an O-line coach at heart so he wants to to play a physical brand of football,' Dinwiddie said. 'They're going to try to attack us downhill and we've got a good plan for it. 'Guys are aware of it and it all starts up front for us in this game.' 'We had our moments last week and we've got to build off those and make sure it's a complete game this week.' McManis agreed. 'There are some things we need to clean up,' he said. 'It's early in the year, we've got to fix some MAs (missed assignments) and clean up the penalties but it's not really anything you're too worried about. 'I feel like we're in a good spot mentally, I feel like everyone is prepared and wants to get things done the right way. Our effort and compassion is there for it.' Toronto hasn't started a season 0-2 since 2019. Calgary has dropped its last two games at BMO Field after winning eight straight road contests versus Toronto.
