Yahoo27-03-2025

The Brief
A major crash left four children and one woman, their mother, injured in Independence Heights on Yale Street.
The father, who was driving a Ford Expedition, left his wife and children at the scene after crashing into a Chevy Avalanche.
Police say the driver in the Ford Expedition was driving, possibly near 100 mph, before the collision.
HOUSTON - Houston police are investigating a major crash on Tuesday that took place at 5051 Yale in Independence Heights.
What we know
According to HPD, a Ford Expedition was traveling southbound on Yale, possibly going 100 miles an hour.
Police say the Ford hit a Chevy Avalanche that was trying to make an illegal right turn from the left-hand lane and hit the Ford Expedition, sending that Ford Expedition into a nearby ditch.
"It flipped. He hit me, he flipped over the guard rail, everything, he went down in that ditch. When I got down there, the front end was bashed in, the windows was knocked out," said John McCoy. "I looked out my mirror before I was going to turn and I ain't see nothing, and then, bam."
Inside the Ford Expedition was a father wife and four kids. The four kids were injured, as well as the wife. The father actually took off, according to one witness that we spoke to, whose name is Sylvester Hughes III.
"He flagged down another car and ran away. The car was blue," Hughes said.
Houston police say the oldest, who is 8-years-old, was ejected from the vehicle and the others were toddlers.
"I crawled down there, I slipped up under the car going down in the ditch, got down there in the bayou. I got them out one by one. The wife was harder to get out, because she was a bigger girl. But I told a few of them guys, help me man, help me," said McCoy. "They made it. They survived. When I got him out, he was a little bigger boy. He was a problem. They had to go CPR on him."
According to a witness, Herman Loston, he said one of the children was a small infant.
Loston adds he was at the Yale Food Mart just hanging out enjoying the evening when he saw the Ford Expedition flying by on Yale, heard the crash, and he decided to help take a listen.
"I got one of the kids, my other homeboy got one of the kids, and a couple other people, got the other babies, and it was a guy and a young lady was in there. She got out last, but one of the babies was hurt real bad, and had a lump on its head, and had a gash on its neck. Another baby, he was upright, because she started crying, and the paramedics were like the baby was alright, and the other one wasn't saying too much of nothing," Loston said.
Police are still investigating.
What we don't know
Police say they are looking for the father and the vehicle he fled the scene in.

Honolulu police investigate alleged child abuse after viral video

Honolulu police said they have opened an investigation into a case of alleged child abuse after a video went viral on social media. On Thursday evening, a witness scrolling through Instagram saw a post of a woman allegedly assaulting a girl. The witness was able to identify the woman and child and called 911. The Honolulu Police Department said today that officers have identified a 34-year-old woman as the child's mother, and taken her two children – an 11-year-old, autistic girl and a 3-year-old boy—into police custody and transferred them to Child Welfare Services. The viral post, shared on @hhnewz, asked, 'What would you do in this situation if you saw this ??' as a woman seated in a car at Kapolei Commons appears to yank the child by her hair so that she falls onto her knees on the pavement in a parking lot, in front of an open car door. HPD's strategic enforcement detail located the mother, along with the child and her brother, at about 10 a.m. today in the Kapolei area. Police said the Honolulu Department of the Prosecuting Attorney, Domestic Violence Section, have been notified, and are working to pursue charges against the mother. No arrests have been made, pending the ongoing investigation. 'The Honolulu Police Department takes abuse allegations seriously and urges the public to report incidents by calling 911 or visiting any police station, open 24 /7, ' HPD officials said in a social media post. Houston ICE Deports 142 Mexican Criminals

(Texas Scorecard) – U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has deported 142 criminal aliens from the Houston area to Mexico. Among them were eight known gang members, 11 convicted child predators, and one individual who had entered the country illegally 21 separate times. Collectively, the group illegally entered the country 480 times and accumulated 473 criminal convictions for a wide range of serious crimes, including: 11 convictions for child sex crimes 76 convictions for driving while intoxicated (DWI) 43 convictions for aggravated assault and domestic violence 22 convictions for human smuggling ICE Houston Field Office Director Bret Bradford said, 'Unfortunately, this is not an anomaly. For the past few years, there has been virtually no deterrent to illegal entry into the country.' As a result, millions of illegal aliens, including violent criminals, child predators, transnational gang members, and foreign fugitives, have poured into the U.S. Among the most egregious cases: Benito Charqueno Zavala, 60, was convicted of continuous sexual abuse of a child and is one of the 11 convicted child predators deported. Johnny Urbina Carillo, 37, was convicted of sexually exploiting a minor and had prior convictions for cocaine possession and illegal reentry. Luis Angel Garcia-Contreras, 40, a documented member of the Sureños 13 gang, had illegally entered the U.S. 21 times and had four convictions for illegal entry. Last week, ICE arrested nine illegal aliens allegedly involved in a drug trafficking operation that utilized both the U.S. Mail and a taco truck for distribution. Last month, ICE arrested 422 illegal aliens in the Houston area, including a convicted murderer who had been released into the country under Biden-era parole policies. Harris County Commissioner Tom Ramsey, a Republican, noted that the county jail maintains a strong partnership with ICE and regularly transfers custody of individuals with ICE detainers. Houston Mayor John Whitmire clarified in January that the Houston Police Department does not participate in federal immigration enforcement. 'HPD enforces state laws and will hold violators accountable regardless of immigration status,' he said. Still, HPD does notify ICE when officers encounter suspects with active immigration warrants.
