Pop star Sam Ryder has caused a big stir among rugby viewers after a very different rendition of the English national anthem ahead of the Gallagher Premiership final.
Eurovision star Ryder appeared in the middle of the Twickenham pitch as he performed God Save the King simply with an electric guitar. ITV Rugby commentator Alastair Eykyn said: "It's the national anthem, but not as we know it."
The controversial move took viewers aback, with many less than enthusiastic about the departure from the norm. A number of players also seemed surprised by what was unfolding at the home of English rugby, with veteran Leicester prop Dan Cole appearing to struggle to keep a straight face.
While there were some who appreciated God Save the King being done in a different way, most viewers expressed a different view on social media.

Another added: 'Dan Cole's face says it all. Oh my days a picture is worth a thousand words or what?! Bonkers man!'
"Sam Ryder playing the guitar to the national anthem is an absolute disgrace btw. So disrespectful," said a viewer on X.
Further comments included: "Sam Ryder just killed the National Anthem at Twickenham" and "Who on earth thought that Sam Ryder performance was a good idea!"
Bath were playing Leicester Tigers for the crown of English champions in front of a sell-out crowd.
The UK's 2022 Eurovision entrant Ryder, 35, was the first British act to come second since Imaani in 1998, and the first to make it to the top five since Jade Ewen with It's My Time in 2009.
Ryder has recently moved to the US and put down 'roots' in Nashville, which is associated with the country singer.
He added: 'It's been a dream for a long time (to move there) and, but I didn't realise… finishing the album, my studio's here in the UK, so (I had) to come straight back and get the album done, so the problem is I've had zero sleep.'
Ryder, from Essex, began as a TikTok star.
He signed to the Parlophone record label, part of Warner Music Group, and released his debut EP, The Sun's Gonna Rise, in 2021, before going to Eurovision in 2022.

8 unhinged moments from Donald Trump's bizarre birthday tank parade
The long-awaited spectacle, on paper a celebration of the 250th anniversary of the US Army, was sparsely attended - with far fewer than the expected 250,000 Trump fans turning up for his 79th birthday bash Donald Trump seemed to struggle staying awake as his $45 million birthday parade of tanks and troops rolled through a humid Washington DC on Saturday night. The long-awaited spectacle, on paper a celebration of the 250th anniversary of the US Army, was sparsely attended - with far fewer than the expected 250,000 Trump fans turning up for his 79th birthday bash. Elements of the parade - including a parachute display - were moved earlier as dark stormclouds gathered over the National Mall, threatening to soak the 7,000 soldiers marching the two-mile route in 30 degree heat. In the end the weather mostly let them alone - but the chest-beating display of American pomp came at the end of a fraught week for America, and alongside huge protests against Trump's authoritarian behaviour. Everything is fine. Here's what you need to know. 1. Trump struggled to stay awake Trump appeared to struggle to keep his eyes open from time to time. There also was a very weird moment towards the end, where Trump and Melania just stood in the middle of the stage for several minutes in silence, until a uniformed military officer appeared to tap Trump on the shoulder and suggest he might like to try leaving the stage. 2. He came on stage to God Save the King When Trump came on stage for his birthday speech, the US Army band played not 'Hail to the Chief', but 'God Save The King'. In America, the tune of our national anthem is shared with the patriotic song 'My Country 'Tis of Thee'. But if you were looking for signs that Donald already considers himself a monarch, there were plenty to find at Saturday's parade. 3. Nobody looked like they wanted to be there The President sat between gurning Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth - wearing a gaudy camouflage tie and Stars and Stripes pocket square - and a scowling Melania throughout the parade. A few seats away, Secretary of State Marco Rubio looked decidedly bored, sitting sideways on his chair and yawning. 4. The sponsor shoutouts were very weird Among many jarring juxtapositions in Saturday's parade was the list of Trump-friendly sponsors who got shoutouts throughout the display of military sacrifice. "Ladies and Gentlemen," the host said in a booming voice as tanks and troops filed past the President. "Please thank our sponsor, [crypto firm] Coinbase." Later there were shoutouts for datamining firm Palantir and the UFC. Even weirder were the tents where serving soldiers in uniform were handing out free cans of Phorm Energy, a truly vile beverage co-owned by UFC boss Dana White. The variety on offer at the parade was called "Screamin' Freedom". 5. The parade was impressive - but not quite North Korea While the hardware on show was huge and intimidating, the parade itself was not on the same level of grandeur and precision as those seen in dictatorships. Similar displays in North Korea feature huge blocks of troops in tight, formal formation and strict, disciplined marching. Saturday's parade appeared more relaxed, with soldiers ambling down Constitution Avenue, often not in lockstep with each other. But the festivities ended with a genuinely impressive display of American firepower - a huge firework display next to the Washington monument. NK1 6. Millions were protesting against it Thousands of protests filled streets across the United States at the same time as the parade, under the banner of "No Kings". Organisers said millions of Americans marched in hundreds of events, which largely passed without violence or incident. Huge crowds marched, danced, drummed, and chanted shoulder-to-shoulder in New York, Denver, Chicago, Austin and Los Angeles. Atlanta's 5,000-capacity event quickly reached its limit, with thousands more gathered outside barriers to hear speakers in front of the state Capitol. Officials in Seattle estimated that more than 70,000 people attended the city's largest rally. The demonstrations come on the heels of the protests over Trump's mass deportation raids that began last week - and Trump ordering the National Guard and Marines to Los Angeles, where protesters blocked a freeway and set cars on fire. "Today, across red states and blue, rural towns and major cities, Americans stood in peaceful unity and made it clear: we don't do kings," the No Kings Coalition said in a statement Saturday afternoon after many events had ended. Thousands gathered in downtown LA, where organisers handed out small American flags and people carried protest signs saying "fight oligarchy" and "deport the mini-Mussolinis." 7. The TV news split screens were far from ideal While he made no mention of current events in his speech, the event came at the end of a fraught week for America. Most will have seen Trump's birthday parade on TV news, as a split-screen juxtaposed with either the manhunt for Minnesota assassinations suspect Vance Boelter, crowds howling in protest or missile strikes in Iran and Israel. 8. There were in the crowd The crowd was quite diverse - with a handful of people attending with "No Kings" banners and quite a lot of non-Trump supporting DC locals turning out for the spectacle. But the largest contingent were MAGA die hards, many of whom had travelled hundreds of miles for their guy's birthday. Michael Neill, a 21-year Army veteran who travelled from New Hampshire for Trump's birthday told the Mirror he thought the parade was "great." "I think it's great that the Army after 250 years is having a parade in our nation's capital," he said. "That shows strength, but it also shows that we love our military." Mr Neill went on to say he believes President Trump won the 2020 election, and that Joe Biden was "executed for treason" while in office, and replaced by an actor. "The movie Mission Impossible, the masks? Thats a real thing, folks," he said. "Theres a lot of masks going on and we're about to find out." Gregory, who came from New Jersey to the parade in a bright white shirt, suit and tie, said he was there to celebrate the birthday of "America's dad - Donald J Trump." And some in the crowd wanted to see Trump stay in office longer than the constitution allows - much longer, in fact. Asked if he wanted to see Trump's name on the ballot in 2028, Edward X Young from New Jersey - who has attended 112 Trump rallies - said: "I hope so." But Rose, his friend from Pennsylvania, who wore a blue T-shirt bearing slogans related to the Q-Anon conspiracy theory, went further. "I think Donald Trump is going to be the last President," she said, adding she doesn't think the 2028 election will take place. "I think the Democrats have destroyed our democratic process with elections, Mr Young said. "They've corrupted jt so bad. Let's face it, this is the greatest President in the history of our country....I want Trump for king." Later, Rose asked me if I thought Princess Diana was still alive. She did not.

Lola Young walks off stage in tears as Capital Summertime Ball is blighted by technical difficulties
Capital's Summertime Ball got off to a tricky start with the all-star concert blighted by technical difficulties. The annual music event took place on Sunday at Wembley Arena in London, with a slew of the world's favourite singing stars in attendance, including Lola Young. But when it came to her performance, the popstar's ear piece stopped working, causing her to walk off the stage after just two songs. During her performance of Messy Lola, 24, said: 'Sorry guys my ears are going in and out.' before shouting out, 'Can I get some new ears?' As she tried her hardest to sing along to her own lyrics, she couldn't keep in time with the band, so tried to power through, instead asking her fans to: 'Sing along please'. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. After a few attempts of trying to sing again, she still couldn't hear and said to the crowd: 'It's like they're doing it on purpose' before letting the song end and then walking off the stage, appearing to be in tears. Whilst it is unknown if her set finished early, Eurovision 's Remember Monday then came on to sing their aptly named song, What The Hell Just Happened? And it wasn't just Lola's performance which seemed to have problems. Zara Larsson's mic dropped out during her time on stage and the live YouTube stream, was delayed by twenty minutes, meaning viewers were not up to speed with the performances. Fans were less than impressed, taking to social media to fume their disappointment urging Capital 'to do better'. One penned: 'i feel so bad for lola young, capital do better #CapitalSTB' 'Bring Lola Young back #messy #capitalsummertimeball #capital #CapitalFMsSummertimeBall #CapitalSTB #bringlolayoungbacknowpls' 'I feel so sorry for these artists because w*f are these technical difficulties today?! :// you're at Wembley stadium and have had months to prepare for this ffs #CapitalFMsSummertimeBall' But when it came to her performance, the popstar's ear piece stopped working, causing her to walk off the stage after just two songs 'i feel so so so so bad for lola omg #CapitalFMsSummertimeBall' 'good for lola in ears stopped working. deadass sprant back to the band so she could hear them playing and she's actually got an insanely good voice.. those belts... okay diva i'm listening... #CapitalSTB' 'Whoa, Lola Young calling out sabotage on her live vocals at Summertime Ball? That's some serious tea! Any details on what happened or who she's pointing the finger at? #CapitalSTB #LolaYoung' 'WHY IS THIS STREAM 20 MINUTES BEHIND. lola young's set being a disaster and then now i have to wait to watch reneé's set when it's happening right now???' MailOnline has contacted Capital FM and Lola Young's representative for comment. It's not the first time Lola has had to deal with unexpected problems on stage, after her debut at Coachella festival earlier this year. The singer suffered with the heat as she took unwell on stage and was forced to run off to vomit. The musician took to Instagram a week after her performance to share a video montage of herself powering through the set in between gags before she ran off asking: 'Can I get a bucket?' Yet despite the wave of nausea and sickness she still pushed through and completed her performance. Posting the series of clips from the set to her 1.4 million Instagram followers, she comically captioning the video: 'Not me doing my first Coachella & gagging & throwing up all the way through the set.' It's not the first time Lola has had to deal with unexpected things on stage, after her debut at Coachella festival earlier this year However, Lola didn't let the illness defeat her, as another clip showed her returning to the stage and twerking, and was captioned: 'And I'm back n twerking my way through the sickness.' In the final clip, she jokes to the crowd: 'That wouldn't have been cute if I threw up.' She humorously captioned it: 'If ur coming today maybe it'll be messier. Trying to hang in there with all my power.' Sharing the montage, Lola admitted nerves may have gotten the best of her: 'I was nervous guys and it was 40 bloody degrees.'

Peter Schmeichel's new Playboy model wife after Man Utd legend's difficult announcement
Peter Schmeichel's new Playboy model wife after Man Utd legend's difficult announcement Peter Schmeichel is back on UK TV screens this weekend as part of Soccer Aid, with the former goalkeeper trading his gloves for a tactics board as manager of the World XI Peter Schmeichel divorced first wife Bente in 2013 (Image: Corbis via Getty Images ) Manchester United icon Peter Schmeichel is no stranger to an eye-catching transfer having joined their neighbours Manchester City. The treble-winning shot stopper enjoyed huge success with the Red Devils, establishing himself as one of the greatest goalkeepers of all-time. But he departed after their famous 1999 Champions League triumph, a decision he's since admitted was a mistake. His subsequent move to City in 2002 also raised eyebrows, with Gary Neville memorably snubbing him in the tunnel when the two sides met. But both return to Old Trafford for Soccer Aid this weekend with any wounds long healed. Neville is part of the England squad set to take on the World XI, who Schmeichel will be managing. The Dane, 61, will be back in familiar surroundings at the Theatre of Dreams, but it'll be a different woman cheering him on than the one he was married to during his playing career. Why did Peter Schmeichel get a divorce? Schmeichel met his wife Bente when they were just teenagers. They married young and went on to have two children together - daughter Cecile, and his more well-known offspring, son Kasper. He followed in his father's footsteps, going on to miraculously win the Premier League with Leicester City in 2016. But by that point, his parents had split up. Article continues below Schmeichel announced in 2013: "After 31 years of living together, I am sorry to have to inform you that Bente and I'm in the process of separation negotiations. The pair had been married 31 years (Image: UK Press via Getty Images ) "It has been a very difficult decision, but in the circumstances we feel good. We agree that our family has the highest priority, and we hope that the media will respect our privacy, and that we have no further comment." He didn't disclose the reasons for their split, but it was believed to be a mutual decision after their relationship grew strained. It didn't take long for Schmeichel to find love again. Who is Peter Schmeichel married to? A year later he began dating Laura von Lindholm, a former Playboy model turned nutritionist who's nine years his junior. 'I met Laura in a period where I was making changes in my life,' he told BBC's Desert Island Discs. Schmeichel is now married to former model Laura von Lindholm (Image: Adam Davy/PA Wire ) 'I fell in love and we had a little getaway in London and I didn't want the public to know that I was in a new relationship. I wanted to keep a low profile so I was wearing a scarf and a hat and everything. "And Laura's looking at me and she's saying, 'How famous are you?' Laura didn't know anything about football and she's kind of ridiculing me a little bit.' She soon realised the scale of his fame when a group of builders saw through Schmeichel's disguise and shouted out his name. He continued: 'And then we go to the Champions League final in Milan and this little guy comes up to me. After a period of separation, they reunited and wed (Image: Instagram/lvonl ) "I've never met him in my life, but I know it's Phil Collins. I never met him but he's a big Man U fan… And Laura is next to me and she's completely, I mean she's completely, gobsmacked." However, it wasn't plain sailing for his second serious relationship either, as he and Laura broke up in 2017 before rekindling and swiftly deciding to tie the knot, getting married later in 2019. It took place in front of 200 guests at the Egebaeksvang Church in Espergaerde, Copenhagen. Article continues below Schmeichel has a house in the town, although he's often on location around Europe for CBS Sports' Champions League coverage. And he's been back in England this week gearing up for Soccer Aid and whipping his World XI squad into shape.
