The move follows the issuance of closure orders by the
state-level environment impact authority
Tuesday. While these mines received approval from the district-level authority, the state-level authority has now ordered operations to cease.
As per the records, among the mines facing closure, the highest numbers are in Alwar (25), Rajsamand (23), Karauli (20), Bundi (14), Jaipur (4), Ajmer (5), and approximately 8 each in Udaipur and Banswara.
An official said, "These mines may resume operations once the required NOCs and documents are submitted to the relevant state authority. This includes
NOCs related to the Wildlife Board
."
Meanwhile, due to technical, administrative, and informational lapses in the online application process for mining licences set by the state govt, many quarry licence holders in the state were unable to apply. The mineral department mandated timely online applications for quarry licences expiring on March 31, 2025.
An official source said, "Over 1,000 mine owners failed to submit the required documents. The highest number is in Balesar, where approximately 551 applicants were left out."
An official said most of the affected licence holders are uneducated rural individuals with limited access to technical resources. Issues such as server errors on the departmental website, formula inconsistencies (e.g., instalment calculations), govt holidays in the last days of March, and lack of data updates were reported.

Additionally, many cases were delayed due to pending mutation/transfer processes, preventing timely applications.
A senior official said, "The affected parties have urged the govt to consider the matter sympathetically and allow a reapplication window for the deprived licence holders. They also demand halting the auction process until the issue is resolved, a thorough investigation into technical faults, implementation of immediate relief measures for affected families, and establishment of technical assistance centres at the village level in the future.
We are examining the cases and will provide every help at our level."

GCC to issue NOCs for pattas to families living on poramboke land in 65 locations
CHENNAI: The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has passed a resolution approving the issuance of No Objection Certificates (NOCs) for 65 locations identified across the city to facilitate the distribution of housing land titles (patta) to families who have been residing for over 10 years on government poramboke lands. The list of approved 65 locations for NOC issuance spans various city zones, including ward 22 in Madhavaram village, ward 16 in Mathur, ward 83 in Korattur, ward 182 in Perungudi, and ward 189 in Sholinganallur. 'With the GCC now issuing the NOCs, the next steps will be undertaken by the district administration to provide housing land titles to the identified families,' a senior corporation official told TNIE. The resolution follows a government order issued in February, which allows the regularisation of residential encroachments and issuance of free house site pattas. A cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister M K Stalin in January had decided to give approval for the regularisation scheme. Under the scheme, those residing on land classified as both unobjectionable poramboke lands and certain categories of objectionable poramboke lands will benefit. All hoarding permits to be issued online Effective May 21, all applications seeking permission for erecting hoardings in corporation limits must be submitted online through the GCC website, according to a release. The submission, processing, and approval of applications will all be done through the online system. The applications will be processed by the respective zonal team and forwarded to the traffic police for NOC. The proposals are then placed before the Single Window Approval Committee, which meets once every month. Applications approved by the committee will be digitally communicated to the applicants. Upon receipt of the payment online, the final approval will be issued.

SC declines to intervene in plea against Colaba Jetty Project near Gateway of India
New Delhi, May 27 (UNI) The Supreme Court on Tuesday refused to interfere with the Bombay High Court's decision allowing the continuation of construction work on a passenger jetty project near the Gateway of India in Mumbai's Colaba area. A bench headed by Chief Justice of India BR Gavai, while hearing the special leave petition filed by residents, questioned the opposition to the infrastructure development. 'Why this 'not in my backyard' behaviour? Everyone wants a sewage treatment plant, but not behind their home,' remarked the CJI. 'There is also a proposal to connect Vashi and Dombivli on the sea route,' he added, highlighting the broader public benefit of such initiatives. Senior advocate Sanjay Hegde, appearing for the petitioners, argued that the project was intended to create a private docking facility primarily for those travelling by ferry to Alibaug. However, additional solicitor general Aishwarya Bhati refuted the claim, asserting that the jetty is meant for daily commuters. 'It is incorrect... the attorney general has clarified that the project is for daily commuters. It was all over the media reports,' she said. The Bombay High Court, in its order dated May 7, had allowed the work at the site, finding that the project served public interest and declined to grant interim relief to the petitioners. Located approximately 280 metres from the historic Gateway of India, the project involves the development of passenger amenities including lounges, ticket counters, retail shops, office spaces, and parking facilities for up to 150 vehicles. The petitioners have raised concerns over the legality of various clearances granted for the project, including the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) approval and No Objection Certificates (NOCs) from heritage and traffic authorities. They also cited the lack of mandatory public consultation as a significant procedural lapse. Despite these concerns, the Supreme Court bench declined to intervene, allowing the Bombay High Court's order permitting the project's continuation to stand. UNI SNG PRS
