The 69th Eurovision Song Contest is taking place this weekend, and the UK is gearing up to send girl band Remember Monday to represent it in the biggest singing competition in the world. Someone who knows the pressure of competing in Eurovision is Welsh West End sensation Lucie Jones, who represented the UK at the contest in 2017 in Kyiv.
The now 34-year-old from the small village of Pentyrch, secured 15th place with her song Never Give Up on You. Host Graham Norton praised her as "one of our strongest entrants in years" after she amassed 111 points, at the time the highest tally since 2011.
Reflecting on her performance, she exclaimed: "That. Was. Incredible - unbelievable feeling. Celebrate diversity folks, I will NEVER give up on you". For the latest TV and showbiz gossip sign up to our newsletter .
Her taste for the stage started in 2010 when Cameron Mackintosh cast her as Cosette for the West End's Les Misérables, although she gained fame at just 18-years-old while participating in the sixth series of The X Factor in 2009.
The then-teenager left judges and audiences spellbound with her powerful rendition of Whitney Houston's classic, I Will Always Love You, in her first audition.

Lucie made it to the live shows where she shared the stage with the likes of Stacey Solomon, Olly Murs and Joe McElderry, under the mentorship of Dannii Minogue.
Her performances included renditions of Sweet Child Of Mine and My Funny Valentine before she was voted off in the fifth week, finishing in eight place.
The topic of Lucie's exit from the talent show sparked widespread debate. In a dramatic sing-off against Louis Walsh's pop-culture sensation Jedward, Lucie was sent home when Simon Cowell cast the deciding vote in favour of John and Edward, leading to public outcry and over 1,000 viewer complaints.
Reflecting on her X Factor ordeal years later, Lucie disclosed her feelings: "I did feel Simon was victimising me and in some ways, he was hypocritical for not saving me as he knew I could sing," she confided three years after the incident.
Recounting her immediate reaction, she said: "I was so upset I burst into tears in front of the judges. Afterwards, Simon walked out of the studio and tapped me on the nose and said, 'Chin up, love,' but all I could think was, 'I want to punch you!'".
However, after the show Lucie went on to more theatrical success and continued to blossom with coveted roles like Victoria in American Psycho the musical, Maureen in Rent's UK tour, Jenna in Waitress and she dazzled audiences as the charismatic Elle Woods in Legally Blonde.
In 2022, Lucie graced the stage at Victoria's Apollo Theatre as the star of Stephen Schwartz's Wicked. She played Elphaba, the green-skinned protagonist whose destiny is to become the infamous Wicked Witch of the West and is known for her powerhouse vocals
After her time in Wicked, in 2023 she reprised the role of Fantine in the West End production of Les Miserables, before moving on to role of Catherine in the 50th anniversary London concert production of Pippin in 2024. Her next musical theatre role is set to be the lead of 13 going on 30 the musical which is based on the movie of the same name. She will be playing Jenna Rink when the show is set to premiere in September, 2025, at Manchester Opera House.
Before she originates the role of Jenna Rink in 13 going on 30, Lucie has something very exciting in store for her. She will be performing at Glastonbury 2025, at the Astrolabe, the festival's home of theatre, drama, dance, and comedy.

Joined by a band led by the unmatched @jonrangerinsta and guided as always by the best of the best @noisebyjonny I'm there to make some festival history in being the first musical theatre artist ever to perform at the festival."

Lucie continued: "Cannot wait to see the happiest people in the world- the glasto ticket holders- at Astrolabe on Thurs Fri and Sat! Let's all defy gravity in a field together babyyyyyyyyy!!"

Sir Rod Stewart cancels gig hours before he's due on stage due to illness
The Maggie May singer said he isn't feeling well. Sir Rod Stewart has had to cancel his performance tonight just hours before he's set to take to the stage. The 80-year-old singer was due to be gigging at the The Colosseum at Caesars Place but has had to cancel due to being ill. Announcing the news on Instagram, Rod told fans: "I am sorry to inform you that I'm not feeling well and my show tonight at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace is being rescheduled to June 10. Your tickets will be valid for the new date. Sir Rod." This is not the first time Sir Rod has had to cancel his Vegas shows as last summer he was forced to cancel a string of tour dates including his milestone 200th Las Vegas residency show. Rod's team said he had to miss the milestone show due to 'recovering from a summer strain of Covid-19. The Celtic-daft singer was set to bring his The Hits show at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace to a close after performing at the venue across the last 13 years. However, Sir Rod withdrew hours before what was meant to be his last show at the venue, saying he was "desperately sorry". Just last week, Rod made a huge announcement about his Glastonbury performance that he will be joined on stage by his Faces bandmate Ronnie Wood. The rockstar is filling the coveted legends slot at the Worthy Farm festival, with headliners The 1975, Olivia Rodrigo and Neil Young also set to play over the course of the five-day event. Faces, who are best known for hits including Stay With Me, formed in 1969 following the split of Small Faces. The band was made up of bassist Ronnie Lane, keyboard player Ian McLagan, drummer Kenney Jones, Ronnie Wood on guitar and Sir Rod on lead vocals. When asked if he keeps in contact with The Rolling Stones' members and 'other people in music' whilst starring on That Peter Crouch Podcast, Sir Rod replied: "Not really. Woody (Wood) I do a lot, just recently, because we're going to do Glastonbury together. Elton, sometimes, you know, birthdays, but nowhere near how we used to. "I think probably because he doesn't drink anymore, and Woody doesn't drink, and I still do. They stay away from me. Bad influence." He also told the podcast: "I've done it (Glastonbury) before. I did it in 2002 but this is on the legend stage. "I was only supposed to play for an hour and a quarter, but I've asked them 'Please, another 15 minutes' because I play for over two hours every night and it's nothing, but yeah, looking forward to it." Sir Rod's Glastonbury legends slot will kick off at the traditional teatime on Sunday June 29, although the exact time is not confirmed until the complete timetable is officially announced by organiser Emily Eavis,. While the headliners and the majority of performers for this year's festival have now been confirmed, many fans have been left wondering who the secret set might be after Kasabian's memorable appearance last year. Speculated contenders are Mumford & Sons, Green Day, Sam Fender, The Cure and US rockers HAIM, but it's anyone's guess at this stage. Faces released four studio albums and toured regularly up until the band split in 1975 and Sir Rod went on to pursue his successful solo career. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Rod Stewart, 80, cancels gig over ill health after making Glastonbury promise
Sir Rod Stewart has pulled out of his gig tonight hours before he's due on stage. The 80-year-old rocker was due to play The Colosseum at Caesars Place but has had to cancel due to ill health. Taking to Instagram, Rod said: "I am sorry to inform you that I'm not feeling well and my show tonight at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace is being rescheduled to June 10. Your tickets will be valid for the new date. Sir Rod." Last summer, Sir Rod was forced to cancel a string of tour dates including his milestone 200th Las Vegas residency show as he made a sad health admission. Rod's team said they 'regretted to announce' that Rod would have to bow out as he is still 'recovering from a summer strain of Covid-19. T he singer was set to bring his The Hits show at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace to a close after performing at the venue across the last 13 years. However, Sir Rod withdrew hours before what was meant to be his last show at the venue, saying he was "desperately sorry". He added: "Most people can work with strep throat but obviously not me. I'm absolutely gutted. I've been looking forward to this concert for so long. My deepest regrets for any inconvenience this has caused. Thankfully we'll now be returning in 2025 and I hope to see you all there," he vowed. According to the NHS, a strep infection can mean patients having a sore throat, a rash, nausea and vomiting and muscle aches. It is often not a serious illness and can be treated with antibiotics. The star's latest health blow comes after he said he was in the prime of his performing career and couldn't see himself retiring in a brand new interview. Sir Rod also confirmed he will reunite with his former Faces bandmate Ronnie Wood for his set at Glastonbury Festival. The 80-year-old musician is filling the coveted tea-time legends slot at the music event, which is being headlined by British pop/rock band The 1975, folk rock star Neil Young and US pop singer Olivia Rodrigo. Faces, who were known for hits including Stay With Me, formed in 1969 following the split of Small Faces. Bassist Ronnie Lane, keyboard player Ian McLagan and Kenney Jones were joined by Wood on guitar and Sir Rod on lead vocals. Asked if he keeps in touch with The Rolling Stones' members and 'other people in music' while on That Peter Crouch Podcast, Sir Rod said: 'Not really. Woody (Wood) I do a lot, just recently, because we're going to do Glastonbury together. 'Elton, sometimes, you know, birthdays, but nowhere near how we used to, I think probably because he doesn't drink anymore, and Woody doesn't drink, and I still do. They stay away from me. Bad influence.' He also told the podcast: 'I've done it (Glastonbury) before. I did it in 2002 but this is on the legend stage. 'I was only supposed to play for an hour and a quarter, but I've asked them 'Please, another 15 minutes' because I play for over two hours every night and it's nothing, but yeah, looking forward to it.' Faces released four studio albums and toured regularly until 1975, when the band split up and Sir Rod went on to pursue a solo recording career. Earlier in the week the veteran rockstar was presented with a prestigious lifetime achievement award by five of his children at the American Music Awards (AMAs). His best known solo songs include Da Ya Think I'm Sexy?, Every Beat Of My Heart, and Maggie May. In 2024, he promised he would not retire but confirmed his 2025 European and North American shows would bring an end to his 'large-scale world tours', with his next slate to be held at more intimate venues. His latest album, a collaboration with Jools Holland, was released in February 2024 and went to number one on the UK chart.
