Israel conducts fresh airstrikes on Yemeni ports on Red Sea: Houthi TV
Sanaa, May 12 (UNI) The Israeli military launched airstrikes on three ports in western Yemen's Hodeidah province late Sunday, shortly after issuing evacuation warnings, Houthi-run al-Masirah TV reported.
The strikes targeted the ports of Hodeidah, Ras Issa, and As-Salif, all located along the Red Sea. No casualties were reported.
Local residents told Xinhua that Houthi workers had been preparing the ports to receive fuel shipments ahead of the attacks.
Roughly 40 minutes before the strikes, Israel reportedly warned civilians to leave the areas. Earlier in the day, British Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) had also advised vessels to steer clear of waters near Houthi-held ports.
On Friday, the group claimed responsibility for a missile attack on Israel's Ben Gurion Airport, which Israeli officials said was intercepted. The attack came in response to Israeli airstrikes on Tuesday that killed dozens in Sanaa and destroyed the capital's airport, including three commercial aircraft.
Sunday's strikes mark the latest in a series of Israeli attacks on Houthi-controlled ports in recent weeks, amid growing fuel shortages in those areas.
Last week, Oman announced it had brokered a ceasefire agreement between the Houthis and the United States, under which the Houthis agreed to suspend attacks on U.S. vessels in the Red Sea in exchange for a halt to American airstrikes on Houthi positions.

MLC Ravikumar appears before Kalaburagi police over Pak remark
Kalaburagi, June 2 (UNI) BJP MLC and Opposition Chief Whip N. Ravikumar appeared before police in Kalaburagi on Monday in connection with an FIR registered over his controversial remark likening Deputy Commissioner Fouzia Tarannum to Pakistan. The remark, made during a public speech, implied that DC Tarannum 'might have come from Pakistan,' sparking widespread condemnation and leading to legal and political repercussions. The FIR was lodged at the Station Bazar Police Station under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. The Karnataka High Court has taken suo motu cognisance of the matter and on May 29 directed Ravikumar to tender an apology to DC Tarannum, expressing strong disapproval of his comments. Further, the court has ordered the BJP leader to appear before the Kalaburagi police on Monday to cooperate fully in the ongoing investigation. Ravikumar, while appearing for questioning on Sunday, defended his remarks, claiming it was a 'slip of the tongue.' The interrogation lasted over an hour at the Kalaburagi West police station. The Indian Administrative Service (IAS) fraternity across the country has rallied in support of DC Tarannum, condemning the comment as inappropriate and an attack on the dignity of civil servants. The statement drew sharp criticism from political leaders and civil society alike, with opposition parties accusing Ravikumar of communal provocation and demanding strict action. Meanwhile, protests have been held by civil society and minority organisations across Kalaburagi, urging authorities to ensure accountability and maintain communal harmony. The case continues to stir political debate in Karnataka ahead of the upcoming local body elections, with further proceedings expected in the days ahead. UNI BDN GNK

Israel says antisemitic attack in US 'fuelled' by media
Israel says antisemitic attack in US 'fuelled' by media (Image: TOI) JERUSALEM: Israel's top diplomat condemned Monday a weekend attack on demonstrators in the US state of Colorado demanding the release of hostages held in Gaza, alleging it was fuelled by the media. "Shocked by the terrible antisemitic terror attack targeting Jews in Boulder, Colorado," Gideon Saar wrote on X. "This is pure Antisemitism, fueled by the blood libels spread in the media," he added, without elaborating. Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid denounced "another act of antisemitic violence". "We are all horrified by the violent terror attack in Colorado against peaceful protesters who were simply calling for the release of our hostage", he wrote in a post on X. Several people suffered burns and other injuries Sunday in the US state of Colorado in what the FBI called a "targeted terror attack" against demonstrators seeking the release of Israeli hostages held in Gaza. Of the 251 hostages taken during Hamas's October 7, 2023 attack that sparked the ongoing war in Gaza, 57 remain in captivity, including 34 the Israeli military says are dead. Israel has faced growing condemnation over the humanitarian crisis in the war-ravaged Gaza Strip, where the UN has warned the entire population is at risk of famine.
