Tennis legend Martina Navratilova puts politics aside in fight for fairness in women's sports
Tennis legend Martina Navratilova has made clear that her fight to keep women's sports fair is bigger than what side of the aisle she stands on politically.
As Simone Biles went on a personal attack against Riley Gaines in apparent defense of transgender athletes in women's and girls' sports, Navratilova backed the former NCAA All-American on this issue.
"Riley is MAGA and I couldn't disagree with her more on politics but on keeping sports safe and fair for girls and women I agree with her (100%)," Navratilova wrote on X on Saturday. "As most people, Republicans, Democrats and everything in between do also."
Navratilova has made clear in the past she is no supporter of President Donald Trump, and a quick scan of her social media posts would underscore that. However, she has lamented Democrats' inaction over the issue of transgender athletes participating in women's and girls' sports.
When Trump signed an executive order to prohibit biological males from women's and girls' sports, she fired off a fierce message toward the Democratic Party.
"I hate that the Democrats totally failed women and girls on this very clear issue of women's sports being for females only," she wrote in a post on X.
She also expressed her frustration in January when the House of Representatives passed the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act. Only two Democrats voted with Republicans on the bill.
"More Dems need to step up here. I know many who agree but are scared to speak up because of re-election. I say do the right thing. Grow a spine," she wrote on X.
As the conversation around Biles and the OutKick host rages on, Navratilova does not appear to be backing down from her stance.

Cavaliers' Darius Garland has toe surgery, out 4-5 months
Cavaliers guard Darius Garland had surgery Monday on the injured left big toe that hampered him during Cleveland's exit from the playoffs. The Cavaliers said the procedure was performed by Dr. Nicholas Strasser at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee, in consultation with team physician Dr. James Rosneck and Dr. Bob Anderson. The All-Star guard missed the final two games of the regular season and four games during the playoffs with the injury, which was described as a sprain. "Definitely wasn't myself. It was pretty uncomfortable but trying to do everything to win the game. It was frustrating because I wasn't 100 percent," Garland said after the Cavaliers lost to the Indiana Pacers in five games in the Eastern Conference semifinals. Garland is expected to spend 4 to 5 months going through a progression of treatment and rehabilitation before resuming basketball activities by the start of training camp. Garland averaged 20.6 points and 6.7 assists during the regular season to help the Cavs finish atop the Eastern Conference. In just five playoff games, he dropped to 18 points and 5.2 assists per game, and while Cleveland won the two games against the Miami Heat that Garland sat out due to his toe, he also missed two of the four games that the Cavs dropped to the Pacers in the conference semifinals. Mass. Sen. Warren: DOGE accessed ‘sensitive' student loan data at Education Dept., calls for probe
U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren says she wants to know how the quasi-governmental Department of Government Efficiency gained access to 'sensitive' student loan information at the U.S. Department of Education. On Monday, Warren and U.S. Sen. Ed Markey, both Democrats, called for the agency's acting inspector general to find out how that breach happened. They were joined by Democratic senators from eight states, including U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut. Warren said lawmakers learned of the potential breach of systems at Federal Student Aid after DOGE, which was helmed until recently by tech titan Elon Musk, infiltrated the agency. In response, Education Department officials revealed that DOGE workers 'supported' a review of the FSA's contracts. As a part of that review, one employee was granted 'read-only' access to two internal systems that held sensitive personal information about borrowers. The agency said it had since revoked that access. But, according to Warren, it did not explain why that access had been revoked, or whether the employee had continued access to other databases. 'Because of the [Education] department's refusal to provide full and complete information, the full extent of DOGE's role and influence at ED remains unknown,' the lawmakers wrote in a June 8 letter to René L. Rocque, the agency's acting inspector general. That 'lack of clarity is not only frustrating for borrowers but also dangerous for the future of an agency that handles an extensive student loan portfolio and a range of federal aid programs for higher education,' the lawmakers continued. Warren, Markey and their colleagues have called on Roque's office to determine whether the department adhered to the Federal Privacy Act, which dictates how the government can collect and use personal information. They also asked Roque to 'determine the impact of DOGE's new plans to consolidate Americans' personal information across government databases.' On Monday, an ICE spokesperson confirmed that the Italian-Senegalese star had been detained at Las Vegas airport for alleged immigration violations.
