Body 'covered with clumps of maggots' at funeral home as family left horrified

WARNING: GRAPHIC CONTENT - Tabitha Worrell is taking legal action after it is said she was told "don't you make a scene" as employees took her to Torreon Williams' casket.
A mum was disgusted after her son's body was allegedly discovered "covered with clumps of maggots" at a funeral home.
Tabitha Worrell is taking legal action after it is said she was told "don't you make a scene" as employees took her to Torreon Williams' casket.
She allegedly noticed the 24-year-old's body with "particularly his face, nose, and mouth, covered with and consumed by clumps of maggots" at Snelling Funeral Home in Chesapeake, Virginia.
The lawsuit reads: "The maggots had been on and in Torreon Williams' body for a significant period of time and had been purposely ignored on the day of Torreon Williams' service as, in addition to the aforementioned, the maggots had burrowed into holes in his cheek and mouth that had not existed previously and were infested with large clumps of moving and visible maggots.
"Plaintiff (Ms Worrell), her family, and friends experienced shock and horror at the grotesque display of the body of Torreon Williams and plaintiff (Ms Worrell) experienced extreme emotional disturbance."
The family made a $3,000 (£2,200) down payment to the funeral home to handle the arrangements and scheduled a viewing and service. However, as reported by the Mirror, it is alleged "an employee of defendants (Snelling Funeral Home) approached the casket, placed her hands on plaintiff (Ms Worrell) and excleimed, 'don't you make a scene.'"
After the family saw the sight, it is said a male employee tried to justify the disturbance by claiming "flies got to him". The family's lawyer, Kevin Sharp, said the funeral home provided the family with a "grotesque freak show". He told WAVY.com, based in Virginia: "Maggots pouring out of this young man's nose. Maggots in his mouth, and on his face."

Ms Worrall's sister Tiffany Barnhart told the outlet her sibling screamed at the sight. Ms Barnhart added: "She was mortified by the way they reacted. They almost seemed to say, 'You don't overreact here.' You're the one to blame, not what they had done to her son."
Mr Williams, who was a truck driver, "truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures," his obituary reads. These included chatting with friends and family, Youtubing, and spending time with his nephew. It adds: "Torreon had an uncanny ability to reach people profoundly and positively."
The young man died of injuries suffered in a motorbike accident on Monday, May 2, 2022 and, after years of legal wrangling, the family is now finally able to press forward with its lawsuit. Ms Worrall is claiming in the suit the funeral home did not "adequately prepare, preserve and inspect" her son's body before the public viewing.
They also believe that Snelling did not store the body in a sealed refrigeration environment, and it was thus exposed to elements. She is seeking $5,000,000 (£3.6million), as well as costs and fees and all other relief deemed fair. The case - a three-day jury trial - is set for Chesapeake Circuit Court's civil division on July 28.

Huge EastEnders twist as character uncovers a brutal murder

Bernie Taylor (Clair Norris) has opened up about her brother Keanu's (Danny Walters) shocking murder in EastEnders. That's right – we're harking back to Christmas 2023 and the storyline that dominated the next twelve months worth of storylines. If you need a quick refresher, here goes… Kathy Cotton (Gillian Taylforth), Suki Panesar-Unwin (Balvinder Sopal), Linda Carter (Kellie Bright), Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean), Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner) and Denise Fox (Diane Parish) all found themselves complicit in a gruesome death. Linda fatally stabbed Keanu with a meat thermometer as he was throttling Sharon. Just minutes before, Denise had hit Nish over the head with a bottle when he lunged towards Suki. A number of locals then found out, including Linda's son Johnny Carter (Charlie Suff), and twisted Nish Panesar (Navin Chowdhry) eventually took responsibility for the crime in the month prior to his death. One of the last Walford residents to learn the ghastly truth was Bernie, who was horrified to know she'd been working in the cafe just metres from her brother's corpse. Now, ahead of her exit, she's come clean to cousin Felix Baker (Matthew James Morrison) about what happened. It comes as her plot to scam the Panesar family out of thousands was exposed to Vicki Fowler (Alice Haig) in the first of tonight's two instalments. She became desperate for cash herself, and after her suspicions were piqued, she stole Bernie's laptop and uncovered the crime. Bernie agreed to her blackmail deal – half of the money in exchange for her silence. But she knew her time was running out, and urged Felix to start a new life in Spain with her. She also hoped this would influence his future with Johnny. Want to be the first to hear shocking EastEnders spoilers? Who's leaving Coronation Street? The latest gossip from Emmerdale? Felix was stunned by her revelations, but even more so that she would dare mess with the fearsome Panesar clan. Little did he realise, she'd thought up a plan. More Trending Vicki had told her aunt Kathy about her sudden windfall, and she rushed to tell her 'Six' co-conspirator Suki. In turn, Suki told her step-son Ravi Gulati (Aaron Thiara) what was happening and he demanded an audience with Bernie. She sat down, and made a brutal and damning lie – Vicki is the one stealing. Feral teen gang in Scots park 'hurled firework at mums with babies'

Captured by a nearby cafe, the clip shows smoke billowing as visibly alarmed diners turn and look at the area where the firework was thrown. Bystanders have been left terrified after a feral gang of teens allegedly hurled a firework at a group of mums with their babies in a Scots park. Shocking footage shows the moment on June 29 when a firework thrown by youths exploded next to group in Edinburgh's Princes Street Gardens. ‌ Captured by a nearby cafe in the city centre beauty spot, the clip shows smoke billowing as terrified diners turn and look at the area where the missile was thrown, reports Edinburgh Live. ‌ Families can be seen sitting directly adjacent to the impact area and a mother holding her baby is visible as she walks a couple of metres away from where the pyrotechnic device blew up. A post on Reddit, which was apparently written by one of the mums, detailed how the firework could have 'killed' another mum's baby and how her child could have been severely hurt had the firework landed closer to them. An eyewitness called Police Scotland to report the gang of youths allegedly throwing the explosive device at 7.12pm in East Princes Street Gardens on Sunday June 29. "Lots of people were sat in the park as it was nice," he said. "It was very busy, but this teenage gang, there were about 20 or 30 of them, threw a firework into the middle of the flowers by the cafe. "It landed right next to a woman with a baby in the pram. And then there was a lady walking by a few metres away with a baby in her arms. ‌ "Everyone was scared and did not know what happened. Police didn't seem to take any action after it was reported. "These things are happening constantly. Friday, Saturday or Sunday they are coming in by train I think and they drink in the park and nothing is done." Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! A Police Scotland spokesperson said: ' Around 9pm on Sunday, 29 June, 2025, we received a report that youths were throwing fireworks in the Princes Street area of Edinburgh earlier that evening. 'There were no reported injuries. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances.'
