Dubai: Johnson Charles ignited the Dubai International Stadium, leading the Sharjah Warriorz to a resounding nine-wicket victory on Tuesday night. His breathtaking 71 off 33 balls set up a flawless run chase in only 11.5 overs as the Warriorz maintained their undefeated record against the Dubai Capitals in the DP World ILT20.
An impactful show from the spinners including two wickets for 28 runs from Adam Zampa restricted the Dubai Capitals to 131/9. The result gives the Warriorz's net run-rate a significant boost, keeping them firmly in the fray for a playoff berth.
The powerplay made the chase a mere formality as Johnson Charles and Tom Kohler-Cadmore dominated the bowling to set the highest powerplay score of the season. Charles brought up his fifty in 21 balls, studded with six sixes and two fours. He continued his rampage until he was halted by Sikandar Raza in the 11th over. Charles departed after striking three fours and eight sixes, which included a combination of power hitting, deft touches and switch-hits.
Tom Kohler-Cadmore wrapped up proceedings in the next over with a clever boundary off Dushmantha Chameera. The Englishman finished with 54 runs in 32 balls, smashing eight fours and two sixes on his way there.
Charles, who won the Player of the Match award, said: 'They got off to a bit of a flyer, but I love playing in Dubai because the conditions tend to get a bit skiddier, which suits my style. I thought Ashton Agar and Rohan Mustafa bowled exceptionally well and complemented each other perfectly. We managed to put the opposition under pressure. Ash and I have played a lot together in the past, and it's always a pleasure to play alongside him. It felt almost nostalgic since we haven't had many opportunities to play together recently.' Earlier in the day, Adam Rossington bludgeoned a six and two fours as the powerplay saw 55 runs for the Capitals. Shai Hope played second fiddle to Rossington until the latter was accounted for by Adam Zampa in the seventh over for 37 runs in 23 balls.
Dubai Capitals captain, Raza said: 'I thought we were traditional in our batting. We needed more sweeps, reverse sweeps and switch hits. We went into a shell rather than being aggressive. Johnson is a fantastic player and done that to many teams; it was quite hard to bowl at him. He played a lot of great shots. One bad game is not going to derail us. We will try to get this game out of system and winning the next two is the target.'

All-rounders Brendon McMullen of Scotland and Milind Kumar of the United States have been recognized for their impressive performances in One Day Internationals (ODIs). Additionally, the United Arab Emirates opener Muhammad Waseem makes it to the shortlist due to his exceptional batting form in both ODIs and T20Is. For the women's shortlist, Hayley Matthews of the West Indies has earned recognition for her outstanding all-round performances in ODIs and T20Is during the month. She is joined by all-rounder Chloe Tryon of South Africa and batter Jemimah Rodrigues of India, both of whom have demonstrated strong performances in ODIs. An independent ICC Voting Academy* and fans around the world will now be invited to cast their votes to decide the winners. Fans are now able to vote for their favourite performers at ICC Men's Player of the Month Nominees for May 2025 MEN: Brendon McMullen (Scotland) The 25-year-old has made the cut after aggregating 233 runs and finishing with 10 wickets in five ODIs. A string of fine performances in the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup League 2 including two half-centuries against the UAE and a Player of the Match effort of 101 off 88 deliveries and four for 55 against the Netherlands at Utrecht brought him into contention for the award. Milind Kumar (USA) The off-spinning all-rounder scored 201 runs in four ODIs at an impressive strike-rate of 116.86 and also picked nine wickets to be shortlisted for the award. His standout performance was a blistering 115 not out off just 67 deliveries against Canada in an ICC Men's Cricket World Cup League 2 match in Lauderhill. He became the first player from the USA to score a fifty and take five wickets in the same ODI, when he did so against Oman. Muhammad Waseem (UAE) Muhammad Waseem showed his worth in both ODIs and T20Is during this period. He scored 169 runs in five ODIs playing as a middle-order batter in the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup League 2 matches and was then named Player of the Series as the UAE defeated Bangladesh 2-1 in a T20I series played in Sharjah. Leading the team and opening the batting, he scored 54 and 82 in the first two matches of the series. WOMEN: Hayley Matthews (WI) The West Indies captain, presently ranked as the No.1 all-rounder in T20Is and second in ODIs, showed why she continues to be at the top of the ICC player rankings. The three-time winner of the monthly award scored 48 runs and took two wickets in the first ODI against England at Derby after being named the Player of the Series in a preceding three-match T20I series, topping the run aggregate with 177 runs with a strike-rate of over 137, and also grabbed three wickets. Chloe Tryon (SA) The South Africa all-rounder scored 176 runs at a strike-rate of 131.34 in three ODIs and took six wickets in the Sri Lanka tri-series in Colombo also featuring India. She scored 67 against India and had scores of 35 and 74 against the hosts. Her left-arm spin bowling was in the spotlight as she grabbed five for 34 against Sri Lanka including a hat-trick. Jemimah Rodrigues (Ind) The 24-year-old from Mumbai amassed 204 runs in three matches of the tri-series in Sri Lanka, including a useful 44 in the final against the hosts. Her 123 from 101 balls against South Africa was the highlight during this period as she played a big role in India winning the thee-team tournament. The ICC Player of the Month Voting Process: The three nominees for either category are shortlisted based on performances from the first to the last day of each calendar month. The shortlist is then voted on by the independent ICC Voting Academy* and fans around the world. The ICC Voting Academy comprises prominent members of the cricket fraternity including well-known journalists, former players, broadcasters and members of the ICC Hall of Fame. The Voting Academy submit their votes by email and hold a 90 per cent share of the vote. Fans registered with the ICC can vote via the ICC website, accounting for the remaining 10 per cent. Winners are announced every second week of the month on ICC's digital channels. England's stellar cast scale maiden milestones in WI win
Coming on the back of a comprehensive T20I series sweep against the West Indies, England registered another impactful performance with a 108-run win against the same opponents in the opening ODI. Among the key performers for the hosts were the opening duo of Tammy Beaumont and Amy Jones, who scored scintillating tons, and ODI debutant Linsey Smith, returning with a five-wicket haul. Jones, who was opening for England in the ODIs for the first time since 2019, added 222 runs with Beaumont for the first wicket. The seasoned campaigner with 98 ODI appearances went on to score her first century in the format, scoring 122 runs off 121 deliveries and was named the Player of the Match. "It's pretty special. I've played a fair few games now without one so to tick that off is a brilliant feeling," Jones told Sky Sports. "I was so excited when Lottie (head coach Charlotte Edwards) first had that thought and shared with me that opening could be an option. "I've obviously done it in the past - while Lottie was in the team, in fact - and so it has come full circle. To have her backing and have that partnership with Tammy, it means a lot." Rohit scores 81 as Mumbai eliminate Gujarat to keep IPL final hopes alive
Rohit Sharma's 81, coupled with the experience of bowlers Trent Boult (2-56) and Jasprit Bumrah (1-27) proved pivotal for Mumbai Indians claiming a spot in Qualifier 2, with a 20-run win over Gujarat Titans in Eliminator match of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on Friday. In their chase of 229, Gujarat Titans scored 208/6 in 20 overs at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh. With no Jos Buttler in the batting order, Shubman Gill (1) really needed to fire but fell to Boult's opening spell. With a massive chase ahead, the Kiwi pacer caught Gill plumb in front, which was confirmed after an unsuccessful review by GT, to start on the right foot. After a fiery opening two overs by Boult and Bumrah, Sudharsan and Kusal Mendis (20) began to shift gears and started an onslaught of their own. Sudarsan began proceedings by flicking Boult for six before Mendis, replacing Buttler, struck the left-arm pacer for consecutive maximums. The left-handed opener displayed an array of shots and carved the Mumbai pace attack through the gaps to all parts of the ground. Hardik Pandya decided to bowl for the first time in the power-play but was hit for three boundaries. Mendis found himself in no-man's land on the final ball of the power-play, after a mix-up while running, but Raj Bawa missed the stumps as GT reached 66/1, with the fielding restrictions being lifted. However, Mendis' horror night, despite a solid batting innings, which began with him dropping two catches, ended with him hitting his stumps. The Sri Lanka batter attempted to sweep Mitchell Santner, but his leg slipped and he knocked over his stumps. Sudharsan raised his sixth half-century of the season in 28 deliveries, and crossed the 700-run mark for the season, while Washington Sundar (48) settled into the crease. Despite the fall in wickets, Gujarat's run rate continued to match the high requirement. Sundar began to ramp up his innings with a four and a six off Pandya, both off low full-toss deliveries, before smashing consecutive sixes in an 18-run Trent Boult over. With Gujarat nearing the 150 mark in 13 overs, Hardik needed his most trusted bowler to end the partnership, which was approaching the 100-run mark, and Bumrah did it in typical fashion. The pacer bowled a scintillating yorker, which Sundar had no answer to. The ball castled into stumps, leaving the all-rounder on the floor. Sherfane Rutherford (24) began with a bang and struck three boundaries before Gleeson ended Sudharsan's night. The Englishman, who replaced Corbin Bosch, claimed the important wicket of Sudharsan, who was bowled over by a yorker while attempting a scoop shot. Ashwani Kumar and Bumrah restricted boundaries to a minimum, with nine runs each coming off the subsequent overs, with Rahul Tewatia (16) claiming a towering maximum over the latter. With the pressure rising and 36 needed off 12, Boult served it right in the slot, but Rutherford, connecting with the toe end of the bat, holed it straight to Tilak Varma at deep mid-wicket. With 30 needed off seven, it seemed the result was certain before Shahrukh Khan (13) struck a massive six off the Kiwi to revive the crowd. Gleeson was trusted with the final six deliveries, but he cramped up while running in and was only able to bowl three, in which he conceded as many runs. Ashwani Kumar finished the remaining spell, whilst also dismissing Shahrukh to seal the 20-run victory. After surprisingly opting to bat first, Rohit and Jonny Bairstow (47) set the platform as Mumbai Indians posted a massive total of 228/5 in 20 overs. Rohit's innings, which showcased his brute force and ability to cross the boundary at ease, was laced with nine boundaries and four sixes. However, it was not a perfect one as the former India skipper was dropped twice on the day, in what can only be described as a poor outing for the 2022 winners in the field. His first lifeline came when he was batting on three runs. Rohit pulled towards Gerald Coetzee in the deep, which the Proteas player fumbled through his hands. In the very next over, Rohit showed why Gujarat can't afford to give him a lifeline as he struck Mohammed Siraj for consecutive boundaries.
