Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has welcomed the Election Commission's decision for sharing with the Congress the electoral roll data of the Haryana and Maharashtra elections from 2009 to 2024 and he wanted to know when it would be done.Tweeting the copy of the exclusive ET report of last Sunday about the EC decision, Gandhi stated on X: "Good first step taken by EC to hand over voter rolls. Can the EC please announce the exact date by which this data will be handed over in a digital, machine-readable format?" His comments came within days after he renewed his attack on the poll body by again alleging irregularities in the electoral roll and voter turnout in the assembly elections in Maharashtra last year. The ET report said the Election Commission has cleared the way for sharing electoral roll data for Haryana and Maharashtra from 2009 to 2024, following an assurance it gave to the Delhi High Court earlier this year and that last week, the Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) of both the states passed orders allowing Congress leaders to obtain electoral roll data from the relevant district and election officers.Like in the case of the Maharashtra elections, the Congress leadership had also raised some allegations after the Haryana assembly elections, including about the electoral rolls and about the functioning of the EVMs. The Congress lost to the BJP and allies in the assembly elections in both these states.

Byadagi chilli market faces poor road conditions despite high revenue
Haveri: Byadagi, home to a prominent international chilli market, struggles with substandard roads unfit even for a walk. Despite generating an annual turnover above Rs 3,000 crore and being Asia's second-largest market, an 800-metre stretch of the town's main thoroughfare contains over 300 large potholes. The road connecting Pandurang Movie Theatre to SJJM School has irked local residents and motorists due to its bad condition. The market serves as a vital employment hub, supporting 8,000 individuals directly and indirectly, while generating substantial tax revenue. Nevertheless, consecutive govts have failed to deliver essential infrastructure, especially adequate roadways. Town residents have launched more than 100 protests advocating for the expansion and improvement of Byadagi's main road, highlighting the deplorable road conditions to officials. Despite legal challenges and substantial market profits, both Congress and the BJP administrations overlooked basic infrastructure needs. A fresh indefinite protest movement has commenced, with demonstrators determined to achieve a resolution. Monday marked the fifth day of successful protests, garnering support from various organisations. DC Vijay Mahantesh Danammanavar and SP Anshu Kumar visited to negotiate with protesters, who remained unconvinced. Demonstrators expressed their frustration by conducting a buffalo-showering demonstration to protest the delayed road development. "The town has been witnessing more than 500 goods vehicles twice every week during chilli season. These are across the state and Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and other states for chilli business purposes. The market has more than Rs 3,000 crore turnover every year, but we did not succeed in getting better roads in Byadagi town even after 10 years of continuous struggle. Some people who are against development are using the legal fight as a hurdle to widening this main road," expressed Kiran Kumar ML, a businessman in Byadagi. Shivanand Mallanagoudra, another local businessman, expressed disappointment that despite numerous demonstrations, proper infrastructure remains elusive. The govt's failure to address road widening requests persists as a longstanding grievance. Additionally, numerous town roads remain in poor condition, with ongoing UGD works spanning five years. Commuters face difficulties in reaching destinations, while heavy traffic on deteriorating roads poses problems. The decade-long struggle has left business owners disheartened. Quote As the Byadagi main road issue is currently before high court, legal proceedings are expected to take a minimum of four months to resolve. Considering this timeline, I have appealed to the demonstrators to cease their protest activities and collaborate with the district authorities to facilitate the road development project -Vijay Mahantesh Danammanavar, Haveri DC

BJP silent over Vijay Bainsla's open challenge
1 2 Jaipur: State BJP 's continued silence over Vijay Bainsla, president of Gurjar Arakshan Sangharsh Samiti and a party member, has raised serious questions about internal discipline and leadership authority in the party ranks. Bainsla successfully pressured the BJP-led state govt by threatening a major stir if the demand for 5% reservation for Most Backward Classes (MBC) was not included in the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution. While the govt appeared to soften its stance under pressure, the party leadership neither condemned nor commented on Bainsla's confrontational posture. This move was interpreted by political observers as a crack in the BJP's disciplinary framework. Bainsla, who contested and lost the 2023 Assembly elections from Deoli-Uniara to Congress candidate Harish Meena, was reportedly sidelined within the party since then. Party insiders say he was not given space to raise community demands and was denied a ticket in the Deoli-Uniara bypolls in Nov 2024, fuelling his frustration and pushing him to take an aggressive stance to regain his position in the community. "The party didn't want to open a new front in the form of Bainsla, especially at a time when it is already struggling to manage cabinet minister Kirori Lal Meena," said a senior party leader, on condition of anonymity. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo Another senior BJP leader acknowledged that Bainsla commands considerable support among the Gujjar community, particularly on the reservation issue. "Being the son of the late Kirori Singh Bainsla, a towering figure in the Gurjar movement, he carries significant influence. During Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra, Bainsla's threat to oppose the march forced the Congress into damage control, resulting in formation of a four-member cabinet committee. That incident clearly established his clout," the leader said. Kirori Singh Bainsla was the leading face of the Gurjar reservation movement in Rajasthan since its inception in 2004. Vijay Bainsla was swiftly inducted into the BJP, with hopes that he would swing the Gurjar vote base, which heavily tilted toward the Congress in the 2018 elections—attracted by speculation over Sachin Pilot's potential elevation to chief minister. However, Bainsla's defeat in the 2023 Assembly elections led to his political marginalisation. However, his recent political revival through the Gurjar Mahapanchayat in Pilupura, which saw participation from Gurjars across Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, and Delhi, has repositioned him at the centre of the community's politics. Speaking to TOI, Bainsla said, "I am very much part of the BJP, but I also carry the responsibility to pursue the long-pending promises made to the Gurjar community by successive govts." Refusing to call his latest moves a rebellion, he added, "This is a 'wait and watch' phase — let's see how the govt responds."
