CM, Dutch envoy discuss trade, investment matters
LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif met the Ambassador of Netherlands to Pakistan, Henny de Vries and discussed matters pertaining to bilateral relations, trade, investment, promotion of sports and welfare of the youth.
Renowned Dutch hockey legend Floris Jan Bovelander and Pakistani footballer Kayanat Bokhari also participated. The two leaders held a special discussion on the promotion of sports and establishment of people-to-people contacts through it.
The chief minister appreciated the warm welcome accorded to the famed Dutch hockey legend Floris Jan Bovelander and Pakistani-origin Dutch footballer Kayanat Bokhari. She said that Pakistan and Netherlands hold a long-standing cordial relations adding that Pakistan-Netherlands bilateral relations have further deepened and expanded over the passage of time. She maintained that the presence of Dutch hockey legend is highly encouraging for the talented youth of Punjab.
The chief minister said, 'Historically, Pakistan-Netherlands relations have led to a significant growth in the areas of trade, agriculture, education and capacity-building. We will further strengthen mutual cooperation in all fields including political, economic, cultural and sports. It is gratifying that the bilateral trade volume between the two countries has reached $2.3 billion. There is a vast potential for promoting economic cooperation between Pakistan and Netherlands.'
The chief minister said, 'Sports like hockey and cricket can become a source of common passion between Pakistan and Netherlands. Floris Jan Bovelander's working with the young players in Lahore will further strengthen our national sports hockey. Kayanat Bokhari has been declared as a role model for the youth female sportsperson. As the first female Chief Minister, promoting women's participation and empowerment is my foremost priority.'
She added, 'By launching 'Khelta Punjab' programme, the Punjab government is promoting sports facilities at the district, tehsil and village levels. The youth are being made part of positive healthy activities across Punjab.'

MD SEF urges partners to boost implementation, equity in education
HYDERABAD: In line with the visionary leadership of the Chief Minister Sindh, Chief Secretary Sindh, and Minister for Education Sindh, the Sindh Education Foundation the Sindh Education Foundation (SEF) Government of Sindh organized a Regional Partners' Conference at Jamshoro, bringing together more than 250 school partners from Hyderabad Region. The event aimed to strengthen collaboration and align educational efforts with the evolving needs of students in underserved regions. The conference was presided over by Managing Director SEF, Gahanwer Ali Laghari, who reiterated SEF's commitment to ensuring both access to education and its quality. In his keynote address, the Managing Director, Gahanwer Ali Laghari emphasized the importance of engaging with all partners from the Hyderabad region who are operating SEF's formal and non-formal educational institutions. He praised their unwavering commitment to providing free and quality education, recognizing it as a commendable effort. And also thanked to VC LUMHS and their management for their support. He stated that this noble cause not only grants children in Sindh access to education but also contributes to broader avenues of sustainable development, aligning with global objectives. Acknowledging that there is always room for improvement, he urged all partners to fully implement the commitments made with the Government of Sindh and SEF. 'You must create an environment where children are happy to come to school,' he stressed. When partners requested to Managing Director to please bring the matter of subsidy to classify the per-child subsidy based on the geographical challenges of the schools. 'There should be a clear distinction between subsidies for schools operating in remote, hard-to-reach areas such as the deserts of Tharparkar, Johi, or Kachho, and those operating in urban areas,' and Managing Director assured them that he will bring this proposal to the concerned. The conference concluded with a strong message of transformational partnership, aiming to move beyond conventional education and prepare students for a future shaped by technology, innovation, and values. LCCI, PPH agree to enhance bilateral trade with African countries
LAHORE: The Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry and Pakistan Products House have signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at enhancing bilateral trade, industrial collaboration economic cooperation between Pakistan and African countries. The MoU was formally signed by LCCI President Mian Abuzar Shad and Managing Director of Pakistan Products House Shahid Sajjad Hussain. LCCI Executive Committee Members Khuram Lodhi and Ahsan Shahid were also present on the occasion. Under the agreement, both organizations will work together to strengthen business-to-business cooperation and expand economic linkages based on mutual interests. The MoU also outlines the exchange of business reports, research studies, market surveys, magazines, newsletters other trade-related information to enhance mutual understanding of market dynamics and policy frameworks. The two sides have agreed to jointly organize B2B meetings, trade exhibitions, seminars, conferences other trade-related events to build strong connections between the business communities of Pakistan and Africa.
