Glasgow mum who lost leg in Clydebank BMW hit-and-run crash settles £1m legal action against driver
A mum-of-one who lost her leg in a hit-and-run crash has settled a £1m legal action against the driver.
Kerrie Lavery, 26, suffered the life-changing injury when Thomas Granger struck her with a BMW while she was on her way home from a mental health charity event in October 2021.
A court heard Granger was travelling at about 80mph, double the limit, when the collision occurred at a pedestrian crossing near Clydebank in West Dunbartonshire.
Alanah Boyle, who was also mowed down, suffered an injury to her pelvis, elbow, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Granger admitted causing serious injury by dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of an accident.
In May 2024, he was jailed for 33 months and banned from driving for seven years.
Ms Lavery, from Drumchapel in , last year , which was raised at the Court of Session.
At the time, it was understood the £1m legal action sought to cover the cost of prosthetics for the rest of Ms Lavery's life, as well as compensation for the impact on her life, including lost earnings.
In an update on Wednesday, Ms Lavery's lawyers confirmed the action had now been successfully settled.
Chris Stewart, partner at Digby Brown Solicitors, said: "What happened to Kerrie was agonising and life-changing and something no young mother should have to endure.
"I can't comment on specifics around the civil claim, but I can confirm the action has now [been] settled which means Kerrie can access the best possible medical treatment for the rest of her life as well as secure her financial future after the crash impacted her ability to work.
"Kerrie has already proven her strength and determination throughout her recovery - from physios to prosecution hearings to simply staying upbeat for her wee boy.
"Of course, there are hard days, but I know she also has a positive and tight-knit network of friends and family who offer support.
"I hope that Kerrie, Alanah and their families may now have the means to move forward into the peaceful and positive future they deserve."

Man dies in single vehicle crash
A man in his twenties has died after a crash on the A1 in North Yorkshire on Thursday evening. Coroner ID's man killed in suspected DUI crash on Union Avenue
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The Kern County Coroner's Office identified a man who was killed in a suspected DUI crash on Union Avenue Tuesday night. Coroner officials said Randy Jason Munoz-Cruz, 27, of Porterville was the driver of a Dodge Charger that was involved in a crash with a white BMW who allegedly ran a red light. The crash was reported in the area of Union and East California avenues around 11:34 p.m. on Tuesday. Munoz-Cruz was taken to Kern Medical where he was pronounced dead, according to officials. The driver of the white BMW has been identified as Nathon Michael Ramirez, 19. Speed and DUI are believed to be factors for Ramirez. BPD told 17 News, it is believed Munoz-Cruz was neither speeding or impaired. An autopsy will be completed to determine the cause and manner of his death. Senior pedestrian, moped rider killed in separate NYC crashes in 24 hours
A 74-year-old pedestrian and a 42-year-old man riding a moped were killed by cars during separate back-to-back crashes in the city within 24 hours, officials said Friday. Victim Eric Wexler was crossing the corner of 217 St. and Northern Blvd. in Cambria Heights about 10 p.m. on Wednesday when a 2017 Chevy Tahoe driven by a 47-year-old man heading east on Northern Blvd. rammed into him, cops said. Wexler suffered massive injuries to his head and body and was rushed to North Shore Manhasset Hospital, where he died. The victim was not in the crosswalk and was crossing against the light when he was hit, cops said. The 47-year-old motorist remained on the scene. No charges were immediately filed. The Chevy Tahoe involved in the crash had racked up six speeding and one red light violation, according to although it wasn't clear if the 47-year-old driver was behind the wheel at those times. Wexler lives in Glen Oaks, Queens, and lived about four miles from where he died. Less than a day later, in Brooklyn, 42-year-old Rino El-Saieh was struck by a 2018 BMW at about 8:30 p.m. Thursday as he tried to make a left turn from E. 2nd St. onto Avenue P in Midwood, cops said. The 17-year-old BMW driver was heading west on Avenue P when he struck El-Saieh as he made the turn. The BMW veered out of control upon hitting the moped and slammed into a parked Ford van and a Hyundai Elantra, cops said. Medics rushed El-Saieh to Maimonides Medical Center, but he couldn't be saved. No other injuries were reported. The teen driver remained at the scene and hasn't been charged, cops said. El-Saieh lived in East New York, Brooklyn, officials said.
