Ukrainian delegation arrives in Turkey for peace talks

Al Bawaba2 days ago

ALBAWABA - A Ukrainian foreign ministry spokesperson said that the Kyiv delegation arrived in Istanbul for peace talks with the Russian officials, AFP reported on Monday.
The discussions are scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m. (1000 GMT).
The talks are one day after Kyiv forces' strongest attacks against Russia, as Ukraine claims to have destroyed over 40 Russian bomber planes at several military airbases, the BBC reported.
Ukraine informed the American administration before carrying out the attack, a Ukrainian official said, as reported by Axios.
Today, a brilliant operation was carried out — on enemy territory, targeting only military objectives, specifically the equipment used to strike Ukraine. Russia suffered significant losses — entirely justified and deserved. — Volodymyr Zelenskyy / Володимир Зеленський (@ZelenskyyUa) June 1, 2025
Among the planes targeted were allegedly high-value bombers, including the Tu-95, Tu-22M3, and the A-50 plane.
Ukraine's President said on X: "Today, a brilliant operation was carried out — on enemy territory, targeting only military objectives, specifically the equipment used to strike Ukraine. Russia suffered significant losses — entirely justified and deserved."
"In total, 117 drones were used in the operation with a corresponding number of drone operators involved. 34% of the strategic cruise missile carriers stationed at air bases were hit. Our people operated across several Russian regions — in three different time zones. And the people who assisted us were withdrawn from Russian territory before the operation, they are now safe," he added.

Video: PSG's Hakimi gives Brigitte Macron an awkward look

Published June 3rd, 2025 - 12:23 GMT ALBAWABA - Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) star Achraf Hakimi recently went viral on social media after a video revealed him giving Brigitte Macron an odd and awkward look during a meet-up that celebrated the football team's victory against Inter Milan in the Champions League finale. PSG won against Inter Milan 5-0 at the UEFA Champions League Final on May 31, 2025, sparking widespread celebrations on social media and in Paris' streets. Hakimi contributed to one goal out of the five scored in Milan's net. Several social media users noticed Hakimi's observatory look, alongside his teammate Lucas Hernández, who appeared visibly uncomfortable and confused. This may have stemmed from recent media coverage and controversy surrounding Brigitte Macron's appearance and identity. Recent rumors and investigations from the media claimed that Brigitte Macron is a transgener who was born a man with childhood photos as "evidence." The alleged photos were first shared by a French magazine, but quickly flooded social media with claims and reports. — Camille Moscow 🇷🇺 🌿 ☦️ (@camille_moscow) June 2, 2025 However, many reported on social media that the boy in the photos was not Brigitte Macron but "her brother, Jean-Michel Trogneux, from 1953, 1954, and 1955." The ongoing rumors were recently reignited by American far-right political commentator Candace Owens, who claimed that French President Emannuel Macron and his wife Brigitte sent her a "legal threat" to prevent her from speaking further about the matter in question. The rumors first occurred when two women (Amandine Roy and Natacha Rey) went on YouTube claiming that Brigitte was born in 1953 as a boy under the name "Jean-Michel Trogneux." They were later targeted in a defamation lawsuit and persecuted by a court in Normandy city. Emmanuel Macron has constantly denied the allegations mentioned above across the years, describing them as "false" and "fabricated lies." © 2000 - 2025 Al Bawaba (

Video: Ukraine blows up Kerch bridge in Crimea

Published June 3rd, 2025 - 12:29 GMT ALBAWABA - Ukraine has blown up the Kerch bridge in the Crimea region, a video released by Ukraine's Security Service was shared on social media on Tuesday. Kyiv used underwater explosives to carry out the attack. According to the Euro News website, the Kerch bridge was "illegally" constructed by Russia following the unilateral annexation of the Ukrainian peninsula. Media reports revealed that the Kerch bridge in Crimea is considered a main bridge made by Russia after its unilateral annexation of the Ukrainian peninsula back in 2014. Holy shit Ukraine's SBU security service behind the audacious drone attack deep inside Russia now says it has attacked the Kerch bridge in occupied Crimea in a months-long operation. It says SBU agents "mined the supports" of the bridge with 1,100kg of TNT under the water line… — Saint Javelin (@saintjavelin) June 3, 2025 According to Ukrainian media, planning the bridge operation took months. In the official statement on Telegram, the SBU said: "The operation lasted for several months. SBU agents mined the supports of this illegal construction." It added: "Without inflicting any civilian casualties, the first explosive was activated at 4:44 a.m." © 2000 - 2025 Al Bawaba (

Russia and Ukraine take tentative steps toward peace in Istanbul talks

Published June 2nd, 2025 - 05:39 GMT The proposal also focuses on the sick, the wounded, and young soldiers aged 18 to 25. A major exchange involving 6,000 prisoners is reportedly under negotiation. ALBAWABA- In Istanbul, a new round of Russian-Ukrainian peace talks, mediated by Turkey, has introduced cautious but potentially meaningful humanitarian measures, with negotiators emphasizing the urgent need for sustainable peace. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan opened the tripartite meeting between Ankara, Moscow, and Kyiv, describing the primary objective as strengthening prospects for a ceasefire and preparing for eventual leadership-level discussions. — Anadolu العربية (@aa_arabic) June 2, 2025 The meeting focused on assessing current conditions, enhancing the prisoner exchange process, and laying the groundwork for a future summit between the Russian and Ukrainian heads of state. Ukrainian Defense Minister and chief negotiator Rustem Umerov stressed that resolving the core disputes would ultimately require direct dialogue between Presidents Zelensky and Putin. He revealed that Ukraine had recently shared a draft memorandum to end the conflict but had not received a response from Moscow. During the session, the Russian delegation presented a formal document outlining a proposed ceasefire and broader roadmap for peace. Umerov said Kyiv would need about a week to evaluate the Russian offer. He emphasized Ukraine's humanitarian priorities, particularly the return of all Ukrainian prisoners, including children. The proposal also focuses on the sick, the wounded, and young soldiers aged 18 to 25. A major exchange involving 6,000 prisoners is reportedly under negotiation. Ukraine has suggested holding a follow-up meeting between June 20 and 30. Turkish Foreign Ministry spokesperson Oncu Keçeli commented that the talks, although brief, ended without adverse outcomes, a sign of sustained diplomatic engagement. Russian chief negotiator Vladimir Medinsky confirmed that the ceasefire proposal, which was delivered via Turkish mediation, consists of two parts. The first outlines Russia's long-term peace vision, while the second presents options for implementing a full ceasefire. Although the content remains undisclosed officially, Russian media reports indicate the memorandum calls for national elections in Ukraine, withdrawal of Ukrainian forces from contested regions, recognition of Russian sovereignty over several territories, including Crimea and Kharkiv, and a commitment to Ukrainian neutrality, as reported by Al Arabiya. Also Read Ukraine launches major drone strike on Russian strategic airbase The plan also includes restrictions on foreign military activity in Ukraine, a return to economic cooperation (notably in gas transit), and the lifting of sanctions on Russia. Ukraine, however, insists on an unconditional 30-day ceasefire before progressing to deeper negotiations. Meanwhile, a separate humanitarian effort is underway: a short truce of 2–3 days is being discussed to retrieve the bodies of 6,000 fallen soldiers. Russia has also received a list of 339 children whose return Ukraine is demanding, and Medinsky confirmed those cases are currently being reviewed for potential reunification with their families. The talks concluded after approximately one hour. Though no formal agreement was reached, both sides acknowledged the value of continued dialogue. © 2000 - 2025 Al Bawaba (
