Over the last few weeks, the Texas Longhorns have been one of the busiest programs in the transfer portal. After falling two wins short of a national title, they have improved their depth for another deep playoff run. More help could be on the horizon as they have been connected to former BYU wide receiver Keelan Marion.
In 42 career games, Marion has hauled in 76 catches for 1,125 yards and seven touchdowns. He has also gotten some chances in the running game, recording 136 yards on 30 carries. While his ability to impact a game in multiple ways makes him an exciting player, where he has shined is as a kick returner.
During the 2024 campaign, the Grayson High School product returned 18 kickoffs for 472 yards and two touchdowns. He was one of only five players in FBS with at least two kickoff return touchdowns. In his final year with BYU, his 26.2 yards per kickoff return led the Big 12.
Due to his play, Marion has been a popular name in the transfer portal. He has heard from 19 programs, including Miami, Notre Dame, Colorado, Penn State, Texas, and USC. With no deadline set for a decision, the number could grow until he picks the program he thinks can maximize his talents.
If Marion were to pick the Longhorns, he would join a talented transfer class. Texas has also added Jack Endries, Mason Shipley, Brad Spence, Cole Brevard, Travis Shaw, and Lavon Johnson. That group should help replace a veteran core that made its mark in Austin.
In Marion, an offense will be getting at a talented player with two years of eligibility remaining. That will allow him to grow into a program and be a multi-year starter. He would also be a significant upgrade to the kicking game for Texas. The Longhorns' goal now is to give Marion an offer he can't refuse.

Jonnu Smith, Jalen Ramsey Absent From Dolphins Minicamp Amid Trade Buzz
Miami Dolphins tight end Jonnu Smith (9) runs a route against the Houston Texans in the second half of an NFL football game, Sunday, Dec 15, 2024 in Houston. (AP Photo/Maria Lysaker) The Pittsburgh Steelers are keeping their eyes on the Miami Dolphins, who have two star players absent from mandatory minicamp. The Miami Dolphins were without two key veterans on the first day of mandatory minicamp, as tight end Jonnu Smith and cornerback Jalen Ramsey were both no-shows. That has only further fueled the trade speculation involving the Pittsburgh Steelers. Advertisement Smith's absence is reportedly contract-related. After a career-best season in 2024, where he recorded 88 receptions for 884 yards and set the Dolphins' single-season record for catches by a tight end, the 29-year-old is seeking a new deal. Last offseason, he signed a two-year, $4 million contract that now looks like a major bargain given his production and impact in Mike McDaniel's offense. As the situation drags on without a resolution, Smith remains a name to watch, especially for the Steelers, who have been consistently linked to him in recent months. On the surface, tight end isn't a glaring need in Pittsburgh. The Steelers already feature a solid duo in Pat Freiermuth and Darnell Washington. However, offensive coordinator Arthur Smith has long favored heavy tight end personnel, and Smith is already familiar with his system, having played under him in both Tennessee and Atlanta. The 30-year-old cornerback is entering his 10th NFL season and remains one of the league's premier defensive backs. A seven-time Pro Bowler and three-time First-Team All-Pro, Ramsey is still under contract through 2028 on a deal worth $72 million. Advertisement A potential Steelers secondary featuring Ramsey, Joey Porter Jr., and Darius Slay would be among the most talented in the league, offering head coach Mike Tomlin a rare combination of experience and youth on the back end. However, such a move would likely require cap gymnastics and could complicate contract discussions with other stars, namely All-Pro pass rusher T.J. Watt, who is still awaiting a contract extension. While the Steelers have more pressing roster needs and contractual priorities, the idea of landing both Smith and Ramsey isn't out of the realm of possibility. If Pittsburgh believes it is in a win-now window, these two veterans could be difference-makers in a wide-open AFC North.
