'Operation Abhyaas': Multi-agency mock drill conducted at Kalaburagi High Court
Kalaburagi (Karnataka) [India], May 17 (ANI): As part of the statewide emergency preparedness initiative 'Operation Abhyaas', a mock drill was conducted at the Kalaburagi Bench of the Karnataka High Court on Saturday.
District Magistrate Fouzia Taranum said the exercise was aimed at enhancing coordination among key departments in handling crisis situations.
'As part of Operation Abhyaas, all district administrations have geared up for mock drills in their districts. In Kalaburagi, we have already completed the mock drill at the airport. Today, we conducted the mock drill at the High Court, where Justice Indresh also took part with us,' she said.
The mock drill witnessed the active participation of the Bar Association, police, revenue department, KSISF, fire department, health department, and other key departments, along with non-governmental organisations like the Red Cross, NSS, and NCC.
'Everyone came together for one demonstration involving a bomb scenario, an air explosive scenario, and a rescue and evacuation scenario. These scenarios were carried out very well, in cooperation with the local public as well as the High Court staff.'
'This projected the strength of all 12 departments working in coordination during any situation where we must act together as part of the district administration against external forces or any threatening situation. This demonstration has been very successful. We thank the High Court and all the departments for their seamless cooperation in putting up a very, very good show during the mock drill,' Taranum added.
Meanwhile, in view of the prevailing security scenario and the need for preparedness against any potential threat, a comprehensive mock drill was also conducted at the Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport in Agartala.
The exercise, part of the Annual Multi-Agency CTCP (Contingency Terrorist Contingency Plan) Mock Exercise-2025, was held from 5:00 PM to 6:05 PM following the guidelines issued by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS).
The theme of the drill centred around a simulated terrorist attack at the airport terminal building from the city side.
The exercise saw active participation from key security and emergency response agencies, including the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Airports Authority of India (AAI), AAI Fire Service, Indian Army (21 Para Commando), Assam Rifles, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Tripura State Police, Directorate General of Resettlement (DGR), and medical personnel.
A total of 186 personnel took part in the drill, executing their roles as per the pre-defined contingency plan to test coordination, response time, and effectiveness of emergency protocols. (ANI)

Karnataka BJP Calls for Accountability in Stampede Tragedy
Bengaluru: BJP demands judicial inquiry, Karnataka Congress government, stampede accountability, B Y Vijayendra's statement, compensation for victims, public safety the wake of a stampede during Royal Challengers Bengaluru's IPL 2025 victory parade near Chinnaswamy Stadium, Karnataka BJP President B Y Vijayendra has called for a judicial inquiry by a sitting High Court judge, accusing the Congress-led state government of gross negligence and an obsession with public relations at the expense of public safety. Vijayendra's demand for accountability comes as the state grapples with the aftermath of the tragedy, with hospitals reporting a grim tally of casualties and the injured still under treatment. In a strongly worded statement on social media platform X, Vijayendra asserted, 'The stampede at Chinnaswamy wasn't an accident, it was a tragedy caused by the Congress government's sheer irresponsibility and PR obsession. I demand a judicial inquiry by a sitting High Court judge and Rs. 50 lakh compensation for each victim's family. The CM & his cabinet must be held accountable.' The BJP leader's call for a judicial probe reflects a broader political narrative of opposition to the Congress government's handling of the event. The tragedy has ignited a fierce debate over event management and public safety protocols, especially given the scale of the gathering, which drew an estimated 2.5 lakh people to the stadium and its vicinity. The tragedy has also prompted a response from the Karnataka government, which has ordered a magisterial inquiry but stopped short of agreeing to a judicial one. This distinction is crucial, as a judicial inquiry would involve higher judicial oversight and potentially more stringent accountability measures. The state has also announced plans to formulate a new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for mega events, aiming to prevent future incidents.

Student organisations accuse corporate colleges of ‘rank scam,' demand action
Leaders of student organisations have accused certain corporate college managements of resorting to what they call the 'Ranks' scam.' At a press conference in Vijayawada on Thursday, Student Federation of India (SFI) state secretary Prasanna Kumar alleged that after the JEE (Advanced)-2025 results were announced on June 2, many corporate colleges began making false claims that the top rankers belonged to their respective coaching centre or institution. Citing examples, he said: 'Majid Hussain, who secured an all-India 3rd rank, was falsely claimed as a student of a private college, while in reality he attended coaching classes at a private academy in Madhya Pradesh. Similarly, Akshat Kumar, who secured an all-India 6th rank, did not study in a private college as claimed by them but was a student of another private academy.' He added that in the race to garner a bigger pie of the student talent for the next academic batches, these corporate colleges made false claims over successful students' ranks to deceive students and parents. He said: 'There was a sharp decline in enrolments in these colleges as a large number of students were resorting to taking the extreme step of suicide. The government must take measures to check these fraudulent practices.' The leaders of the All-India Students Federation (AISF) also made similar charges against educational institutions and have said that the practice of multiple institutions claiming credit for the success of a single candidate in entrance exams can be misleading for parents. They demanded action against Telugu film actors, who serve as brand ambassadors for these institutions.
