Off to School in Fairview
Had an excellent talk with over 170 3rd graders at Fairview Elementary this afternoon. Thanks to Mrs. Bernatowicz (seated center bottom in the first picture) for inviting me and all the staff, including Principal Dr. Horn (3rd picture)
The kiddos had prepared questions about broadcasting, storms, and forecasting and they had just completed a tornado drill, so naturally we watched our 2025 Spring Severe Weather Special on the 1985 tornadoes. You can view that here as well.

Texoma prepares for severe weather: Possible wind gusts and hail ahead
TEXOMA (KFDX/KJTL) – Significant severe weather is expected to take place in the Texoma area today, Sunday, June 8. The timing is from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., but could be as early as 2 p.m. Significant damaging wind gusts (80-100 mph), extremely large hail (baseball-sized and larger), and a few tornadoes will all be possible. There is potential for a strong tornado and softball-sized hail in the afternoon. Still, the most likely concern is significant damaging wind gusts, leading to widespread wind damage and power outages across the areas hit hardest. If we don't see a single tornado, this will still likely be our most significant severe weather event of the season, just because of the hurricane-force wind gusts. Between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m., we may have a couple of supercells over Texoma. Conditions will favor these supercells to be capable of all hazards. These cells will eventually congeal into a system that pushes to the east, still capable of withstanding all hazards and significant wind damage. While these early cells are occurring, more supercells develop across the panhandle. The cells will congeal into a system that will sweep across most of Texoma from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. All hazards are possible with this system, but the potential for 80-100 mph winds will be the greatest concern. Severe thunderstorms possible Sunday across the Lowcountry
MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCBD) – Storm Team 2 is tracking the possibility for some severe thunderstorms across the Lowcountry on Sunday. The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Berkeley, Charleston, Colleton, Dorchester, Georgetown, and Williamsburg counties until 5 p.m. Forecasters say scattered severe storms are expected to move into the area Sunday afternoon into evening. Specifically, there is a risk of severe thunderstorms between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., according to the National Weather Service in Charleston. Primary threats include damaging wind gusts and heavy rain; however, there is also a possibility of some hail and frequent lightning. Owensboro Strawberry Festival canceled due to hazardous conditions
HENDERSON, Ky (WEHT) – Due to conditions of parking fields and walking paths along with vast amounts of mud, The Cottage in Owensboro has decided to cancel the Strawberry Festival for this year. Organizers made the announcement on social media. Organizers also hope to see everyone at the upcoming Pumpkin & Pickle Festival in October.
