ESPN low on Georgia's quarterback room

Yahoo22-05-2025

ESPN writer David Hale attempted to rank all FBS quarterback groups into tiers. Out of the twenty tiers in the list, he ranked Georgia into the fifth tier, titled "The Waiting is the Hardest Part".
Georgia is undergoing a quarterback battle between Gunner Stockton, who started in the Sugar Bowl against Notre Dame, and Ryan Puglisi, a redshirt freshman who was a four-star recruit. Stockton played well enough for many, including Hale, to believe that he'll win the job, but the job is still up in the air.

The quarterback battle took place after Carson Beck, who is in tier 1B (titled "So hot right now") of this list, transferred to Miami to replace No. 1 pick Cam Ward. Beck and Stetson Bennett have been elite in Georgia's system, and Hale pointed it out with this stat comparison:
Beck/Bennett: 80.3 QBR, 67% completions, 8.84 yards per attemptEvery other Kirby Smart quarterback: 66.3 QBR, 62% completions, 7.84 yards per attempt
Georgia has ranked in tier 1 in 2024, tier 3 in 2023, and tier 2A in 2022. It goes to show the shoes that Stockton or Puglisi have to fill.
Georgia's quarterback room enters the same tier as Alabama, Oregon, and Ole Miss. Unlike Georgia, all three of these teams had a quarterback selected in the 2025 NFL draft, and the projected starters for each of these teams have been waiting patiently for their turn. Alabama's Ty Simpson and Ole Miss' Austin Simmons waited for two years behind Jalen Milroe and Jaxson Dart, while Dante Moore backed up Dillon Gabriel in Oregon for a year after transferring from UCLA.

Hale ranks Georgia's quarterback room tied-for 25th along with Alabama, Oregon and Ole Miss. Overall, Hale included 20 ties and all 136 FBS quarterback situations.

Big Ten coach reveals biggest Bryce Underwood concern

The post Big Ten coach reveals biggest Bryce Underwood concern appeared first on ClutchPoints. After winning the national championship in 2023, the Michigan football team took a step backwards last season. The Wolverines did lose a lot of their top talent, and also their head coach. Michigan finished the season with an 8-5 record, but wins over #2 Ohio State and #11 Alabama gave the program some momentum, along with a commitment from quarterback Bryce Underwood, who was the #1 recruit in the 2025 class. Advertisement Last season, the biggest issue for the Michigan football team was that it didn't really have a quarterback. Three players got opportunities, and none of them came close to meeting the standard. However, the Wolverines have Bryce Underwood now, and that should help the cause. Having Underwood will make a big difference, but Michigan will need to have talented players around him. One anonymous Big Ten coach thinks that there should be more focus on the running backs. 'The focus is on [Bryce] Underwood, but it should be on finding new backs to go with him,' the coach said, according to an article from On3. The one offensvie position group that Michigan should be feeling really good about is the RBs, so it's a bit surprising to see a Big Ten coach have that take. The Wolverines are returning sophomore Jordan Marshall, who had a massive game in the ReliaQuest Bowl against Alabama. He won MVP of the game. Speaking of the Crimson Tide, Michigan also picked up Alabama transfer Justice Haynes, who was one of the best RBs in the transfer portal. Advertisement Losing Donovan Edwards and Kalel Mullings does hurt, but the Michigan football team has some great backs with good experience. With a capable QB like Bryce Underwood, this could be a College Football Playoff team. 'They would've been a serious postseason contender last year if they had a quarterback on the roster,' another anonymous coach said. 'Now they do, so it's all about how fast [Chip] Lindsey can get him up to speed and going.'

New Photo of Coveted Star Emerges Sparking Georgia Rumors

New Photo of Coveted Star Emerges Sparking Georgia Rumors originally appeared on Athlon Sports. One four-star recruit has been around the Georgia Bulldogs football program for years. But the Bulldogs have had to court the prospect just like everyone else. Advertisement On Saturday, though, four-star defensive lineman PJ Dean provided a little peak into what he would look like donning a Bulldogs uniform. "4-star DL PJ Dean sporting the Georgia uniform on his official visit," On3's Jeremy Johnson wrote as a social media caption to a picture of Dean in the black Georgia uniform. Over the weekend, Dean was set to work with Bulldogs defensive line coach Tray Scott. Dean was complimentary of the coach while speaking to Johnson before the visit. 'It's been smooth because coach Scott is a likable coach,' Dean told Johnson. 'He's definitely a cool, even-keeled guy. I was in the defensive line room, there wasn't really a lot of yelling going on. Advertisement "It was more of a stern, just, hey, he's teaching you. That's just the way he goes about things. I feel like all of them go about it like that, but he goes about it. I love it.' Georgia Bulldogs football head coach Kirby Smart© Stephen Lew-Imagn Images Dean's older brother, Jared Wilson, started at center for the Bulldogs last season. In April, the New England Patriots drafted Wilson in the third round. Originally, Dean was set to become an offensive lineman in college as well. But he recently switched his focus to defense. With his brother playing for the program, the Bulldogs could have the inside track on Dean. However, On3's Recruiting Prediction Machine projects the Ohio State Buckeyes to land the defensive lineman. Advertisement According to the 247 Sports composite rankings, Dean is the No. 7 defensive lineman and 68th-ranked recruit overall in the 2026 class.
