Manchester City keeper Ederson dismisses exit rumours as fake news
Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson has said any reports of his impending departure from the club in the close season are fake news as he enters the final year of his contract.
Ederson has been City's number one since he joined the club from Benfica for 40 million euros ($46.90 million) in 2017.
The 31-year-old has won six Premier League titles and the Champions League with City while he has also claimed the Premier League Golden Glove three times for the most clean sheets.
The Brazilian was heavily linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League, mentioning he had received an "unusual proposal" in October, but said at the Club World Cup that his head is with City.
'No, my future is here,' Ederson told reporters.
"Some friends send me a lot of news but 99 per cent is fake news. I understand you guys (media), you need the news to put a like on social media or rant for the news.
'I understand, but there's a lot of fake news around my name. My head is here, it stays with City. It gives me everything to go back to the Premier League again and try to win the Champions League as well. My mind is staying in the club.'
City boss Pep Guardiola said he did not know anything about Ederson's contract. The keeper will leave as a free agent next year if the club do not extend his contract.
Guardiola said: "What I can say, I'm so pleased and delighted with what I'm seeing in the training sessions and delighted that Eddie is still with us.
"We cannot define what we have done in this incredible, spectacular decade without him. His contribution has been massive in many, many aspects and I'm really pleased."

NHL-NHL opens host city selection process for 2028 World Cup of Hockey
The National Hockey League on Thursday invited cities across North America, Europe and other international markets to submit expressions of interest to host games for the 2028 World Cup of Hockey. The deadline for submissions is July 18 for North American cities and July 30 for international cities. The host cities will be chosen during the first quarter of 2026. The NHL, which is sending its players back to the Olympics next year for the first time since 2014, said the fourth edition of the World Cup of Hockey and first since 2016 is expected to last 12 days and include 17 games. The league also said the return of the World Cup of Hockey is building on the momentum of the 4 Nations Face-Off held in February 2025 in Montreal and Boston and featured NHL players from Canada, Finland, Sweden and the United States. Whether players from Russia will participate in the World Cup of Hockey, which is run separately from the International Ice Hockey Federation, is to be determined. The IIHF suspended Russia from international competition through at least the end of the 2025-26 season because of the country's 2022 invasion of Ukraine.

IOC to take lead in gender eligibility criteria, says Coventry
LAUSANNE, Switzerland :The International Olympic Committee will take the lead in discussions on gender eligibility criteria in sports, its new President Kirsty Coventry said on Thursday, four years after the ruling body had urged federations to handle the issue independently. Coventry, who officially took over the presidency from Thomas Bach this week following Monday's ceremony in Lausanne as the first woman and first African to hold the position, said she now wanted the IOC to "protect the female category". She said a working group would be set up to take charge of those discussions. The IOC has long refused to apply any universal rule on transgender participation for the Games, instructing international federations in 2021 to come up with their own guidelines, so there is no one universal rule for sport. "We're going to actually set up a working group made up of experts and international federations," Coventry told a press conference following the first executive board meeting of her presidency. She had also held a two-day workshop for IOC members this week to discuss key issues with them. "It was agreed by the members that the IOC should take a leading role in this and that we should be the ones to bring together the experts, bring together the international federations and ensure that we find consensus," Coventry said. "We understand that there will be differences depending on the sports. We should make the effort to place emphasis on the protection of the female category and that we should ensure that this is done in consensus with all the stakeholders." Transgender athletes are currently eligible to compete at the Olympics. Some international federations have rules in place but others have not yet reached that stage. U.S. President Donald Trump has banned transgender athletes from competing in sports in schools in the United States, which civil society groups say infringes on the rights of trans people.

Global financial crime watchdog calls for action on crypto risks
PARIS :The Financial Action Task Force (FATF), a global financial crime watchdog, on Thursday called on countries to take stronger action to combat illicit finance in crypto assets, warning that gaps in regulation could have global repercussions. The Paris-based watchdog said that while progress has been made since 2024 in regulating virtual assets, many jurisdictions still have work to do to combat risks. As of April 2025, only 40 of 138 jurisdictions assessed were "largely compliant" with FATF's crypto standards, up from 32 a year earlier. "With virtual assets inherently borderless, regulatory failures in one jurisdiction can have global consequences," FATF said in a statement. Illicit crypto wallet addresses may have received up to $51 billion in 2024, according to blockchain analytics firm Chainalysis. FATF said that countries continue to face difficulties in identifying who is behind virtual asset transactions. The report is the latest sign of rising concern among financial authorities about crypto-related risks to the financial system. In April, the EU's securities watchdog warned that the expanding crypto sector could pose risks to broader financial stability, especially as links with traditional markets deepen. FATF also raised concerns about the use of stablecoins, a type of cryptocurrency pegged to fiat currencies, by "various illicit actors", including North Korea, terrorist financiers and drug traffickers. It said most illicit crypto activity now involves stablecoins. The FBI has said that North Korea was responsible for the theft of approximately $1.5 billion worth of virtual assets from crypto exchange ByBit in February - the largest ever crypto theft. North Korea routinely denies involvement in cyber hacking or crypto heists.
