An American Airlines plane caught fire after landing at Denver International Airport, prompting the evacuation of passengers using emergency slides.
Flight 1006, which was traveling from Colorado Springs to Dallas Fort Worth, diverted to Denver after the crew reported engine vibrations. The Boeing 737-800 landed safely. but caught fire while taxiing to the gate. According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the fire broke out in one of the plane's engines.
Passengers on board shared photos and videos of the plane, showing them standing on the wing as smoke billowed from the aircraft. The FAA confirmed that all 172 passengers and six crew members safely exited the plane using emergency slides. No injuries were reported.
American Airlines stated that the flight experienced an engine-related issue after taxiing to the gate but did not provide further details on the timing of the fire.
Firefighters quickly responded to the blaze and had it extinguished by the evening, according to airport officials. The FAA has launched an investigation into the incident.
American Airlines thanked the crew, the Denver International Airport (DEN) team, and first responders for their swift actions, emphasizing the priority of passenger safety. The airline also expressed appreciation for the quick evacuation and praised the efforts to ensure everyone was safe.
Despite the recent spate of aviation incidents and close calls, flying remains one of the safest modes of transport.
