MACC obtains remand order for duo linked to birth cert syndicate
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has obtained remand orders for two female suspects for involvement in a syndicate that obtained birth certificates using fake documents.
Magistrate Mohamad Redza Azhar Rezali issued the five-day remand order until April 26, following a request by the MACC at the Shah Alam Magistrates Court on Tuesday (April 22).
In a statement, MACC said the arrest was made as part of "Ops Child", its investigation into the syndicate.
According to sources, the suspects, in their 40s, were arrested at around 1pm on Monday (April 21) after giving their statements at the Selangor MACC office.
"The suspects are believed to have committed the offence in 2023 by soliciting and receiving bribes of approximately RM10,000.
"One of the suspects, who works at a Melaka private hospital, is also suspected of impersonating a National Registration Department officer.
"She allegedly used false details to obtain birth certificates despite there being no such birth records at the hospital involved," the source added.
Selangor MACC director Hairuzam Mohmad Amin@Hamim confirmed the arrests and said the case was being investigated under Section 17 of the MACC Act 2009.
He did not rule out the possibility of further arrests over the case.

The funds were allegedly transferred to multiple entities, including proxy companies and the personal account of the Tan Sri's wife, and used to acquire real estate, luxury vehicles and goods, as well as fund gambling activities. MACC has seized individual bank accounts totalling RM4.5 million, eight company accounts totalling RM33 million, a luxury condominium and a plot of land valued at RM24.5 million, as well as nine vehicles valued at RM7.6 million in its probe. The anti-graft agency had also seized luxury watches valued at about RM25 million, designer handbags valued at RM3 million, jewellery and diamonds worth RM6 million, four horses valued at RM400,000, and premium alcoholic beverages worth RM3 million.

TH Travel denies link with fake haj package programme
KUALA LUMPUR: TH Travel & Services Sdn Bhd (TH Travel) has denied it's connection with a fake programme known as "Program Haji Infaq Masyarakat" which allegedly offers TH Travel-managed haj packages priced at RM123,990 with an initial payment of as little as RM10,000. TH Travel, in a statement, said the company has never appointed any individual, external company or business entity to promote, manage or receive payment on behalf of TH Travel for any haj or umrah packages. The statement said that as a haj and umrah travel agency registered and fully regulated by the Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH), all payments related to registration and deposits for haj packages operated by TH Travel can only be made through TH's official account. "TH Travel does not offer subsidised or externally sponsored packages that require pilgrims to pay into unofficial or individual accounts. "TH Travel is not involved in any form of fundraising through cleaning companies, cake businesses or third party intermediaries," the statement said. TH Travel takes seriously the misuse of the company's name and reputation to deceive Muslims intending to perform the Haj pilgrimage. "We understand that a police report has been lodged and an investigation is underway by the authorities and TH Travel is prepared to provide full cooperation to the Royal Malaysia Police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) in handling this case," the statement said. – BERNAMA
