WCCO-AM ending local programming on weekday evenings; Henry Lake's show canceled
WCCO Newstalk 830-AM is ending its local programming on weekday evenings, which has resulted in the cancellation of The Henry Lake Show.
Sources tell Bring Me The News that staff were informed of a major change to the news/talk station's schedule on Thursday morning, with live and local programming eliminated after 6 p.m. with the exception of Minnesota Twins games.
This in turn means an end to Henry Lake's evening show, with the schedule on Thursday showing a gap between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m., with Lake and co-host Chris Tubbs departing the station.
It comes amid a series of sweeping cuts unfolding from parent company Audacy on Thursday, with Radio Insight reporting that between 250 and 300 staff across the country could be laid off.
A memo from Audacy Minneapolis obtained by Bring Me The News states that the "business is not where it needs to be," and states that the decision was in no way based on the performance of Lake's show.
There has been no word at this point of cuts at any other Audacy stations in the Twin Cities, which includes 104.1 Jack FM and 102.9 The Wolf.
BMTN has reached out to Audacy for further comment.
Henry Lake has been at WCCO-AM for six years, leaving 100.3 KFAN to launch a show in the 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. slot on The Good Neighbor.

The Thursday evening storm that swept through the Twin Cities forced the postponement of the first concert of St. Paul's Lowertown Sounds series. Ahead of its scheduled Thursday concert featuring the Flamin' Oh's, Lowertown Sounds announced that the threat of thunderstorms had resulted in the cancellation. The show, which would have marked the kickoff of the series at Mears Park, is rescheduled for Sep. 11. 'We are as excited as you about kicking off the series but also don't want our first night out to be a wet and sloppy mess, especially for one of our summer highlight bands, the Flamin Oh's,' Lowertown Sounds wrote on Facebook.
