OIL starts hydrocarbon exploration in Tripura

Time of India15-05-2025

Agartala:
Oil India Ltd
(OIL), the second Maharatna company after
ONGC
, has initiated its maiden hydrocarbon exploration project in Tripura at
Debtamura hill
in Gomati district under India's Hydrocarbon Exploration and Licensing Policy (HELP).
Earlier this week, OIL officials began their exploration activities following a technical report that indicated substantial hydrocarbon deposits in the area. The commencement was marked by a modest ground-breaking ceremony in the hilly settlement.
Officials confirmed their plans to drill the initial well within the Baramura-Debtamura Reserve Forest, situated along the Indo-Bangladesh border. The state's hydrocarbon exploration efforts have encountered obstacles due to extensive forest reserves and transportation challenges.
Over the past 53 years, ONGC has established more than 200 wells, primarily across West Tripura, South Tripura, Gomati and North Tripura districts. Currently, it generates 3.5 Million Metric Standard Cubic Meters of gas daily, supporting the 726MW Palatana power facility and the 100MW power station at Monarchak.
ONGC supplies gas to Tripura Natural Gas Company Ltd, which operates approximately 12 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations.

The company delivers clean fuel to vehicles and provides piped natural gas to more than 2000 households in Agartala for cooking purposes.
While ONGC and several private companies have undertaken exploration activities in specific regions of Tripura with limited success, the arrival of OIL in exploration operations is expected to strengthen the state's economic prospects.

No new petrol, diesel fleet vehicles in Delhi-NCR from Jan 2026: CAQM

The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has announced that starting January 1, 2026, no new petrol or diesel vehicles will be allowed to join the fleets of cab aggregators, delivery companies, and e-commerce firms operating in Delhi-NCR. The rule applies to light commercial vehicles, goods carriers, and two-wheelers used for deliveries, reports PTI. The decision is aimed at tackling rising pollution levels in the region. According to CAQM, commercial fleet vehicles contribute heavily to air pollution due to longer operating hours and poor maintenance, leading to higher emissions compared to private vehicles. To reduce emissions, only electric or CNG vehicles will be allowed as new additions to commercial fleets from 2026. The move supports the Delhi government's Motor Vehicle Aggregator and Delivery Service Provider Scheme, 2023, which requires companies operating more than 25 vehicles to register them on a government-monitored portal for better oversight. The commission has also urged neighbouring states—Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan—to implement similar restrictions, especially in cities with high vehicle density such as Gurugram, Noida, Ghaziabad, and Faridabad. The step is part of a broader plan to cut pollution and promote cleaner transport options across the National Capital Region.

Nod for 40,000 new eco-friendly autos within ORR limits

Hyderabad: The state govt has relaxed restrictions on new auto-rickshaw permits and announced that 40,000 new electric, LPG, and CNG vehicles will be permitted within Outer Ring Road (ORR) limits. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now According to transport minister Ponnam Prabhakar, this includes 20,000 electric, 10,000 LPG, and 10,000 CNG auto-rickshaws. Until now, there have been restrictions on granting new auto permits within the GHMC limits. However, the govt has now issued a GO allowing new permits, keeping in view both the growing demand for transport and the need to protect the environment, the minister said. He stated that chief minister A Revanth Reddy had taken the decision to permit new auto-rickshaws, which would benefit around 65,000 families. He added that with the city expanding and new residential layouts coming up, ensuring adequate transport facilities has become a priority. Ponnam Prabhakar said permission would also be granted for 25,000 petrol and diesel auto-rickshaws to retrofit their engines with electric, CNG, and LPG.

New petrol, diesel cabs to be banned in Delhi-NCR from this date: Details

Petrol, diesel cabs to be banned in Delhi-NCR. The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has announced that from January 1, 2026, no new petrol or diesel vehicles will be allowed to join the fleets of cab aggregators, delivery companies, and e-commerce firms operating in Delhi-NCR. The directive is applicable to light commercial vehicles, goods carriers, and two-wheelers used for deliveries. The CAQM stated that commercial vehicles significantly contribute to air pollution in the region due to their extended usage hours and poor maintenance. In comparison to privately owned vehicles, these fleet-operated units emit higher levels of pollutants. To counter this, the commission has mandated a transition to cleaner alternatives: electric or CNG-powered vehicles for any new additions to these commercial fleets.
