Students struggle during admissions due to confusion over subject selection under NEP

Indore: As the online college admission process under the department of higher education (DHE) continues, many students are grappling with confusion while selecting their major, minor, elective, and vocational subjects. The absence of proper guidance, complex subject titles, and an overwhelming number of combinations have made the process difficult for many. Under the National Education Policy (NEP) framework, students must finalise their subject preferences at the time of registration. But, due to limited awareness and understanding, many are making hurried choices—only to realise later that they either don't recall their selections or have chosen courses misaligned with their interests or career goals. "While filling out the form, I selected the subjects in a hurry because there was no one to guide me. Now I can't even remember what I selected as my minor subject," said Drishti Patel, a student applying for a BA programme. "Subject names are so technical and confusing. I had to search each one online, but even then I wasn't sure which subject is best for my career," said Raghav Sharma, another applicant. Educationists from the city said that subject names are unfamiliar to most students as they just cleared the Class 12 examinations, and there is neither enough information on the website nor trained faculty to help them during the process. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 오스템 임플란트 받아가세요 임플란터 더 알아보기 Undo Colleges must create dedicated guidance teams. Vocational subjects, despite being encouraged under NEP for promoting skill development, are scarcely available in private colleges due to faculty and infrastructure limitations. This further narrows the options for students who may have preferred these courses. Meanwhile, the DHE officials said that the students can approach the helpdesks set up at the govt colleges for any guidance. To accommodate the rising number of applicants, the DHE has extended the registration deadline to June 6. The initial deadline was May 31. Document verification will continue until June 7, and the first round of seat allotment will be announced on June 12. Students must pay their admission fee between June 13 and 18 to confirm their seats. Failure to do so will lead to automatic cancellation. As the deadline nears, students and parents are demanding simplified procedures, better counselling, and subject brochures in easy language to help them make more informed and confident decisions.

Police nab four men for selling IPL tickets illegally

Ahmedabad: City police on Tuesday arrested four men in two separate cases allegedly for selling IPL 2025 final match tickets illegally. The arrests were made by the crime branch and Gujarat University (GU) police during routine patrols. In the first incident, crime branch constable Vishwaraj Singh reported that around 10.50pm on Tuesday, police received information about a man selling IPL final tickets at inflated prices near Gate No. 1 of Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera. Acting on the tip-off, police detained a suspect matching the description — a man wearing a muddy-coloured T-shirt and grey pants. The individual was identified as Shubhankar Nilesh Shilkar, 22, a resident of Usgao village in Ponda, Goa. Upon searching him, police recovered three tickets for the match, each with a printed price of Rs 1,500. "Shilkar admitted that he purchased the tickets online and was attempting to sell them for Rs 5,000 each. A case of illegal selling of tickets was registered against him, and the tickets were seized. In the second case, Gujarat University police received a tip-off around 9pm on Tuesday about three youths selling match tickets illegally near the LD Engineering BRTS bus stop. Cops reached the spot and detained three individuals: Adityasinh Chauhan (19), Tushar Chauhan (18), and Sahil Shah (19), all students residing in different areas of the city. A search of the suspects revealed that Sahil Shah was carrying six IPL final tickets, each priced at Rs 1,500. According to cops, the group admitted that they booked the tickets online and intended to sell them for Rs 5,000 each, sharing any profit equally. Like in the earlier case, they were unable to provide any legal authorisation for resale. Gujarat University police registered an FIR under the same charges and seized the tickets.

Erect waiting shed at Fort Kochi Ro-Ro jetty within a week, Kerala HC directs Kochi corporation

Kochi: High court has directed the Kochi corporation secretary to erect a temporary waiting shed at the Fort Kochi Ro-Ro Jetty, capable of accommodating at least 50 commuters at a time, at the corporation's expense, within a week. Additionally, the bench of Justice C S Dias instructed Kochi Water Metro Ltd to explore the possibility of providing temporary shelters at both the Fort Kochi and Vypin Water Metro jetties, especially to offer protection to commuters during the monsoon season. The court was hearing a petition concerning the Fort Kochi-Vypin Ro-Ro ferry service. The petition was filed by Nancy Xavier, who sought interim relief directing the Kerala Shipping and Inland Navigation Corporation and Kochi corporation to construct a waiting room at the Fort Kochi Ro-Ro Jetty. She submitted that hundreds of passengers rely on the Ro-Ro ferry service daily, and despite five years having passed since the commencement of services and multiple undertakings by the corporation, no waiting facility had been provided. In response, Kochi corporation informed HC that an estimate of Rs 6.70 lakh had been prepared for constructing a waiting shed, which was awaiting administrative approval. They added that even a temporary shed requires permission from the statutory authority under the Art & Heritage Regulations, framed under the CRZ norms. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like ¡Trading con IA en Chile ayuda a usuarios a obtener ganancias potenciales! However, HC observed that Kochi corporation cannot shirk its statutory obligations or shift responsibility to the Water Metro authorities, especially since there is no privity of contract between Water Metro and Ro-Ro passengers. The bench also criticised the corporation for failing to provide shelter for commuters who are exposed to the vagaries of nature. The court further directed the petitioner to implead the Coastal Regulation Zone Authority as a party in the proceedings and adjourned the matter to June 10.
