Minister of Electricity Meets with General Vernova to Discuss 24,000 MW Production Projects

Minister of Electricity Ziyad Ali Fadhil held a meeting today, Thursday, with officials from General Vernova to discuss its 24,000 MW production projects.
A statement from the ministry, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), stated that "Minister of Electricity Ziyad Ali Fadhil chaired a meeting with officials from the American company General Vernova to discuss the implementation of the terms of the strategic memorandum of understanding recently concluded between the Ministry of Electricity and the American company." He added, "The memorandum aims to establish modern power plants throughout Iraq with a total capacity of (24) thousand megawatts, in a qualitative step to enhance the country's electricity production capacity and meet the growing needs of citizens."
He explained that, "During the meeting, the two parties discussed identifying the strategic locations where the new power plants will be built, taking into account the optimal geographical distribution and the actual needs of each region to ensure maximum benefit from these vital projects."
He continued, "The meeting also touched on another topic related to the long-term maintenance carried out by General Vernova in a number of currently operating power plants, which aims to raise operational efficiency and extend the lifespan of these plants."
He pointed out that, "The two sides discussed the details of the rehabilitation and expansion projects planned for the Musayyib and Mansouriya power plants, which are considered pivotal stations in the electricity grid. These projects will contribute to increasing production capacity and improving the reliability of supply."
The minister emphasized, according to the statement, "the importance of the strategic partnership with General Electric," stressing "the need to adhere to the specified timetables for project implementation and to apply the highest technical and environmental standards in all phases of work." For their part, General Electric officials expressed the company's full commitment to implementing the terms of the memorandum of understanding and providing the latest technologies in the field of electricity generation.

In a joint press conference held with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, Al-Sudani affirmed Iraq's commitment to achieving Arab integration, according to a statement cited by the Iraqi News Agency (INA). Aoun's visit to Iraq represents an important opportunity to enhance relations at security, economic, and social levels and to confront regional challenges, according to Al-Sudani. The Iraqi prime minister highlighted that Iraq's chair of the Arab Summit will seek to promote Lebanon's unity, state institutions, and territorial sovereignty. The two leaders discussed potential collaborative prospects in energy, communications, and commerce, as well as integration that would benefit the people of both countries. Al-Sudani reiterated Iraq's condemnation of Israel's continuous attacks on Lebanese sovereignty, which are deemed a violation of international law.
