NZ powerhouse Nweke stars as Swifts crush Fever
New Zealand star Grace Nweke has made a stunning start to her Super Netball career, scoring 52 goals to lead the NSW Swifts to a 67-49 win over the West Coast Fever in Perth.
Nweke tore Australia to shreds during last year's Constellation Cup series, and she was in fine form at RAC Arena on Sunday to ensure NSW got their season off to a winning note.
The 23-year-old was unstoppable close to goal, with Swifts players able to simply lob it over the top to her time and again.
"She's a freak of an athlete, and she's only going to keep getting bigger and better, which is quite scary," Swifts veteran Verity Simmons told Fox Sports.
"She's a beautiful girl off the court, and an absolute beast on the court."

The match also marked the return of Simmons, albeit in very different colours.
Simmons became a fan favourite during her 140-game career at the Fever, helping the club to the 2022 premiership.
The 33-year-old spent last year playing AFLW with West Coast, but she joined the Swifts after being delisted by the Eagles.
Despite now being on enemy territory, Simmons received a loud cheer from Fever fans when she entered the court early in the second quarter following a heavy fall from Grace Whyte.
Simmons played a key role in helping the Swifts build a match-winning lead.
"It was a crazy feeling out here, being in red and being with the Swifties in my hometown," Simmons said.
"It was amazing to get out there to get such a big win.
"The girls dug deep. I wasn't expecting a score like that.
"I am loving (being back). Footy was awesome, and I loved it. Maybe too physical for me.
"I'm really excited to have a round ball back in my hands."

The Fever made a strong start to the match, edging out to a 6-3 lead before Nweke turned the contest on its head.
From 10-10 in the first, the Swifts scored the next eight goals to take an 18-10 lead into quarter-time.
Fever closed the gap back to five in a hard-fought second quarter as Fever shooter Olivia Wilkinson nailed a pair of Super Shots.
But Nweke hit back to give the Swifts a 33-25 advantage at halftime.
It was game over in the third when the lead swelled to 19 goals, with the Swifts able to cruise to victory from that point on.

Caitlin Clark's Indiana Fever Hit Concerning New Low
Caitlin Clark's Indiana Fever Hit Concerning New Low originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Indiana Fever's 77-58 loss to the Atlanta Dream was bad for more reasons than just the WNBA Commissioner's Cup standings. Advertisement After a two-game win streak brought some life back into the Caitlin Clark-less Fever, the offense completely fell apart in the team's fifth game without its star point guard due to a quad injury. It was Indiana's worst shooting performance of the 2025 season. The team set season lows in field goal percentage (21-for-58, 36.2 percent) and three-point percentage (5-for-24, 20.8 percent) in the 19-point loss. But it was not just a new low for the season — the Fever's 58 points marked the worst offensive performance of the entire Caitlin Clark era. Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark. Emily Faith Morgan-Imagn Images Including the postseason, the Fever have played 51 games since selecting Clark with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft out of Iowa. Advertisement Adding the NCAA's all-time leading scorer immediately gave the team an injection of offense last season. Under head coach Christie Sides, Indiana's 106.1 offensive rating and 85.0 points per game both ranked third in the WNBA. Clark played all 40 regular season games, averaging a team-leading 19,2 points per game and a league-leading 8.4 assists per game. The team's lowest point total came in a 102-66 loss to the eventual champions, the New York Liberty, in the second game of Clark's professional career. The poor showing against Atlanta on Tuesday night made it extremely clear how much the Fever miss the hub of their offense in head coach Stephanie White's system. Advertisement On Monday, White said that Clark was ready to start "ramping back up" her basketball activities at practice this week. After sitting out the game against the Dream, Clark has another three full days to let the muscular injury heal before a potential return against the Liberty on Saturday. WNBA Announces Historic News After Liberty's Blowout Win Against Angel Reese, Sky
WNBA Announces Historic News After Liberty's Blowout Win Against Angel Reese, Sky originally appeared on Athlon Sports. To say that the New York Liberty have been an absolute force in the WNBA this season would be a huge understatement at this point. The defending champs proved that again on Tuesday night as they produced another dominant performance, this time taking down Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky in an 85-66 blowout at Barclays Center. Advertisement Sabrina Ionescu once again led the path for New York in this one, dropping a game-high 23 points (on 9-of-14 from the floor), seven assists, four steals, two blocks and two triples in 27 minutes of play. Reese did all she could for the Sky, securing a 17-point, 11-rebound double-double. It was far from enough, though. This was the Liberty's ninth straight victory, which extended their franchise record for their best start to a season at 9-0. The league took to social media to double down on this milestone, while also announcing another bit of history for New York. "New York is off to their best start in franchise history and is now tied for the fourth-longest winning streak to begin a WNBA season in league history!" the league posted on X. For what it's worth, the record for the longest streak to start a season belongs to the Minnesota Lynx, who got off to a 13-0 start in 2016. Advertisement The Liberty are now just four wins away from matching that record, and they will be looking to keep it going on Saturday when they return to action against the Indiana Fever. Regardless of Clark's status for the game, the Liberty will be fully determined to get their 10th straight win come Saturday. What happened to Caitlin Clark? What we know about her injury and when she'll be back in the game
Caitlin Clark of the Indiana Fever has just missed her fifth game due to her injury. While it was initially hoped that Clark would be back in the game after a two-week break, her re-evaluation over the weekend has set the timeline back. Here's everything we know so far. The star point guard was injured and has now missed five games to recover. Clark suffered a quad strain sometime during the Fever's game against the New York Liberty on May 24. Clark's injury was announced on Monday, May 26. At the time, her coach, Stephanie White, told IndyStar that she wasn't sure when the injury happened. Since then, Clark herself confirmed that it happened during their May 24 game against the New York Liberty, though she couldn't pinpoint the specific play when it happened. She reported some pain after the game and got an MRI, which showed a strain in her left quad. Clark's original timeline was that she would be out for two weeks before she would be re-evaluated, setting her re-evaluation date at June 8. She was evaluated this weekend and allowed to begin some aspects of practice again, White said on June 9, but not necessarily cleared for basketball activities at the highest level. This is why she was absent from the June 10 game against the Atlanta Dream. Story continues after photo gallery. It is still unknown when Clark will play again, but the next opportunity for her to return would be at the home game against the New York Liberty on June 14. The Liberty is the same team the Fever was playing against two weeks ago when Clark reported sustaining her injury.
