Ron Silk survives pit road mishap for eighth career Thompson Modified Tour victory
THOMPSON, Conn. — A dominant performance from Ron Silk in Wednesday's NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Icebreaker 150 at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park was nearly derailed during the final pit stop sequence of the evening.
While attempting to exit pit road, Silk made contact with his long-time NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour rival Justin Bonsignore and spun. The contact resulted in damage to the front of Bonsignore's Modified while Silk continued without losing any track position.
Silk was unfazed by the pit road incident as he quickly worked his way around Patrick Emerling during the closing laps to reclaim the lead. With Emerling successfully playing defense against the rest of the pack, Silk cruised to his 27th career NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour win and his eighth overall at Thompson.

'I was pretty confident if I got a good restart and got to the lead, I would be able to hold them off,' Silk said. 'My car drove great. The first 40 laps or so we were a little bit free, but we fixed that on the pit stop. The car was just spot-on after that.'

Thompson has always been a significant track in Silk's career on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, as his first three triumphs in the series came at the facility.
Joining Haydt Yannone Racing in 2022 proved to be a catalyst in Silk recapturing the efficiency he enjoyed at Thompson. Aside from his first campaign with Haydt Yannone, Silk has now won at least one race at Thompson each year piloting the silver No. 16.

Finding his way to Victory Lane on Saturday evening required Silk and crew chief Phil Moran to be sharp with pit strategy. An early caution provided Silk and Moran the opportunity they needed to shift momentum in their favor, as Silk utilized fresh tires and adjustments to charge towards the front of the field.
Silk was untouched at the front of the pack until a spin by Craig Lutz with 27 laps remaining brought most of the field back into the pits. Once Silk shook off the contact from Bonsignore, he had to quickly dispatch both Emerling and Jake Johnson to regain the lead. He comfortably did just that.

Emerling, who was piloting a Geoff Bodine tribute scheme, endured an eventful evening of his own. After losing control of his Modified on Lap 64, problems in the pit lane for Emerling resulted in him falling a lap behind the leaders, which he quickly regained on an ensuing yellow flag.

Going off-sequence from the leaders enabled Emerling to salvage a runner-up finish. Emerling was pleasantly surprised by the outcome, one that could prove to be beneficial in his quest for a NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour title.
'That was an absolutely insane run by the team,' Emerling said. 'We got stuck a lap down, but luckily there was quick caution there. We got our lap back and we passed a ton of cars. Our car was feeling good on those old tires, but that was an insane run.'
Following Silk and Emerling home in the third was Trevor Catalano, with Austin Beers and Bonsignore completing the top five. The rest of the top 10 consisted of Chase Dowling, Stephen Kopcik, polesitter Jon McKennedy, Tommy Catalano and Matt Swanson.
The next event on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour schedule is the Cheshire County Clash 200 at Monadnock Speedway on May 3, which also marks the start of the Whelen Short Track Cup. FloRacing will have coverage of the on-track action starting at 6 p.m. ET.

Shohei Ohtani thought he was ‘in trouble' before Dave Roberts gifted him a toy Porsche
The last time Shohei Ohtani thought he might be in trouble was when his name was linked to a federal investigation into illegal sports gambling in March 2024. His name was soon cleared by authorities, who charged and convicted Ohtani's interpreter, Ippei Mizuhara, in federal court with surreptitiously stealing more than $17 million from the Dodgers superstar to pay off an Orange County bookmaker. Ohtani wondered if something was amiss Wednesday when manager Dave Roberts summoned him before the Dodgers' home game against the New York Mets. But not for long. Ohtani rushed into Roberts' office, saw a bright pink remote-controlled toy car on the ground and immediately started laughing. 'I have a gift for you,' Roberts told him. 'Actually, for your daughter.' 'For my daughter? OK, thank you.' Ohtani replied. 'This is from my wife [Tricia] and me to you and your family and your daughter,' Roberts said. 'So, we have jokes always. This is a little bit of a joke. It's a Porsche. This is going to be your daughter's first car.' 'Thank you, I love it,' Ohtani said. He tapped the car with his hand and said in English, 'I thought I'm in trouble. Some trouble,' evoking laughter from Roberts and others in the room. Ohtani had gifted Roberts a tiny toy Porsche a year ago when he broke Roberts' franchise record of seven home runs by a Japanese-born player, placing it in the manager's parking lot space as a practical joke. When Ohtani signed with the Dodgers in December 2023, he gifted Ashley Kelly, the wife of pitcher Joe Kelly, a Porsche — not a toy — for Kelly giving up No. 17. Roberts kidded Ohtani about gifting him when the modest record was inevitably broken, and the new Dodgers slugger obliged with the toy. It took Roberts — born in Naha, Okinawa to a Japanese mother and American father — a year to reciprocate. 'Shohei has been very gracious and we've got this long-running practical joke,' Roberts said on video. 'This is more of a sincere gesture, not necessarily a practical joke but I wanted to present it to him.' Ohtani and his wife, Mamiko Tanaka, have not revealed the name of their daughter, who was born April 19. 'I am so grateful to my loving wife who gave birth to our healthy beautiful daughter,' Ohtani wrote on social media at the time. 'To my daughter, thank you for making us very nervous yet super anxious parents.' Super anxious? Wait until she starts driving.

Countdown to Kickoff: Cameron Jordan is the Saints Player of Day 94
Countdown to Kickoff: Cameron Jordan is the Saints Player of Day 94 Jordan continues an iconic career with the Saints heading into Year 15 Today marks 94 days before the New Orleans Saints officially start their 59th NFL season with a regular season opener against the Arizona Cardinals. The No. 94 has been worn by a few greats in New Orleans Saints history. None have been greater than Cameron Jordan, who has spent 14 iconic years in the Saints' No. 94. Here's a closer look at Cam, our Saints Player of the Day, as he begins Year 15. Name (Age): Cameron Jordan (35) Cameron Jordan (35) Hometown: Chandler, Ariz. Chandler, Ariz. Position: Defensive end Defensive end Height, weight: 6-foot-4, 287 pounds 6-foot-4, 287 pounds Relative Athletic Score: 8.86 8.86 College: California Golden Bears California Golden Bears Drafted: Round 1, 24th overall in 2011 (New Orleans Saints) Round 1, 24th overall in 2011 (New Orleans Saints) NFL experience: 15 seasons 15 seasons 2025 salary cap hit: $9,775,000 Son of Steve Jordan, a six-time Pro Bowl tight end with the Minnesota Vikings from 1982 to 1994, Cam went on to forge his own legacy that surpassed his father's. Cam was a football and track star at Chandler High School in Arizona. He was a three-star football recruit that decided on the University of California at Berkeley, but also won the Arizona 5A state championship in the discus and had a top-10 placement in the shot put. In four years at Cal, Jordan compiled 16.5 sacks and 35 tackles for loss while intercepting a pass and scoring two defensive touchdowns. As a senior in 2010, Jordan earned 1st Team All-Pac-10 and Honorable Mention All-American honors. New Orleans then selected Jordan in a loaded first round of the 2011 draft that also included star defenders Von Miller, Patrick Peterson, J.J. Watt, Robert Quinn, Ryan Kerrigan, and Cameron Heyward. In his 2011 rookie season, Jordan didn't make a great impact with 1 sack and 4 QB hits despite 16 games of action. After that, he'd become one of the greatest players in New Orleans franchise history. He'd be one of the league's most consistent pass rushers, but his outstanding run defense made him perhaps the NFL's finest all-around defensive linemen. Jordan stayed on the field in nearly every situation, yet showed remarkable durability. Despite an annual high snap count, he's missed only two of a possible 239 starts in his 14 years. Cam Jordan has 121.5 official regular season sacks, surpassing Hall of Fame Dome Patrol linebacker Rickey Jackson for the franchise's all-time lead. He's had double-digit sack totals five times, with an additional five years with at least 7.5 sacks. He trails only Von Miller (129.5) in sacks among active players and ranks 27th in NFL history in that category. Jordan's standout run defense has been mentioned. His 160 career tackles for loss ranks fourth among active players and 10th all-time since the NFL began tracking that statistic in 1999. Additionally, Jordan has forced 15 career fumbles, has broken up or tipped 65 passes, and has 3 interceptions. Jordan has been voted to eight Pro Bowls, surpassing his father's total and second in franchise history behind only Drew Brees. He also earned a 1st Team All-Pro honor in 2017 and two 2nd Team All-Pro accolades in 2018 and 2019. Perhaps indicative of Jordan's consistently top-level performance is the fact that he was voted onto the NFL's 2010s All-Decade Team. There have been six players in Saints history to wear the No. 94. Two of them, defensive ends Jim Wilks and Joe Johnson, are in the Saints Hall of Fame. Another, defensive end Charles Grant, also had a terrific career in New Orleans. Cameron Jordan has surpassed them all. His place in the Saints Hall of Fame upon his eventual retirement is secure and he should wind up with his bust in Canton as a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

He's the latest great Saints defender to wear it, following in the footsteps of guys like Jim Wilks (who appeared in 187 games with the Saints, including the playoffs), Joe Johnson (a two-time Pro Bowler and the 2000 Comeback Player of the Year), and Charles Grant (who earned a championship ring for his efforts in Super Bowl XLIV).
