Your TV screen is definitely overdue for a cleaning — here's how often you should clean it
I make a living telling folks how to get the most out of their TV, so you can imagine my embarrassment the other day when I noticed that my own TV screen was covered in a fine layer of dust. As someone who studies TVs for a living, how could I miss this?
In the days since, I've let myself off the hook. In fact, we should all let ourselves off the hook for our dusty, fingerprint-laden TV screens. It's easy to ignore a dirty screen — we're not really paying attention to them when they're off, and when they're on, grime, gunk and spots are tougher to notice. But here's the deal: A dirty screen can make even the brightest and best TVs look not-so-hot, especially under certain lighting conditions. Don't let the dust win.
Contrast and clarity are two terms that are frequently thrown around when discussing TV performance, and it makes sense, as they're key aspects of an immersive picture.
Details in the brightest and darkest regions of the picture are at risk of being obscured.
When dust and fingerprints accumulate, they can have an adverse effect on both contrast and clarity. Details in the brightest and darkest regions of the picture are at risk of being obscured, and it can be especially noticeable during daytime viewing.
Whether you own a budget-friendly TV or high-end OLED or Mini-LED TV, dust is going to be a problem. Affordable, entry-level TV screens tend to be more affected by blemishes due to the limitations of their display hardware, and if you spent a pretty penny on a premium model, you'll surely want it looking its best.
Thankfully, cleaning a TV isn't as big of a time suck as you might think it'd be.
We've put together an extensive guide to cleaning a TV screen, but if you're looking for the basics, here's what you need to know:
Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips.
I recommend cleaning your TV screen every one to two weeks in order to keep your picture looking its best.
If you notice a fingerprint or smudge, it's in your best interest to clean it as soon as possible. The longer a blemish hangs around, the harder it may be to clean later.
Additionally, if your TV is situated near a frequently opened window or sliding door, you may want to clean it more often. (My TV is set next to a living room window, and over the last several weeks, the screen has accumulated a fine layer of pollen that drifted in through the open window.)
Developing a screen-cleaning routine will ensure that your TV looks its best for years to come.

Best Buy's TV sale includes up to $900 off Roku Pro Series sets
Looking for a new way to watch stuff? Best Buy is holding a big sale on TVs right now, and the deals are significant. Roku's Pro Series TVs have been heavily discounted, with up to $900 in savings. To that end, the 75-inch Pro Series model is down to $800 and the regular price is $1,700. We haven't gotten our hands on a Pro Series TV to test out, but the specs are top-notch and reviews are generally positive. They include Mini-LED panels, with full array local dimming backlights, and 4K resolution. There's a refresh rate of 120Hz, which is decent for gamers, and some notable features like HDR 10 and Dolby Vision. This is a massive discount of $900. $800 at Best Buy These TVs ship with the company's proprietary OS, so you'll have instant access to all of the major streaming platforms. There are four HDMI ports and each unit comes with a remote that offers voice control via Alexa, Siri or Google Assistant. If 75-inches is too big for your space, the 65-inch Roku Pro Series is on sale for $600. This is basically 50 percent off, as the regular price is $1,200. Of course, Best Buy's sale doesn't begin and end with Roku. There are all kinds of TVs available at a discount. For instance, the Hisense 85-inch Class S7 has dropped down to $2,500, and it's typically $4,000. This is the company's answer to Samsung's The Frame. Panasonic's 65-inch OLED TV is a great Father's Day deal at $997
Panasonic may not be as well-known in the US for its TVs as it is in other parts of the globe, but that's starting to change. The company has a solid lineup of high-end TVs that are available through Amazon, one of which is selling at a great price right now. Its 65-inch Z85 OLED TV with Amazon's Fire TV software built-in is $997.99, a whopping 45 percent off its original $1,799.99 price when it debuted in late 2024. That's a good deal by itself, one that's made better with a bundle that includes the aforementioned TV plus Panasonic's wireless neck speaker for just $2 more (totaling $999.99). The Z85 features HDMI 2.1 ports on two of its four HDMI ports (through which it can display 4K resolution at up to 120Hz), plus Dolby Vision and HDR10 Plus support. It ships with other bells and whistles that most people are looking for in a premium television (especially gamers), like variable refresh rate (VRR), plus adaptive sync via AMD's FreeSync Premium and Nvidia G-Sync. Not bad at all for under $1K. I looked up this model on RTINGS, a resource that I use for technical breakdowns that put TVs advertised specs to the test. For the price, this TV fares pretty well, but not as well as most brands' flagship models when it comes to brightness or handling glare. Some other sweet deals to get your week started Sometimes, you just need a capable, lil' portable battery — nothing that won't easily fit into a small bag. For that, it's easier than usual to recommend Anker's 10,000mAh 30W battery, as it's $12.94 at Amazon (originally $25.99, but regularly discounted). Its small capacity isn't suited for laptops, but phones or tablets that need a quick, zippy charge are a great fit. Best of all? It has a built-in USB-C cable that doubles as a handle. If you enjoy movies and physical media, what better gadget to pair with your 4K TV than a 4K Blu-ray player? Panasonic is coming through, once again, with another good deal today. Its mid-range DP-UB420-K 4K Blu-ray player is selling for $217.99 at Amazon and $219.99 at Best Buy. Either price is among the lowest that we've seen for this media player in the past couple of months. This model supports HDR10 Plus, HDR10, and HLG formats, plus Wi-Fi support in case you need yet another device that can stream Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and YouTube. The big feature differentiating this model from the $398 DP-UB820-K is Dolby Vision HDR — the 420-K lacks it. One of the best deals of Sony's Days of Plays promotion is on the digital slim PS5, which starts at $399.99 and comes with Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. But for $449.99 at Best Buy, you can get the slim PS5 model that includes a disc drive, along with the free game. We recommend that model if you want to play disc-based games, as well as 4K Blu-rays and DVDs. Normally, the disc drive separately costs $79.99, so you're getting $30 off of that accessory on top of the $50 Days of Play discount on the console bundle through June 11th.
