Pickering's HR, Landry's complete game help OU beat Alabama 3-0 in Game 1 of super regional
NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — Kasidi Pickering hit a two-run home run and Sam Landry pitched a complete game for Oklahoma and the Sooners beat Alabama 3-0 on Friday in Game 1 of the best-of-five Norman Super Regional.
No. 2 seed Oklahoma (49-7) can clinch a berth in the Women's College World Series and eliminate the Crimson Tide with a win in Game 2 on Saturday.
The Sooners have won 17 consecutive games in super regional play.
Landry (23-4) allowed four hits with two walks, a hit-by-pitch and five strikeouts.
Abigale Dayton drew a lead-off walk in the third and Pickering hit the next pitch over the wall in center field.
Sydney Barker hit a two-out single that drove in Dayton — who led off the inning with a double — to make it 3-0 in the fifth.
Alexis Pupillo led off the sixth inning with a double, but Landry struck out Salen Hawkins and Marlie Giles before Brooke Ellestad's groundout ended the threat.
Jocelyn Briski (17-13) gave up three runs on six hits over five innings for No. 15 seed Alabama (40-22).
Two of Oklahoma's losses this season came against the Crimson Tide.
The Sooners are 7-6 against Alabama in NCAA Tournament play.

DURHAM, N.C. (AP) — Kyle Johnson drove in five runs to power Duke's 7-4 victory over Murray State on Saturday in the first game of the Durham Super Regional. The Blue Devils are one win from reaching the College World Series for the first time since 1961. Game 2 is Sunday. Johnson, a .228 hitter in 57 at-bats coming in, had two doubles and a home run among his four hits and scored twice. Trailing 2-0 in the third inning, Duke tied it when Jake Berger drew a leadoff walk and scored on Johnson's two-run home run to center field. Johnson and Berger figured in the Blue Devils' three-run fourth inning. Johnson drove in two with a bases-loaded double that sent Berger to third base. Berger then scored on a wild pitch by Nic Schutte (8-4). In the sixth, Johnson doubled to drive in one run and later scored on a double by Ben Rounds. Duke managed only six hits — four by Johnson — but the Blue Devils benefited from eight walks. Dom Decker had four of Murray State's nine hits and drove in two runs. Duke starter Owen Proksch (4-3) went 5 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on six hits with seven strikeouts. Reid Easterly pitched three scoreless innings for his fifth save. Texas beats Texas Tech 10-4 in decisive 3rd game of WCWS to win its 1st national championship
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Mia Scott hit a grand slam, Teagan Kavan claimed another win and Texas defeated Texas Tech 10-4 in Game 3 of the Women's College World Series championship series on Friday night to win its first national title. Kavan, a sophomore, allowed no earned runs in all 31 2/3 innings she pitched at the World Series. She went 4-0 with a save in the World Series for the Longhorns (56-12). Texas Tech star pitcher NiJaree Canady, who had thrown every pitch for the Red Raiders through their first five World Series games, was pulled after one inning in Game 3. She gave up five runs on five hits and only threw 25 pitches. Not even support from former Texas Tech football star Patrick Mahomes and his wife, Brittany, who were in attendance, could put the Red Raiders (54-14) over the top. Texas had lost to Oklahoma in the championship series two of the previous three years. Oklahoma was one of the teams Texas beat on its way to the championship. ___ AP sports:
