Hajiji: GRS machinery fully prepared for 17th state election

TUARAN (June 7): Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) is fully prepared to face the 17th state election, said its chairman, Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.
Hajiji, who is also the Chief Minister, said GRS has conducted a series of training sessions across constituencies and state assembly areas to strengthen the coalition's election machinery ahead of the polls.
'Clearly, GRS is ready. We have established our election machinery and conducted several rounds of training in preparation.
'However, discussions on seat allocations have yet to take place,' he told reporters after officiating the Aidiladha sacrificial ritual at the Tuaran District Police Headquarters today.
Also present were Sabah Minister of Rural Development, Datuk Jahid Jahim; Assistant Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment, Datuk Joniston Bangkuai; and Tuaran Police Chief, Supt Noraidin Ag Maidin.
The Sabah Legislative Assembly will automatically dissolve on Nov 11, ending the five-year term that began with its official opening by Sabah Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Juhar Mahiruddin on Nov 12, 2020, paving the way for the 17th state election.
Commenting on the cooperation with Barisan Nasional (BN) for the upcoming election, Hajiji said GRS remains open to discussions with the party's leaders.
'The last time I met the BN chairman (Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi) was before the fasting month. While political matters were discussed, there have been no further talks on collaboration or related issues since then.
'There is no issue with meeting; I have great respect for all friends, especially the BN chairman, and we are very open on this matter,' he said.
However, he said any party-related matters, including the 17th state election and potential cooperation with other parties, must first be discussed with the GRS Supreme Council before any decisions are made. – Bernama GRS hajiji noor lead sabah Sabah state election

Petronas layoffs driven by global challenges, not Petros issue
KUCHING: Petroliam Nasional Bhd's (Petronas) move to trim its workforce stems from global challenges and is not connected to the national oil firm's issues with Petroleum Sarawak Bhd (Petros). Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said the restructuring process is necessary amid the decline in crude oil prices. He also plans to meet with Petronas to get more details on the restructuring process. "That is why Petronas has to relook its entire operation. I'm planning a meeting with them to get a briefing on the matter and to ensure that the number of layoffs can be reduced, if not avoided," he told reporters attending the Aidiladha sacrificial event at Taman Hussein Mosque here today. On June 5, Petronas president and chief executive officer Tan Sri Tengku Muhammad Taufik Tengku Aziz said the national oil firm is cutting 10 per cent of its workforce to cope with challenging operating conditions, particularly due to falling crude prices. Tengku Muhammad Taufik said the number of staff involved in the downsizing process currently stands at around 5,000, and those affected will be notified in stages next year. On May 21, the federal and state governments reached an understanding on matters involving Petronas and Petros. According to the joint declaration, Petronas will continue its functions, activities, responsibilities and obligations entrusted to the company in Malaysia, under the Petroleum Development Act 1974 (PDA 1974) and its regulations. Any agreements and arrangements between Petronas and its subsidiaries with third parties for the purpose of liquefied natural gas (LNG) sales from upstream operations through to LNG exports to foreign parties remain unaffected. A media statement by the Prime Minister's Office following the joint declaration said all relevant federal and state laws relating to gas distribution in Sarawak are to co-exist and be respected by all parties.

Over 15,000 receive qurban meat in Brunei for Aidil Adha

The ceremony took place on the morning of Aidiladha on Saturday in the courtyard of Jame' 'Asr Hassanil Bolkiah in Kampong Kiarong, immediately following the congregational Sunnat prayer. Prince Al-Muhtadee Billah Hassanal Bolkiah, Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office, along with Prince 'Abdul Malik, graced the occasion and personally performed the slaughter of two goats as part of the sacrificial rites. The remaining sacrificial animals contributed under the name of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha Al-Marhum Pengiran Pemancha Pengiran Anak Haji Mohamed Alam, and other members of the royal family were slaughtered at two designated companies: Mohammed Norfaidzal bin Haji Zainuddin & Anak-Anak and PDS Abattoir Sdn Bhd.
