Don't have any AI apps? These are the 5 you need to install right now
AI is rapidly becoming an indispensable part of our lives, not just at work but also in our everyday activities. For example, a growing number of people are replacing their daily Google searches with a chatbot session instead.
It's not hard to see why, AI can deliver a much more sophisticated and valuable search result than a plain search query. And that's including the dangers of hallucination.
But there's now a new option, which is the smartphone in your pocket. Until fairly recently AI services were focused on the computer experience rather than the mobile experience. But that's all changing with the arrival of more capable AI models which can handle not just text, but also vision and audio.
Apple phones seem to be lagging behind, but for lucky Android users, things are looking much brighter. Here's a roundup of four of the best AI chatbots you should consider installing on your phone. Remember you can install all of them if you want.
Considered by many to be one of the two best AI services in the world, ChatGPT has gone from strength to strength since its launch three years ago. The Android app has recently been updated and now offers sensational image generation on the fly. But where the product really excels is in the interactive audio mode.
Chatting with the AI is increasingly becoming indistinguishable from conversing with a friend. Even the free plan offers this kind of interaction. Anyone who relishes the idea of being able to create awesome imagery on their phone with stunning quality and accuracy should run, not walk, to install this on their Android phone.
If you're a Google or Android user, you'll already be well acquainted with the Gemini AI. You may not see it directly, but Gemini now processes an enormous amount of Google information in the background of their apps. And unlike the other products in this list, Google is already deeply integrated to a large degree in many people's lives, especially with email, search and phones.
Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips.
So the addition of extra AI may seem one step too many for the privacy conscious folk among us. But for those who take the plunge, the new Gemini is extremely capable. The image generation may not be as good as ChatGPT, but it's close. And in all other respects the product is superb. It also comes with a hidden super power, as the user can set how much memory the bot can use to retain past information and chats.
Anthropic has gone from strength to strength, especially on its mobile app. The AI chatbot saw a major upgrade with the introduction of the Claude 4 models.
These newer versions outperformed a lot of the competition, especially when it comes to their coding ability.
It also offered voice features to all users, even those on free plans, to add even more functionality.
Controversial or not, DeepSeek is the one to watch - a hidden jewel in the AI universe which continues to surprise. The key thing about this Chinese super AI is the price. Free, and ever so cheap you won't believe it, are great marketing slogans. But on top of that it's actually a really good AI chatbot. It may not sport all the bells and whistles of the American products, but what it does do, it does extremely well. Web search, deep reasoning and insightful responses make it a winner in my book.
It also has the advantage of offering an open source version which you can run privately on your computer. This is great if you want to do sensitive personal AI stuff like financial budgeting or personal health management. The actual chat interface is rather generic, but you can't have everything.
Pocket pal is the only product on this list which is not based on the cloud. It's a downloadable Android app from the Play store, which lets you access any open source AI model that your phone will run. Now admittedly that's a stingily small number at the moment, but the situation is improving every year.
The recent release of the new small Qwen3 models proves that it is possible to run good quality AI chatbots privately on your phone without suffering degraded performance.
Quick tip: if you have an ancient Android phone like I do, your best bet is to run one of the really small models like the Qwen3 0.6B. This will deliver good performance and decent responses, and take up very little space in your phone's internal memory. Another good option is the LLama 3.2 3B which delivers similar performance. You can download them both from inside the PocketPal app.
Smartphone AI chatbots are improving by the day. Look out for more developments as the major Android smartphone manufacturers start to devote budget to improving the utility of their handsets.

FBI Warns iPhone And Android Messaging App Users Not To Click
As the onslaught, and that's what it is, of cyberattacks targeting smartphone users continues, the Federal Bureau of Investigation has some drastic, yet practical advice: do not click on these messages. Here's what the FBI says that iPhone and Android users must do to stay protected against the cybercriminal hackers carrying out these attacks. It feels like the threat from criminal hackers has never been greater, at least if the number of cybersecurity advisories, law enforcement warnings, and critical alerts from some of the best threat intelligence analysts in the business is anything to go by. From Windows users being urged not to open malicious LNK files and ransomware attacks that are skyrocketing. But it's smartphone users who are once again on the sharp end of many of these evolving threat campaigns. Android users have watched as their contacts are turned into hackers, and iPhone users are now advised to have a special code ready to repel malicious callers. The FBI has not been shy of coming forward with warnings itself: a public service cybersecurity advisory concerning an ongoing malicious texting campaign impersonating officials in U.S. federal and government roles, another regarding smartphone attacks against lawful foreigners in the U.S., and even postings to social media platforms such as X warning members of the public about attackers using AI-generated messages. One thing that many of these threats have in common is the use of smartphone messaging to execute their attacks. SMS phishing, known as smishing by some, and voice message phishing which can be referred to as vishing by the same people who seem to hate the English language, are often employed and often driven by AI tools in the background. Yet, no matter how advanced the attack might seem. No matter how sophisticated it all appears, what with AI being involved and brand or officialdom impersonation involved. They nearly all rely on the same tactic to infect the user, to get the victim to download malware or hand over login credentials. Yes, you've guessed it: a malicious link. Which is where the blunt but accurate FBI warning enters the security equation: Do not click. 'Don't click on anything in an unsolicited email or text message. Look up the company's phone number on your own (don't use the one a potential scammer is providing), and call the company to ask if the request is legitimate,' the FBI said.

WWDC 2025 live: Updates from Apple's keynote including new iOS, iPadOS, Apple Intelligence and more
It's time again for Apple's annual worldwide developer conference, and we're itching to see what the company will officially share today. Last year's WWDC saw the official unveiling of Apple Intelligence — the company's set of updates involving machine learning and language models that its competitors Google and Microsoft had already teed up years ago. At WWDC 2025, we expect to see the usual announcements around the next versions of iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS and visionOS. But instead of various different numbers indicating the generation of each platform like before, this year might see the company adopt a unified year-based naming standard that would result in things being called iOS 26, iPadOS 26, watchOS 26 and such as opposed to iOS 19 and watchOS 12 as anticipated. If you want to watch Apple's keynote presentation for yourself, check out how to watch WWDC 2025 for details on the various places you can find the livestream. For those who prefer following along a third-party liveblog that's largely text- and image-based, scroll down for our coverage right here! The keynote starts at 1PM ET (or 10AM PT) but our liveblog begins hours before that, as we plan to share our experience and impressions live from Apple Park in Cupertino. You should absolutely join us around 10AM ET for the full experience to feel like you're right here with us. The pictures of snacks alone should be worth it. Hello! That's the first word you see when setting up a new Apple device and also on this liveblog! That was not a cliched opening for this at all! Welcome to our live coverage of WWDC 2025. Myself and deputy editor Nate Ingraham are on the ground in Cupertino to bring you all the latest from the company's keynote today. As we make our way to Apple Park, please keep us in your thoughts. I really need all the luck and good vibes to secure a seat that's comfortably situated under shade today.

Here's how Pixel battery health assistance will work to maximize your phone's lifespan
Mishaal Rahman / Android Authority TL;DR Google Pixel devices will soon receive a new battery health assistance feature to help manage the battery's long-term health and performance. The feature will adjust the battery's maximum voltage and charging speed as it ages to prolong device usability. We've enabled the feature before the official release to get an early look at its settings page. Google plans to introduce a new battery health feature on Pixel devices to help manage the battery's long term health and performance. Details about the upcoming battery health assistance feature were first spotted shortly after Google unveiled the Pixel 9a. At the time, we learned that it would automatically adjust the battery's maximum voltage and charging speed as it ages to prolong usability. We now have an early look at its settings page ahead of the official rollout. Google recently released an update for the Settings Services app with all the necessary elements to enable the battery health assistance feature on Pixel devices. Although the feature is still not live for users, Android Authority contributor AssembleDebug manually enabled it on a Pixel 9 to grab the following screenshots. As expected, Google will add the battery health assistance feature to the Battery health settings page on Pixel phones. The page highlights that the feature will help 'manage long term battery health and performance,' and users may notice 'slight changes in charging performance and battery capacity' as the battery ages. Tapping the battery health assistance option will open a new page with a toggle to turn the feature on or off. Google has previously confirmed that the battery health assistance feature will not be limited to the Pixel 9a. The company said the feature will roll out to older Pixel phones as an optional setting this March, suggesting it may be mandatory on the Pixel 9a. If so, the battery health assistance toggle may not be available on the budget-friendly phone. Battery health assistance is expected to roll out to Pixel devices with the stable Android 16 update. We'll update this post as soon as it's available widely. Got a tip? Talk to us! Email our staff at Email our staff at news@ . You can stay anonymous or get credit for the info, it's your choice.
