Next Stop: Rancho Cucamonga!

Bloomberga day ago

Rancho Cucamonga, about 40 miles east of Los Angeles in California's Inland Empire, was made by the automobile. After Interstate 15 opened here in the 1960s, this rural expanse of citrus orchards and vineyards transformed into a commuter town and logistics hub. Families flocked to the single-family homes that replaced farmland, while companies like Reyes Coca-Cola Bottling, flavor maker T. Hasegawa, Frito-Lay, and Amphastar Pharmaceuticals exploited its strategic location at the confluence of three major freeways and the Ontario International Airport.
Now this car-based city may be remade by the train. The private rail company Brightline has broken ground on a high-speed rail line between Las Vegas and Southern California, making Rancho Cucamonga the western terminus of its $12 billion Brightline West project. In a full-circle moment, the city was chosen because of its location along the I-15 freeway, in the median of which the majority of the 218-mile track will run.

Bankrupt Fintech Synapse Asks to Liquidate Instead of Reorganize

A trustee for bankrupt financial-technology firm Synapse Financial Technologies Inc. has asked to convert its Chapter 11 case into liquidation, or dismiss the matter entirely, after the fintech failed to find a buyer for its assets. San Francisco-based Synapse filed for bankruptcy in April 2024, resulting in a number of frozen funds from customers who worked with a litany of its finance app partners, including Yotta Technologies Inc., cryptocurrency exchange Juno and alternative investment platform Yieldstreet Inc.

Solar Mosaic Plans Bankruptcy Filing as Clean-Energy Woes Mount

Solar Mosaic LLC, one of the largest US providers of home solar loans, is planning to file for bankruptcy in the face of market uncertainty over federal support of clean energy, according to people familiar with the matter. The Oakland, California-based company recently stopped issuing loans after a new round of financing fell through due to the US House advancing President Donald Trump's massive tax and spending bill, said the people, who asked not to be identified discussing a private matter. The tax bill would end generous tax incentives for residential solar systems and is now being debated in the Senate.

OpenAI's marketing head takes leave to undergo breast cancer treatment

OpenAI's head of marketing, Kate Rouch, has announced she's stepping away from her role for three months while she undergoes treatment for invasive breast cancer. In a post on LinkedIn, Rouch says that Gary Briggs, Meta's former CMO, will serve as interim head of marketing during her leave. 'Earlier this year — just weeks into my dream job — I was diagnosed with invasive breast cancer,' wrote Rouch. 'For the past five months, I've been undergoing chemo at UCSF while leading our marketing team. It's been the hardest season of life — for me, my husband, and our two young kids.' Rouch says her prognosis is 'excellent' and that she's expected to make a full recovery. '1 in 8 American women will get invasive breast cancer,' she wrote in her post. '42,000 die every year. Rates are rising for young women. I'm sharing my story […] to get their attention and encourage them to prioritize their health over the demands of families and jobs. A routine exam saved my life. It could save yours too.' Rouch, who previously worked with Briggs at Meta, joined OpenAI in December. She formerly was Coinbase's CMO, and before that led brand and product marketing for platforms including Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger and Facebook.
