Atlanta Falcons legend Mike Vick made a surprise appearance in Flowery Branch during Atlanta's OTAs this past week and had high praise for Michael Penix Jr., who is set to start his first full season in the NFL and be a significant contributing face of the franchise in Atlanta.

'I'm excited for Mike. I think this is going to be an amazing season for him,' said Vick. "Just watching him practice it looks like everything has slowed down. He made good reads, moved well in the pocket.'

Vick would also say, 'With some complimentary players around him like Bijan and Drake and Kyle, these guys are really going to do some special things this year." If anyone knows how to be a dynamic or generational talent on the football field, it's Mike Vick.
During his time in Atlanta, Vick made three Pro Bowls while leading the Falcons to two playoff appearances and one NFC Championship appearance during their 2004-2005 season. Over the course of six seasons, Vick threw for 11,505 yards and 71 touchdowns while rushing for 3,859 total yards and 21 touchdowns.

Penix Jr. played in five games last year and started the final three of the season after Kirk Cousins was benched. During that time, Penix completed 58% of his passes and threw for 3 touchdowns.
As last season wound down, Penix Jr. was starting to develop chemistry with wide receiver Drake London. It will be interesting to see how it all comes together in Atlanta if the optimism from late last season transfers over into something special in Atlanta during the 2025 season.
As for Mike Vick, he will be stepping away from sports media and has accepted the head coaching position at Norfolk State University in his home state of Virginia.

Advertisement The Tigers also found themselves a half game ahead of the National League's New York Mets for the best record in Major League Baseball. Detroit is scheduled to take on the Baltimore Orioles Tuesday at 6:35 p.m. ET at M&T Bank Stadium in downtown Baltimore. Recently, former MLB player Trevor Plouffe was featured on the Instagram account of longtime host Chris Rose as he shared a warning with the Tigers franchise about a fierce competitor worth keeping an eye on in the American League West. Advertisement "The thing with the Tigers that worries me is, they're very young," Plouffe said. "And like, you know, they've only started winning recently and the air in the clubhouse is different when there's like expectations and things like that." "Even with different personnel, the vibe in the Astros' clubhouse has always been the same, the standard has always been high even through new managers... You know, if I'm a bettin' man, and I'm betting what team do I think has a better record at the end, I still kind of feel like it's the Astros." Dana White Confirms Jon Jones 'Agreed to Fight' Tom Aspinall, But What Happened Next?

Dana White Confirms Jon Jones 'Agreed to Fight' Tom Aspinall, But What Happened Next? originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The UFC heavyweight division's long-standing limbo took a dramatic turn last week as Dana White finally broke his silence on the Jon Jones vs. Tom Aspinall saga. At the UFC 316 post-fight press conference, White insisted Jon Jones agreed to fight Aspinall and accepted a deal. Advertisement The declaration seemed to promise a resolution to a saga of petty social media spats, retirement threats, and fan petitions demanding Jones be stripped of his title. Yet, as Ariel Helwani pointed out on Uncrowned, White's statement omitted a critical twist. Dana WhitePhoto by Chris Unger/Zuffa LLC In a rant he posted on YouTube, Helwani dissected White's carefully curated narrative, highlighting the gap between the UFC CEO's optimism and the reality of Jones' commitment. Watch the full rant here: 'Confirmation: Jon Jones was offered the deal and accepted the deal. Rewind: Jon Jones was offered the deal, I said it, he finally accepted,' Helwani noted. 'Now, that's the most significant thing that Dana White has said regarding this in a very long time.' Advertisement However, he then revealed that Jones's acceptance of a fight deal was not solid, saying, 'The problem is he didn't tell you the whole story. He didn't tell you about the 'and then he went back on his word' part. He didn't tell you about that part. Eventually, that part will come out, but he didn't tell you about that part right then and there. But there it is.' Helwani speculates that White's press conference remarks were a last-ditch effort to pressure Jones into signing. This claim would be nothing more than speculation if it weren't for Jon Jones's recent social media antics, including his willingness to accept a fight with Francis Ngannou. In that same press conference Helwani alludes to, White also declared he has no power over Jones's career decisions, saying, 'Listen, if the guy wants to retire and doesn't want to fight, [there's] nothing you can do.' Advertisement Interim champion Tom Aspinall, meanwhile, has grown increasingly vocal, declaring himself the undisputed heavyweight king, wishing for the UFC heavyweight division to move on from this saga and dismiss Jones's legacy. The UFC has been facing a pivotal choice for months to either force the heavyweight champion's hand or risk the division's credibility. White's insistence that the fight between Jones and Aspinall rings hollow without contracts. As Helwani warned, 'the whole story' will remain untold.
