At least 25 killed, 800 wounded in Iran's port explosion

Tehran, Apr 27 (UNI) At least 25 people were killed and 800 others injured in a huge explosion at a port on Saturday in Iran's southern province of Hormozgan, media reported Sunday.
The exact cause of the incident has not been determined yet, the official news agency IRNA said.
The explosion occurred at the Port of Shahid Rajaee in the provincial capital Bandar Abbas, after which rescue teams were immediately dispatched to the scene, and all port activities were suspended, the semi-official Tasnim news agency reported.
In remarks to the semi-official Fars news agency on Sunday, Jalal Maleki, spokesman of the Tehran Fire Department, said the massive fire resulting from the blast had been almost contained, although there were still scattered flames, which he described as "not worrisome."
Ahmad Pouyafar, governor of Bandar Abbas, announced on Saturday that all educational centers across the city would be closed on Sunday due to the explosion and consequent air pollution.
Hossein Zafari, spokesperson for the National Disaster Management Organization, told Fars that chemical materials in a container at the port may have caused the blast.
However, the Iranian government's spokeswoman Fatemeh Mohajerani warned against any "hasty speculations" about the cause of the incident before relevant authorities complete the investigations.
What had been confirmed so far was that there were containers, probably with chemical materials, at a corner of the port, she added.
In a post on X, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian extended sympathy over the victims of the explosion, announcing that he had issued a directive for the investigation of the blast and its cause.
He added that Iran's Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni had been dispatched to the province to ensure necessary coordination and address the condition of the injured.
Following the incident, many countries, as well as international organizations and groups, extended condolences to the Iranian people and government.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday expressed deep sorrow and grief over the losses caused by the explosion, according to the Prime Minister's Office.
"We stand with the Iranian government and people in this hour of grief and sorrow," Sharif said, while praying for the swift recovery of those injured in the incident.

We had information that this unscrupulous regime was planning to give the nuclear weapons that they would develop to their terrorist proxies. That's nuclear terrorism on steroids. That would threaten the entire world," he said. So, with God's help and with the goodwill and resolution of all free societies, we shall win," added the Israeli PM. Iran's main ballistic missiles that evaded Israel's air defence include..., their capabilities...

New Delhi: Israeli forces carried out hundreds of attacks one after the other on Iran's nuclear site and military bases on Friday, June 13. After this, Iran also retaliated with ballistic missiles. These ballistic missiles of Iran are directly entering Israel. Israel's air defense system has failed to stop them completely. These missiles are targeting Israel's capital Tel Aviv as well as other Israeli cities. What kind of missiles does Iran have? Iran's ballistic missiles are an important part of its military power and strategic capabilities in the Middle East. In recent years, Iran has added many advanced missiles to its missile system, including long-range missiles, hypersonic missiles and precision-guided missiles. Let's take a look at Iranian missiles: Kheibar/Khorramshahr-4 Range: About 2,000 km Weight: 1500–1800 kg warhead Features: This missile is the fourth generation of Iran's Khorramshahr missile family, introduced in 2023. Fattah-1 Type: Hypersonic medium-range ballistic missile Speed: Mach 13–15 Range: About 1,400 km Features: This is Iran's first hypersonic missile, introduced in 2023. Its high speed and guidance system enable it to evade missile defense systems. Ghadr-110 Range: 1800–2000 km Features: This missile is an advanced version of the Shahab-3A, using liquid fuel first stage and solid fuel second stage. Jihad Range: 1000 km Speed: Mach 8.5 Features: This missile was introduced in 2024 and its structure and platform are similar to the Imad and Qiam missiles. Dezful Range: Over 1,000 km Speed: Mach 7 Features: This missile was introduced in 2019 and it is highly accurate. Fath-360 Range: 100–120 km Speed: Mach 3 Features: It is a mobile, high-speed short-range ballistic missile, introduced in 2022. It is used by both Iran and Russia. Iran missile attack on Israel Iran carried out a massive ballistic missile attack on Israel on 13 June 2025, called 'Operation True Promise 3'. About 150 ballistic missiles were used in this attack, which were fired targeting various military targets in Israel. Although most of the missiles were intercepted by Israel's Iron Dome and US allied systems, some missiles still managed to reach their targets. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) headquarters (Kiryat) in Tel Aviv came under attack, causing significant damage. Nevatim Airbase: This airbase in southern Israel was hit by several missiles, causing large holes in the roofs of two hangars and creating several craters. However, no significant aircraft were destroyed in the attack. Tel Nof Airbase: This airbase in central Israel was also hit by missiles, causing some secondary explosions, possibly caused by ammunition or fuel. This airbase is known for storing Israel's nuclear weapons. Mossad Headquarters (Glilot, near Tel Aviv): Two missiles fell near the Mossad headquarters, but did not cause any significant damage. One missile fell about 500 meters away, causing no major damage.

US denies inviting Pakistan's Army Chief Asim Munir to 250th Army anniversary parade

The White House has firmly denied that any foreign military leaders, including Pakistan's Army Chief General Asim Munir, were invited to the 250th anniversary celebrations of the US Armed Forces. "This is false. No foreign military leaders were invited," a White House official told South Asian media outlets, aiming to put an end to days of swirling speculation. The parade, set for June 14 in Washington, D.C., also coincides with former US President Donald Trump's 79th birthday. It will include tanks, musical performances, air shows, and a fireworks display, running from 11 AM to 6 PM and wrapping up with a night-time concert. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Esse novo alarme com câmera é quase gratuito em São Paulo (consulte o preço) Alarmes Undo Backlash in India over reports Before the denial, Indian political circles had reacted sharply to the rumours. Opposition figures saw the alleged invitation as a diplomatic snub to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government. RAND Corporation's senior defence analyst Derek Grossman called it a 'diplomatic setback' for India. He posted on X: 'For India, the Trump admin's invitation to Pakistani Field Marshal Asim Munir is tantamount to inviting an avowed anti-India terrorist.' Live Events Munir, a controversial figure in Indian discourse, had previously described Kashmir as Pakistan's 'jugular vein' and invoked the two-nation theory, stating, "Our religions are different, our customs are different, our traditions are different, our thoughts are different, our ambitions are different... We are two nations, we are not one nation." PTI plans protest in Washington Even before the White House statement, Pakistan's political opposition began mobilising in the US. The Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party's US chapter announced a protest in front of the Pakistani Embassy in Washington, D.C. The rally, supported by over a dozen diaspora groups, is being held against what they called 'undeclared martial law' in Pakistan. The protest also demands free and fair elections, reflecting anger towards Munir's role in domestic repression. Kurilla praises Pakistan as 'phenomenal partner' At a Congressional hearing, US Central Command (CENTCOM) chief General Michael Kurilla praised Pakistan's role in counterterrorism efforts. He stated: 'Through a phenomenal partnership with Pakistan, they have gone after ISIS-Khorasan, killing dozens of them. Through a relationship we have with them, providing intelligence, they have captured at least five ISIS-Khorasan high-value individuals.' Kurilla gave specific credit to Munir for the arrest of Mohammad Sharifullah alias Jafar, a suspect in the 2021 Kabul airport bombing that killed 13 American soldiers and over 160 civilians. Kurilla said, 'The first person Munir called was me and said, 'I've caught him, I'm willing to extradite him back to the US. Please tell the secretary of defence and the president.'' Balanced ties with both India and Pakistan Despite warm words for Islamabad, Kurilla made clear that the US values its relationship with India as well. "We need to have a relationship with Pakistan and with India. I do not believe it is a binary switch that we can't have one with Pakistan if we have a relationship with India. We should look at the merits of the relationship for the positives that it has," Kurilla told lawmakers. This remark reflects Washington's careful approach in South Asia, where tensions between India and Pakistan often challenge American diplomacy. Diplomatic signals and strategic optics Foreign policy expert Michael Kugelman weighed in on the speculation around Munir's travel plans. He suggested that if the Pakistani Army Chief does visit, it may involve meetings at CENTCOM. 'Much is unclear about Gen. Munir's reported upcoming trip to the US. But if he comes, a CENTCOM visit is a possibility. He and Gen Kurilla have met 3 times in less than 2 years. Kurilla praised him yesterday in Hill testimony. US-Pak officer-to-officer ties are generally strong,' said Kugelman. Sources claimed Munir was set to meet senior Pentagon and State Department officials during his trip. However, with the White House ruling out his attendance at the parade, the visit—if it happens—will now likely unfold in a lower profile format. Amid the furore, US officials also reiterated their strategic partnership with India. State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce confirmed that Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau recently met with a visiting Indian parliamentary delegation led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor. According to Bruce, the two sides discussed counterterrorism cooperation and reaffirmed shared democratic values. While the storm over Munir's supposed invitation seems to have calmed, it has revealed the tightrope the United States continues to walk in balancing its vital security interests in a volatile region.
