BBC News4 hours ago

Immanuel Feyi-Waboso called up by England despite ban

Immanuel Feyi-Waboso will still travel to Argentina and the US as part of England's 36-player squad despite receiving a two-match ban for a dangerous tackle last Saturday. Feyi-Waboso, on his first outing for either club or country since December, was shown a red card with just 33 minutes on the clock for a reckless high tackle on Antoine Hastoy in the uncapped fixture between England and France at the Allianz Stadium. Steve Borthwick, the England head coach, has opted to include the 22-year-old in his touring squad despite the Exeter wing only being available for the third match of the three-Test tour, against the US. Immanuel Feyi-Waboso's tackle. #ENGvFRA — Jared Wright (@jaredwright17) June 21, 2025 As with the loss to France XV last Saturday, Jamie George and George Ford will co-captain the touring party which contains 10 uncapped players. The two casualties from the loss to Les Bleus last weekend are Jack Kenningham and Raffi Quirke, both of whom came off the bench at Twickenham but neither will travel to Buenos Aires as part of the 36-player squad on Tuesday. The uncapped contingent comprises the Gloucester trio of Charlie Atkinson, Arthur Clark and Seb Atkinson - the latter of whom impressed against France XV - Harlequins duo Oscar Bear and Luke Northmore, Joe Carpenter of Sale, Emmanuel Iyogun of Northampton, and Bath trio Will Muir, Max Ojomoh and Guy Pepper, all of whom started their Premiership final victory. England are shorn of 13 players who are currently in Australia with the British and Irish Lions but there are some high-profile injuries, too: the Northampton trio of Fraser Dingwall, George Furbank and Ollie Sleightholme have all been omitted due to injury along with George Martin and Ollie Lawrence, among others. Ben Curry, however, who was listed as present for rehabilitation in the build-up to the match against France, is included in the touring squad. 'For some of the younger players, this will be their first experience of touring overseas with England,' said Borthwick. 'Travelling together helps strengthen team bonds and offers a valuable chance for new players to integrate into our environment. 'It's an exciting test for us, and we're looking forward to seeing how we continue to evolve as a team.' England face Los Pumas, who defeated the Lions in Dublin on Friday night, in La Plata on July 5 and once again in San Juan a week later before travelling to Washington to take on the US on July 19. The Tests against Argentina will be live on Sky Sports before RugbyPass stream the clash with the Eagles.
