India going through undeclared Emergency now, says Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday (June 25, 2025) claimed that the country is going through an undeclared Emergency as the "Sangh Parivar government" is trying to do away with the Constitution. Mr. Vijayan made the allegation in a Facebook post in which he described the Emergency declared by the then-Indira Gandhi government in 1975 as "the darkest chapter in the history of Indian democracy." The CPI(M) veteran noted that this dark chapter has completed half a century. He said the declaration of Emergency on June 25, 1975, was not a sudden or unexpected event but the "brutal culmination of years of authoritarian tendencies and the erosion of civil liberties in India." Mr. Vijayan also said that the 50th anniversary of the Emergency serves as a reminder of the "horror" of the current political situation in the country. "The country is currently going through an undeclared Emergency. If Indira Gandhi abused the Constitution, then today the Sangh Parivar government is trying to do away with it," he alleged in the post, which also carried a link to an article on the Emergency published in the CPI(M) mouthpiece, Deshabhimani. Mr. Vijayan claimed that the Emergency is not merely a lesson in history for those who lived through it but remains a "burning memory of state terror." The declaration of Emergency in 1975 was not a spontaneous event, but the culmination of tyrannical tendencies that surfaced in independent India. 50 years have gone by, and today we're facing an undeclared emergency under the Sangh Parivar regime, enforced through… — Pinarayi Vijayan (@pinarayivijayan) June 25, 2025 He stressed that the memories of the Emergency period must be preserved as a source of inspiration for future struggles and passed on to the next generations. During the Emergency, Mr. Vijayan, a senior CPI(M) leader, was imprisoned for 18 months for organising "underground political activities" in Kerala. He also faced alleged police torture while in custody.

Kerala LoP Satheesan urges PM Modi for Indian expatriates' safety in Gulf
Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) [India], June 24 (ANI): Expressing serious concern over the worsening situation in the Gulf, Leader of Opposition in the Kerala Legislative Assembly V D Satheesan on Tuesday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to safeguard Indian expatriates in Qatar and other Gulf countries. In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Satheesan expressed concern over the rapidly escalating tensions and the imminent threat of war in the region. 'It has come to light that Iran has launched an attack on United States forces stationed at the Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, as part of its retaliatory actions, raising alarm about a possible broader conflict,' he wrote. The letter, shared in a post on X, highlighted the significant Indian diaspora, particularly from Kerala, residing in the Gulf. Satheesan emphasised the 'critical emotional and social significance' of ensuring the safety of these expatriates, given their contributions to families and communities back home. 'As you are well aware, a large number of Indian expatriates, particularly from my home state of Kerala, reside and work across the Gulf countries. In this volatile situation, the safety and welfare of these individuals is of critical emotional and social significance, not only to their families but also to the people of Kerala as a whole,' he urged. Satheesan called on the Union Government to act with urgency, highlighting the possibility of further escalation and emphasising the need for proactive measures to ensure the protection and welfare of Indian nationals in the region. This comes after Iran, in retaliation to the US strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, launched multiple missiles at US military installations in Qatar and Iraq, including the Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, the largest US military base in the region, CNN reported. The conflict began on June 13 when Israel launched a massive airstrike on Iranian military and nuclear sites, code-named 'Operation Rising Lion'. In retaliation, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) initiated a large-scale drone and missile campaign called 'Operation True Promise 3', targeting Israeli fighter jet fuel production facilities and energy supply centres. Kerala film policy conclave is held in August
T'puram: Kerala Film Policy Conclave will be held in Thiruvananthapuram on Aug 2 and 3 as part of the state's film policy formulation. The conclave, which will take place at the Sankaranarayanan Thampi Hall in the Kerala Legislative Assembly complex, will be inaugurated by chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan under the chairmanship of the minister of cultural affairs, Saji Cherian. The conclave will comprehensively discuss various aspects of cinema and will include representatives from 17 states that have formulated film policies, the National Film Development Corporation, the ministry of information and broadcasting, the central ministry of culture and tourism, international representatives from the Indian cinema sector, various film organisations and experts from the fields of labour and law. There will be in-depth discussions on about twelve topics related to the film industry. Following the conclave, govt aims to publish a draft of the film policy within a month. The conclave has been the biggest demand of the women's collective in the cinema industry since the Justice Hema Committee submitted the report to state govt. The committee was appointed by state govt to look into the alleged atrocities against women in the film industry and to suggest remedial measures. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Manchas, rugas e pele opaca? Police cases registered against the male actors based on the statements given by a few actors before the committee are also on the verge of closure, due to the female actors who deposed before the committee not being interested in going ahead with the police cases. When reports of the police withdrawing the cases registered came out, a few of the actors from the women's collective came out against state govt, remembering the unfulfilled promise of convening a film conclave to formulate a film policy.
