European Gas Price Rises Amid Storage Refilling Concerns
0825 GMT – European natural-gas prices rise as worries over the pace of storage replenishment resurface just two months into the stockpiling season and ahead of a key November deadline. Analysts at ANZ say the pressure is due to challenges in auctioning capacity at prices sufficient to cover operating costs. They warn the shortfall could prompt government intervention. Despite lingering concerns, demand on the continent was down almost 5% in May, while imports of liquefied natural gas continued at robust levels. In early trade, the benchmark Dutch TTF contract gains 0.7% to 36.12 euros a megawatt hour, but is still down 1.5% on the week. (giulia.petroni@wsj.com)

Uncle Frank's Dutch Family
Michael Johnson reminds readers that the Dutch beautifully remember the Allies' sacrifice in World War II by adopting gravesites at the Netherlands American Cemetery (Letters, May 28). The wait list for doing so is longer than one year, he notes, 'as most have been adopted and are passed down from one generation to the next.' The tradition is personal for me. In June 2019, after attending the 75th-anniversary commemorations of D-Day in Normandy, France, I travelled to Margraten to visit my great uncle's grave. I was the first in my family to have seen Frank A. Johnson since he departed for Europe in the autumn of 1944. During my visit I was met by Frank's 'adoptive' family: a wonderful husband and wife, who, having never met me before, drove three hours to join me at the site. They both said that if it 'were not for men like your great uncle Frank, we would probably still be speaking German.'

FTSE 100 on Best Weekly Winning Streak Since January
The bittersweet week is closing out for UK markets. The FTSE 100 is getting closer to its record high, but London suffered a couple of blows in its ambitions to turn around a moribund IPO picture. Here's what's been happening today: The FTSE 100 is up for a sixth day in a row and is creeping closer to notching up a new record high. It's actually outdoing the Magnificent 7 big tech stocks by a fair margin. Surging defence and gold mining stocks are helping the index, as it a shift in its composition. On the former, BAE Systems is now bigger than BP. And on the latter, Fresnillo is outpacing Rio Tinto by a distance. The UK's lack of tech stocks, and the departure of Wise's primary listing, is likely to be a self-perpetuating cycle. And Manchester United shares have surged the most since 2022 in New York as, despite a poor season for the men's team, the club raised its earnings guidance.
