Rabada dismisses Carey lbw for 43
Thanks, as always, for your company on another entertaining day - let's hope for more of the same tomorrow.
If you missed any of the action, my colleague Timothy Abraham has got you covered with his match report from Lord's and keep an eye out for the Test Match Special podcast on BBC Sounds later on.
We'll be back from 10:15 tomorrow morning, with Australia resuming 218 runs ahead. See you then!

Content: South Africa bowler Lungi Ngidi speaking to TMS: "It's in the balance right now. Two wickets in hand. If we can knock those over and maybe chase 225, people are going to get their money's worth.
"I guess that's what a Test Championship final should bring. A lot of guys have put their hands up. It's been really exciting and tough cricket out there.
"We were very disappointed not to get to Australia's total. We were up against a world-class attack. Every mistake you make is a chance to them and I give credit where credit's due. They bowled well.
"When we started bowling we realised there was enough in the wicket to bring it closer. Finding a bit of rhythm was all I was looking to do. If you told me this is the position we'd be in at the end of the day, I'd definitely have taken it."

Title: 'We've seen some quality bowling'
Content: Australia bowler Mitchell Starc speaking to TMS:
"You bowl good balls, good spells, and you'll be rewarded with a few loose shots over the two days but we've seen some quality bowling.
"There's still enough in the wicket. In England when it's overcast, the ball seems to do a bit more. Everyone is quick to jump on the batters but you've got to notice the good bowling from both sides."
On Pat Cummins: "He does it time and time again. He led from the front before he was captain and now as captain as well. The quality and skills he has in his pocket - I'm thrilled for him to get a bagful. To go past 300 is a special effort."

They slumped to 73-7 and were in danger of throwing away their first-innings advantage, only for Alex Carey and Mitchell Starc to add 61 for the eighth wicket.

Sir Alastair CookEx-England captain on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra
The modern player is far better suited to a target. The clarity it gives a modern player will help.
South Africa are going to have to come out and play a certain way and buy into it. I think if they try and do it in 70 or 80 overs, they won't do it.
Maybe the captain or coach should say ball one, we're going to go for it. In a small chase, one person playing the innings of a lifetime and they get there.

I don't think it's 50:50. I think it's 65:35 for Australia.
Anything over 200 is really tough. Initially, I thought 140 to be honest. If we edge towards 240, it's not going to happen for South Africa.

See the savage sledge from the Marsh brothers aimed at decorated England quick Jimmy Anderson as well as Ashes villain Stuart Broad
Mitchell Marsh is currently on the outer when it comes to the Australian Test team - but it didn't stop the all-rounder from uttering a savage sledge about retired English paceman Jimmy Anderson. Marsh, 33, spoke to the North Melbourne playing group this week ahead of their AFL 'home' clash against Fremantle on Saturday night at Optus Stadium - and 'Bison' couldn't resist having a playful dig at Anderson, who has 704 Test wickets to his name. 'In your career, who was one bowler you found easy to get away,' one of the Kangaroos stars asked Marsh. Marsh's response was brutal: ' James he played in Australia, he was pedestrian.' He then quickly realised he was on camera, with Marsh hilariously backtracking. 'Sorry I didn't mean that,' he sheepishly said. Marsh then referenced Anderson's '600 wickets' - and then it was older brother Shaun's turn to liven up the room. 'I'll say Stuart Broad,' he quipped. Ashes villain Broad was also a noted performer at Test level, snaring 604 wickets in his career. The paceman - who never hid his dislike for Australia's stars in his playing days - clearly hasn't changed since hanging up his spikes in 2023. This week he acted as a consultant for South Africa in the lead up to the World Test Championship final against Pat Cummins' men. Broad revealed how he aimed to help the Proteas pace attack at Lord's. 'I certainly won't be going in and talking about individuals' actions before one of the biggest games of their careers,' he said. 'It's very much about the tactics of that particular ground and the nuances which that slope brings. A lot of overseas bowlers can sometimes take a spell to get used to playing there.' It seems to have worked - South Africa need just 69 runs - with eight wickets in hand - to win the final. Play resumes from 7.30pm AEST on Saturday, with the Proteas chasing their first ICC trophy in 27 years.

Sponsors drop Aussie Olympian Heath Ryan after horse whipping video goes viral - 'shocked and heartbroken'
Aussie Olympian Heath Ryan has been dropped by two major sponsors after shocking footage emerged of the equestrian star whipping a horse 42 times. Prydes EasiFeed and Bates Saddles - both long time supporters of Ryan - announced separately on Friday they have severed ties with Ryan. In a statement, Bates Saddles said they were 'shocked and heartbroken' by the damning vision. Newcastle based Ryan, 66, has also been suspended indefinitely from competition by Equestrian Australia. The governing body confirmed they received a formal complaint from a member of the public - and have since launched an investigation into the matter. As a result, Ryan is provisionally suspended from the sport. The suspension was mirrored by the international governing body, Fédération Équestre Internationale (FEI). According to News Corp, Equestrian Australia said in a statement they were 'extremely alarmed and concerned by the treatment of the horse shown in the footage.' The RSPCA are said to be 'making further enquiries' and the Australian Olympic Committee are aware of the video - but it remains unknown if they will take further action. Earlier this week, Ryan insisted he was on a 'rescue mission' after horrific footage emerged of the international equestrian star whipping a horse more than 40 times at a private stable. Ryan, who competed at the 2008 Games in Beijing in the dressage team event, issued a statement online after the confronting vision appeared on social media via US-based Facebook page Dressage Hub. He conceded the footage is 'awful' - but maintained he was doing his utmost to ensure the horse wasn't sent to the slaughter house. Ryan also claimed the vision was posted 'by an unhappy ex-employee.' 'Oh my goodness! The most awful video of me on a young horse has just surfaced,' his lengthy Facebook post began. 'This horse was dropped off at my place on his way to the knackery. His name is Nico. He was 6 years of age. A beautiful type. '(After the repeated whipping) I rode Nico for another couple of days and he responded very well. 'All of this transpired sincerely with the horse's best interests the sole consideration. 'I (also) need to add that this happened about two years the video has been posted by an unhappy ex-employee. 'All I can say is that this awful video was collateral damage of me from the bottom of my heart launching a rescue mission.' Ryan has competed in equestrian events in Australia for decades, with his crowning achievement an appearance at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Heath Ryan's lengthy statement after the confronting vision appeared on social media via Facebook page Dressage Hub He is also the brother of triple Olympic equestrian gold medallist Matt Ryan, who was part of the eventing team who famously stormed to victory at the Sydney Games in 2000. The incident follows British golden girl Charlotte Dujardin sensationally quitting just days before the 2024 Paris Olympics after a video emerged of her allegedly whipping a horse on the legs repeatedly. Last December, Dujardin was suspended from the sport for 12 months by the International Federation for Equestrian Sports (FEI), as the six-time Olympic medallist conceded she made an 'an error of judgement' during a coaching session. Dujardin had returned to competition leading into Paris after giving birth to her first child Isabella in March of 2023.

Security fears amplified after axed Queensland Origin star Daly Cherry-Evans is grabbed by a fan after night to forget on the Gold Coast
The NRL is expected to beef up security following a concerning incident involving Manly skipper Daly Cherry-Evans on the Gold Coast. A supporter - dressed in Sea Eagles gear - managed to make his way onto Cbus Super Stadium post game on Friday night where he grabbed the recently axed Queensland Origin halfback. Cherry-Evans was visibly stunned before security tackled the man and removed him from the venue. It followed a night to forget for the veteran halfback, who was poor against the Titans. Plenty of footy fans anticipated Cherry-Evans would have a point to prove after the Maroons skipper was overlooked for game two in Perth, but he was outplayed by his opposite Jayden Campbell. Former Manly star Kieran Foran turned back the clock with a vintage performance for the hosts - and their coach Des Hasler would have been delighted to get a win against the club who sacked him in 2022. Post game, Cherry-Evans was pressed on reports from Sam Walker's manager the Roosters have gone cold on signing him for 2026 and beyond due to his alarming dip in form. 'I don't sort of understand that stuff,' Cherry-Evans said. 'Sort of stay out of it. All I can do is control my footy at will be speculation.' Sea Eagles coach Anthony Siebold conceded his team were off the pace. 'We missed far too many tackles which is an attitude thing,' he said. 'We started well in the first 10 minutes and after that we were outplayed and couldn't get back into the contest. 'It comes back to attitude and being consistent individually and collectively.' Compounding the poor performance was backrower Haumole Olakau'atu suffering a dislocated shoulder when attempting to score a second half try. He is tipped to face a lengthy stint on the sidelines. Questions also need to asked about the fitness of fullback Tom Trbojevic, who was well below his best on the Glitter Strip. Rumours continue to swirl 'Turbo' is battling another serious hamstring injury, but the club have been coy about his fitness.
