Google today released Android 16 QPR1 Beta 2.1, the latest beta update for its Quarterly Platform Release which will be known as the Pixel Feature Drop when it is launched in September. I've just installed the update on my Pixel 6 Pro and you can too if you have a Pixel 6 device and newer. Simply go to. At the same time, the Google Play system update was also ready so you might want to press that button once you've installed the latest QPR beta.
The
Android 16 QPR1 Beta 2.1 update is version BP31.250523.010 and it features the following fixes for compatible Pixel handsets:
The "Approve" button in the Device Admin settings is transparent and invisible (Issue #419144521)
The lock screen sound toggle shows as off but sounds still play (Issue #423985494)
The Android back button intermittently fails to function (Issue #412691179, Issue #417434626, Issue #420283260)
A crash in the launcher when swiping from the bottom
The update comes with the June 5, 2025 Security Update.

The most important issues to fix include the back button taking time off every so often, and watching the Pixel Launcher crash when swiping up from the bottom. The latter is an unfortunate bug since swiping up from the bottom is how you open the Pixel Launcher! And I have to say that there is a good chance we might see
Android 16 QPR1 Beta 2.2 very soon. That's because my
Pixel 6 Pro has crashed a couple of times since I installed the latest beta release and the phone got so hot I was able to fry some eggs on it.
According to one Redditor, the constant crashing of the phone is coming from the Identity Check feature so do not enable it if you've installed
Android 16 QPR1 Beta 2.1. This is the feature that requires the device owner to use explicit biometric authentication like the fingerprint sensor or face unlock to perform "sensitive actions" on their phone or to make changes to their Google Account.
Have you installed the new Android 16 QPR1 beta?
Yes, I always install the latest QPR beta update.
It depends on the bug fixes and new features.
Not if the app is causing the device to crash.
I never install beta updates on my phone.

Identity Check kicks in once you are outside of your designated "trusted places" (like your home or work). This way if someone grabs your phone and has physical control of the device, they still can't get into your apps thanks to the fingerprint sensor and face unlock. You can also set your Pixel display to lock if this feature detects that someone grabbed your phone and ran off with it. You can also lock your screen remotely up to two times each day.

WhatsApp now lets you summarize unread messages with the help of AI
Last month, we learned that WhatsApp was working on a feature that would let users summarize unread messages in chats, allowing them to catch up on conversations quickly. Well, the development and testing of this feature are now complete, as WhatsApp has officially announced its stable release. WhatsApp is calling this feature "Message Summaries," which uses Meta AI to "privately and quickly" summarize unread messages in a chat. The GIF below shows how it works. You can tap on the unread messages count in the chat, and WhatsApp will generate a bulleted summary of the messages. The Message Summaries feature uses Meta's Private Processing technology, allowing Meta AI to generate message summaries. WhatsApp claims this technology also ensures third parties can't read your messages or summaries, not even Meta or WhatsApp. People in the chat can't see your message summaries either. Besides, the Message Summaries feature is optional and is turned off by default, and you can use the "Advanced chat privacy" setting to decide which chats can be shared for AI features. WhatsApp said Message Summaries is available to users in the US in the English language, and it plans to expand the availability to other regions with support for more languages later this year. Trump Mobile removes key T1 Phone feature from the website
Still, most analysts didn't believe that the Trump T1 could be made in the U.S. since it would require a price well above the $499 being charged for the T1. The only phone known to be made in America is Purism's Liberty Phone which is priced at $2,000 for a device with half the iPhone's memory, twice the thickness, and only a few downloadable apps. Even though making the Trump T1 Phone in America doesn't seem possible, even critics of this president knew not to doubt him when he has a certain goal in mind. The Trump Mobile website no longer pushes the idea that the T1 is Made in America. | Image credit-Trump Mobile However, this time it appears that despite a strong desire to build the Trump T1 in domestic factories, the Trump Mobile team realizes that such a thing cannot come to fruition so quickly. For example, it took the Liberty Phone six years to go from idea to finished product. Now, the Trump Mobile website no longer says that the device is "Made in America" and resorts to other comments such as one that says the T1 is "brought to life right here in the USA," and that it is "proudly American." Despite the changes made to the copy used in the website, Trump Mobile spokesperson Chris Walker said in a statement that "T1 phones are proudly being made in America." Walker followed up by adding that "Speculation to the contrary is simply inaccurate." Back on June 16th when the Trump T1 was introduced, the Trump Organization said that the handset is a "sleek, gold smartphone engineered for performance and proudly designed and built in the United States for customers who expect the best from their mobile carrier." -Trump Mobile If you haven't read through the specs yet, the Trump T1 features: A 6.25-inch AMOLED display with a center punch-hole selfie camera and a 120Hz refresh rate. 50MP rear-facing main camera with 2MP Depth Sensor, 2MP Macro Lens. In-display fingerprint sensor and AI-based facial recognition feature. 12GB RAM, 256 GB expandable storage, 3.5mm headphone jack. 5000 mAh battery with 20W PD charging. Android 15 pre-installed. You can pre-order the Trump T1 by visiting the Trump Mobile site, completing the application, and paying $100. You'll be billed the remaining amount ($399) once the phone ships. You'll have to pay for your first month of Trump Mobile wireless service to pre-order the phone. You can use the service right away with your current phone, or pay the first month of service today and wait to receive your Trump T1 before using Trump Mobile. The Trump Mobile website now says, "The T1SM Phone isn't just powerful—it's brought to life right here in the USA. With American hands behind every device, we bring care, precision, and trusted quality to every detail." Secure your connection now at a bargain price!
