Fans threaten to boycott 'The White Lotus' over controversial storyline involving Patrick Schwarzenegger and Sam Nivola

Express Tribune24-03-2025

HBO's hit anthology series The White Lotus is making waves again—this time not just for its picturesque location or satirical bite, but for a storyline that has left viewers unsettled. Set in a luxurious Thai resort, the show's latest season follows the wealthy Ratliff family, among others, as secrets and tension bubble beneath the surface.
A recent episode introduced a highly controversial narrative involving brothers Saxon (played by Patrick Schwarzenegger) and Lochlan (Sam Nivola), which has generated strong reactions online. The scene in question involved a party on a yacht and a series of dares that quickly escalated. A later revelation in the episode suggested that one brother may have crossed boundaries while another character was present—leading many viewers to express concern and discomfort.
'It's the most shocking turn the show has taken,' one user posted. Another wrote, 'To say this episode is disturbing would be an understatement.'
The creators of The White Lotus, known for pushing dramatic boundaries, have yet to address the growing public reaction. However, both lead actors have defended the direction of the show. 'There's some sensationalism, but then there's also the stuff behind the wall of the character and what he's dealing with,' said Schwarzenegger in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. Nivola added, 'We really trusted [creator] Mike [White]. It always serves the story.'
Fans of the show are clearly divided. Some have praised the boldness of the writing, while others have threatened to stop watching entirely. 'Please let there be no more of this kind of storyline,' one user posted, while another added, 'The plot this season has gone too far.'
As The White Lotus continues its third season, one thing is certain—it hasn't stopped sparking conversations, for better or worse.

'The Waltons' and 'Sanford & Son' star Lynn Hamilton dies at 95 at her Chicago home

Veteran television actress Lynn Hamilton, known for her memorable roles in The Waltons and Sanford & Son, has died at her Chicago home at the age of 95. She died of natural causes on June 19, her former manager and publicist, Rev. Calvin Carson, told The Hollywood Reporter. Hamilton portrayed Donna Harris, the girlfriend of Redd Foxx's Fred Sanford, in Sanford & Son, a role written specifically for her after an impressive day-player performance. She also played Verdie Grant Foster, the Waltons' neighbour and close friend, in the long-running CBS family drama The Waltons. Born on April 25, 1930, in Yazoo City, Mississippi, Hamilton moved to Chicago with her family as a child. Her stage career began in New York, where she appeared on Broadway in productions including Only in America and Face of a Hero. She later joined the Seattle Repertory Theatre in 1966. Hamilton also starred as Vivian Potter in NBC's soap opera Generations and appeared in Dangerous Women alongside Katherine Justice and Casper Van Dien. Her extensive television career included recurring roles in 227, Sunset Beach, and The Practice, with additional appearances in shows such as Cold Case, NYPD Blue, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and The Golden Girls. In a 2009 interview, she reflected on her casting in Sanford & Son, explaining that the showrunners needed someone 'dignified' to balance Fred Sanford's brash personality. Hamilton is survived by a lasting legacy in American television. She was married to poet and playwright Frank Jenkins from 1964 until his passing in 2014.

Jonathan Bailey has confirmed he will continue his role in Bridgerton, even as his career expands with high-profile film roles. The actor, who stars as Anthony Bridgerton, recently wrapped production on the Netflix drama's fourth season, expected to release in 2026. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Bailey assured that despite the show's rotating focus on different characters each season, he remains proud to be part of the ensemble. 'I've never been someone who's like, 'Thanks, bye.' It's not in my nature,' he said, emphasising the sense of continuity and collaboration the series offers. Bailey's return comes as he takes on leading roles in global projects, including Wicked and Jurassic World Rebirth, set to premiere this summer. Filming on Bridgerton remains demanding, but Bailey credits the production's structure and loyal audience as reasons to stay involved. 'I know how important familiarity of character and storyand consistency is in long-running series,' he added. Since debuting in 2020, Bridgerton has become one of Netflix's most successful original series, and Bailey's portrayal of Viscount Bridgerton helped lead season 2 to record viewership. His continued involvement reassures fans of the show's core cast stability amid broader changes.

Ralph Fiennes has one key tip for HBO's next Voldemort

As excitement builds around HBO's upcoming Harry Potter TV series, original Voldemort actor Ralph Fiennes has weighed in with a bit of unconventional and hilarious advice for whoever ends up taking over the iconic role. Speaking to Entertainment Tonight while promoting 28 Years Later alongside co-star Jodie Comer, Fiennes was asked what guidance he'd offer to the next actor brave enough to portray the dark wizard. 'Make sure you can handle the long, flowing robes, and don't trip over them,' Fiennes said with a laugh. 'Practice your long, flowing robe walk.' Reflecting on the behind-the-scenes realities of playing the role from 2005 to 2011, Fiennes revealed a lesser-known costume issue he faced while filming the original Harry Potter film series. The tights, originally part of a one-piece costume, proved more trouble than they were worth. 'They had a gusset that kept getting lower and lower throughout the day, it became really uncomfortable,' he shared. Eventually, he requested a change: 'I then asked for individual tights, like a garter belt,' he said, adding with a grin, 'So I enjoyed teasing the stunt guys by lifting up my robes and showing them my garter belt.' HBO's reboot, which aims to closely follow J.K. Rowling's beloved books, is slated to arrive in late 2026 or early 2027, according to HBO and Max Content CEO Casey Bloys. While casting for the role of Voldemort remains under wraps, fans are already speculating about who might step into Fiennes' shoes.
