NNA - Statement issued by the legal representatives of Major General Abbas Ibrahim
Attorneys Samer Hassan El-Hajj, Ahmad Shawqi Al-Mustarah, and Qassem Mohammad Karim:
On April 11, 2025, Major General Abbas Ibrahim appeared for the session designated for his interrogation by the Honorable Judicial Investigator in the Beirut Port Explosion case. This is despite his prior submission of a lawsuit against the state concerning the liability arising from the acts of judicial judges, filed before the General Assembly of the Court of Cassation. He also presented at the outset his declaration affirming his reliance on the administrative immunity stipulated under Article 61 of the Civil Servants Law No. 112/1959.
Subsequently, he informed the Honorable Judicial Investigator that he had no objection to proceeding with the interrogation, even though the latter had previously issued a decision in which he considered himself not subject to the rules and procedures governing disqualification, recusal, litigation, and other similar measures stipulated by law.
We affirm here that Major General Abbas Ibrahim's attendance is a reaffirmation that he remains under the authority of the law and the judiciary, and a mark of his respect for the families of the martyrs and victims, his belief in justice and truth, and his commitment to upholding legal procedures and the course of justice—not to obstruct it or evade it.
We conclude this statement by expressing our hope that the investigation will proceedEnglish Legal Translation
