Could the Nets miss on Giannis Antetokounmpo thanks to Dwight Howard?

Yahoo3 days ago

The Brooklyn Nets are entering this offseason with plenty to think about when it comes to how they are going to add to the roster in preparation for the 2025-26 campaign. Brooklyn seems to have a chance at being able to trade for Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo, but there is a possibility that Antetokounmpo may stay in Milwaukee thanks to a former NBA great.
ESPN's Shams Charania reported on Monday that Antetokounmpo is "is open-minded about exploring whether his best long-term fit is remaining in Milwaukee or playing elsewhere" for the first time since he has been with the Bucks. However, with the rumors that Antetokounmpo could be considering playing for another team next season, Hall-of-Famer Dwight Howard weighed on what he thinks the Greek forward should do.

"Don't leave Giannis coming from someone who been there," Howard wrote on X in reference to what Antetokounmpo could do this summer. While Antetokounmpo is likely going to consult with many people in his life when it comes to the decision that he makes this offseason, it's fair to wonder how much he will listen to outside forces such as Howard, who played for several teams throughout the league during his career.
Howard, who is most known for his time with the Orlando Magic, played for six other teams during his 18 years in the NBA, including the Houston Rockets and the Los Angeles Lakers, whom he won a championship with during the 2019-20 campaign. Antetokounmpo, who is in his 12th season in the Association, appeared to want to remain in Milwaukee as reports indicated that he never made it known that he wanted to go elsewhere.
Howard isn't the first person to suggest that Antetokounmpo should remain with the Bucks as teammate Bobby Portis suggested that Antetokounmpo wanted to have a career like Tim Duncan, Kobe Bryant, and Stephen Curry by spending his entire career with one team. For Brooklyn, Charania's report shows that there is light at the end of the tunnel in terms of their pursuit of Antetokounmpo, but it's possible that voices like Howard and Portis could convince him to stay in Milwaukee.

Manny Machado homers again as Padres defeat Brewers 2-0

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Manny Machado homered for a second straight game and five San Diego pitchers combined on a four-hit shutout as the Padres defeated the Milwaukee Brewers 2-0 on Friday night. Machado's eighth-inning homer off Grant Anderson was his ninth of the season. It came one day after he hit his 350th career homer in a 3-2 loss at San Francisco, making him the 33rd player to reach that milestone in his age-32 season or earlier. Machado turns 33 on July 6. San Diego's other run came when Luis Arraez singled home Tyler Wade in the third. Wandy Peralta (3-0) earned the win after replacing starter Randy Vásquez and striking out Christian Yelich to strand runners on second and third in the fifth. Robert Suarez retired the side in order in the ninth to earn his MLB-leading 20th save in 22 opportunities. Vásquez walked four while striking out two and allowing two hits in 4 2/3 innings. Milwaukee's Chad Patrick (3-5) struck out six and gave up one run, four hits and three walks in six innings. The 26-year-old rookie lowered his ERA to 2.84. The Brewers left runners in scoring position in the second, fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh innings. Key moment After Jackson Chourio and Yelich hit consecutive two-out singles in the seventh, Adrian Morejon struck out William Contreras to preserve San Diego's 1-0 lead. Machado then provided the Padres some insurance when he led off the eighth by sending an 0-2 pitch inside the left-field foul pole. Key stat The Brewers left 10 men on base and went 1 of 9 with runners in scoring position. Up next RHP Stephen Kolek (3-1, 3.47 ERA) starts for the Padres and LHP José Quintana (4-1, 2.77) pitches for the Brewers when this three-game series continues Saturday. ___ AP MLB:
