Suspect pleads guilty to 2022 fatal stabbing of romantic partner in Douglas County
A Douglas County man pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter charges on Tuesday in the death of a woman he was romantically involved with.
Officials with the Douglas County District Attorney's Office announced 35-year-old Jamie Morel pleaded guilty to the charges of voluntary manslaughter, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of drug related objects.
On Nov. 16, 2022, law enforcement officials responded to a home after receiving multiple 911 calls for a welfare check on the victim, Timisha Turner.

Calls were made after Morel and Turner were involved in a physical altercation.
First responders arrived on-scene and found Turner lying unconscious inside of the home and immediately began to render aid.
According to officials, Morel told paramedics Turner had a history of having seizures and that she had been involved in a fight with another woman earlier that evening, during which she fell and hit her head, leading to her seizure and subsequent loss of consciousness.
However, when Turner was taken to the hospital, she was found with a stab wound to the left side of her chest. She died at the hospital.
As the investigation into Turner's death progressed, law enforcement discovered that a group of friends had been at the residence with Morel and the victim that evening. The friends told police Turner and Morel were involved in a fight.
When it appeared the fight was escalating, the friends left the home. Later, one of those friends called 911 for a welfare check on Turner. Another witness, police said told them Morel approached Turner with a knife.
Law enforcement arrived on scene and saw Morel with scratched on his body. He gave police multiple versions of what occurred, but eventually told police what occurred between he and Turner.
He told the police that he pushed Turner while she was holding tweezers in her hand and that she fell into a wall plunging the tweezers into her chest.
After the medical examiner performed an autopsy on Turner, they ruled her death was consistent with being stabbed with a knife.
Superior Court Judge Deah Warren subsequently sentenced Morel to 24 years in prison.
'This tragic incident underscores the deadly consequences of domestic violence. Often times victims feel like they can't leave the situation or that it will change, but staying can cost them their lives,' Douglas County District Attorney Dalia Racine said. 'No one should live in fear of violence in their own home, and we are committed to seeking justice for these victims and ensuring that those who engage in such violent acts are held accountable.'

Manhunt underway for GA man accused of ramming truck into patrol vehicle, leaving deputy injured
A suspect wanted for assault on a deputy remains at large, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Harris remains on the run. If you see him, do not approach. Instead, call 911 immediately. Harris is facing charges of possession of a firearm/knife during the commission of a crime, fleeing/eluding a police officer, aggravated assault upon a law enforcement officer, obstruction of an officer, and theft by receiving stolen property. The 34-year-old also has outstanding warrants for his arrest from an unrelated incident. According to the GBI, the truck and trailer had been reported stolen out of Hall County before the incident. Pickleball Kingdom is bringing a location to Austell
A pickleball franchise is expanding to Cobb County. Pickleball Kingdom will open a new location at 3999 Austell Road, Suite 501, in Austell. The facility will be about 25,000 square feet and include 10 professional-grade indoor courts. It is expected to open this winter. The company announced in February that it will be launching a major expansion across Georgia, with more than 20 clubs in development. Nithi and Usha Anand are spearheading the expansion in Georgia. 'We are delighted to bring Pickleball Kingdom to Austell and contribute to the development of a thriving pickleball community in this area,' said the Anands in a statement. 'Our vision is to create a welcoming space where individuals can engage in this exciting sport, improve their fitness, and connect with others who share a passion for pickleball.' So far, in addition to the Austell location, Pickleball Kingdom is opening three other locations in Georgia: in Watkinsville at Hog Mountain Road and Macon Highway, as well as locations yet to be determined in Alpharetta and Atlanta. The opening date for the Watkinsville location hasn't been listed yet. Pickleball Kingdom has big plans. A Facebook account full of family memories was memorialized by a stranger without the family's knowledge. Now, a woman is fighting for access to her mom's account. How simple is it to convince Facebook someone is dead? 'I made a fake Facebook. I made myself the legacy contact and then I reported it to memorialize it,' Couch said. 'I found some old lady picture on Facebook, made it her profile picture, I put her picture with a ChatGPT obituary and all you have to do- you don't have to be logged into Facebook- I just went ahead through a Safari browser, report - memorialized.' Couch says she has reached out to Facebook nine times since May and has only gotten one response. 'They basically told me that there was nothing that they could do. It was irreversible and once it's done, it's done,' Couch said. 'It's cruel and Facebook has to do something about it.' News Center 7 reached out to Facebook to see if it's possible to recover Couch's mother's profile, but we have not heard back.
